1 PHONE: (972) John G. Martin March 10, April 12, 2006 John G. Martin, age 84 of Frisco, Texas passed away on April 12, 2006 in Frisco. He was born in Union Town, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1922 to Gus and Anastasia (Basillidou) Martin. John married Georgia Dagres on December 29, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia and together they had two sons. John and Georgia lived all their lives (except for the last four) in Huntington where John was the last surviving founder of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He owned Martin s Restaurant on 4th Avenue and was the former Food Services Manager of Rebels & Redcoats. John was a Marshall Alumni and served as a Captain in the US Army during WWII. John is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Martin, Frisco, Texas; sons, George J. Martin and wife Kay, Plano, Texas and Constantine Stan Martin and wife Marti, Frisco, Texas; grandchildren; John, Nick, Holly and Cara Martin; cousins, Dan J. Baker, Huntington, West Virginia and John Baker, Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Audia, Charleston, West Virginia; nieces, Stassa Phillips, Katina Cummings and Pia Cummings. His parents and sister, Catherine M. Cummings precede him in death. Family visitation will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, TX on Friday, April 14 from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Grace Community Church, 4501 Hedgecoxe Road, Plano, TX at 10:30 AM. Internment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco. He was a caring, loving man who loved his Lord; and that is where his is today. When my family joined St. George, twenty six years ago, John was one of the first to welcome us with open arms. John was such an active man; having his own restaurant, managing Rebels and Red Coats, involved with S.C.O.R.E., and A.A.R.P., and was the only remaining founder of St. George. John had such an outgoing personality; he always had a smile and a friendly word for everyone he encountered. Georgia, Gloria and I think the world of you and John. We will always remember John with fondness. He was a real inspiration. May his memory be eternal? I recall bringing my infant son (who is now 26) to visit each Christmas Eve in the 1980s, and enjoying the Greek pastries prepared by John and Georgia. My dad, who passed away in 2004, would frequently recall the many, many years that "Johnny Martin would fix my breakfast" at Martin's Restaurant. Wonderful memories indeed.
