Griff Griffitt, 89 year old Leonard resident, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the Leonard Church of Christ. Charles Wrenn and Steven Medford will officiate. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday March 15, 2010 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Griff was born January 17, 1921 at Bailey, Texas. His parents were John H. and Ruby Lavera Hudson Griffitt. He married Lucy Ann Gaulden June 1, 1946 at Celeste, Texas. He was a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army during World War II and a member of the Leonard Church of Christ where he served many years as an elder. He also was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Leonard Volunteer Fire Dept, FFA, VATAT, Athletic Club and Community Garden Club. He had a Masters of Science Degree and he worked for many years as a Vocational Agricultural Teacher for the Leonard Independent School District. He is survived by his wife: Lucy Ann Griffitt of Leonard; his son and daughter-in-law: Glenn & Louise Griffitt of Leonard; his daughter and son-in-law: Sue and Gary McDonald of Leonard; his daughter: Betty Ann Barker of Leonard; his brother and sister-in-law: James and Jo Griffitt of Salado; his 7 grandchildren: Warren Lynn McDonald of Allen, John Wilson Griffitt and Jim Blaine McDonald of Leonard, Wesley Glenn Griffitt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Zane Wesley Barker of Wylie, Jay Griffitt Barker of Leonard and Ted Allen Barker of Indian Head, Maryland; his 6 great grandchildren: Micah Nicole Griffitt and Sloane Elizabeth Griffitt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Dallas Wilson Griffitt and Austin Drake Griffitt of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Remington Wesleyn Scout Barker of Indian Head, Maryland and Avery Catherine McDonald of Allen, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: LaFayne Grffitt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to In Search of the Lord s Way P.O. ELOISE BOSS MCWATTERS, MARCH 18, 2010 I will always remember coming to visit my cousins Carnell, Jelly, Uncle John and Aunt Vera when I was a little girl. Carnell and Jelly were alwaays so sweet to me and their mom was an angel with kind words for everyone. She was one of the most caring people I have ever known. Now, Uncle John was a little different story...always trying to teach me how to be a country girl and gather eggs, milk a cow, pick cotton and lots of chores around the farm that I was not too interested in. He was always trying to make a farm gal out of me. Lots of good memories and lots of fun back in those days. Carnell was a great person and touched many lives. I was always proud to have such a wonderful and kind cousin as he was. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. God bless him and what a sweet reunion in Heaven that will be. I can never think of my high school years without thinking of him. What a fun loving

3 and patient man he was to have driven bus loads of LHS graduates on their senior trips to Colorado. He told me in later years that our class of '56 was a handful!! Griff, watch over those of us who have gone before and we'll all be together again one day. What a day that will be!! With much love and appreciation, Sandra Carter Mintz SANDRA CARTER MINTZ, MARCH 16, 2010 We were the children of the Vietnam War, and we rarely left the Salerno Beachhead during Griff's class from '70 to '74. He "advised" us "AG-Boys" during his final months. I learned that if I did not visit, he would call me, and what an honor it was for the phone to ring, and it was Griff. He even wrote a "plan" for me and my cow/hay operation. Visited him at Kosper twice. I awakened him the first time and we had a wonderful visit. Second time, he was in wheel chair in hall. Very alert, another wonderful visit. One of the greatest "role models" I have ever known. We can only hope that men and women today will answer the call to devote their lives to their country, state, community, church, family, and most of all, students. This man loved what he did and cared about his students. It always meant so much to me that Griff never forgot his students. Patsy Moss & I were his office aides in and he could always remember that! Mrs. Griffitt, thanks for sharing him with all of us, his former students. He was one-of-a-kind, while an educator and since then. He will always have a special place in my heart, as well as in the hearts of all his former students. We love you and will miss Griff so much. He was a very good friend. He was my number one fan besides my parents as a basketball player at Leonard High School. He always boosted my spirits and encouraged me. I never had a middle name or a nickname until Griff gave me one. He always called me "Hook-Um". That was my favorite basketball shot. I loved Griff. I want all of you to know that you are all in my prayers, but Griff is back to his old self now and in a much better place. He will be missed. So sorry I cannot be there for his service.
