3 Miranda Nikkel grew up attending Sully CRC and was encouraged by her parents, Mike and Val Nikkel, from a young age to get involved and find ways she could use her abilities to serve God and his people. Through this involvement, she was encouraged and shown love by so many people who helped her grow as a follower of Christ and member of the church family. It was because of those people, her family and many experiences of serving the body of Christ and witnessing God s work in the world that she felt called to pursue a degree in Church and Ministry Leadership. Miranda graduated from Trinity Christian College in December of 2018 with a degree in Church and Ministry Leadership with a Missional emphasis and minors in Theology and Sociology. After graduation, she moved back home and soon after began this position as Worship Coordinator. Miranda enjoys spending time with her family and friends, making art, discovering new music, drinking coffee and reading a good book. 3

Above all, we are thankful to God for giving us 60 years together. Bob and Pearl In February, we constantly hear messages about love. Love can be shown in many ways, including gift giving. We want to thank Sully Christian Reformed Church for your generous act of love by investing in the Luke Society. Your offering is supporting the vital work of spreading the love of Jesus Christ to the world through the means of holistic health. The Spring Church Potluck Dinner will be April 7. Visitors are welcome there will be plenty of food. After our morning worship service, there will be no Sunday School or coffee and cookies. Our second service will be held at the school following the dinner. Each family is asked to bring two large dishes (one hot and one cold) along with serving utensils. Singles do not need to bring a dish. Table service, drinks and dinner rolls will be provided. To eliminate congestion by the serving lines, please place your food on the table and move out to visit. 5 IN MEMORY Remembering Earl Fopma On December 29, 1933, Peter and Klazina (Meppelink) Fopma welcomed their first child, Charles Earl into their home. Earl was baptized in the Sully CRC where he made his profession of faith as a young man. He attended the Richland Country School through the eighth grade. He worked for his dad on the farm until he answered his call into the U.S. army in 1955, and he served in Fort Riley, Kansas and Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Following service, he returned home to Iowa. One evening he and a good friend decided it was time to check out the young ladies in Newton. There he discovered the girl of his dreams, Alene Sjaardema. They were married at the Newton CRC on May 20,1958. During years before and after service, Earl worked on the farm with his dad and also developed carpenter skills. Soon after marriage, Earl left carpentry, and they moved to a farm near Monroe. Eventually they settled North of Sully on a farm near his boyhood home. Earl was a particular farmer; his fences were mended, and his corn rows were strait. During these years four children were born into their home. They farmed from 1959 to 1989, and then Earl began work at Vermeer in Pella. There he helped produce the net wrap for round bales. He retired in Earl and Alene loved doing things together. Alene would get travel suggestions and plan trips, and they would visit many places in the U.S. One trip they really enjoyed was a European Heart of Europe tour that took them to Holland, Germany and five other countries. They spent many winter seasons in Florida with Alene s sister and her husband. I truly miss Earl sitting behind me in church. His beautiful voice helped all of us sing better. He loved singing in the church choir and the Gospel Singers Male Chorus. He enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years. The Ruth Circle could count on him to come with his magnetic wand and pick up the pins we dropped on quilting day. His grandchildren told me they would never forget Grandpa s big smile and hardy handshake when they stopped by for a visit. They truly knew where Grandpa stood in his relationship with his Savior. On January 1,2019, Earl stepped through the Gates of Heaven. What a way to start a New Year, though time is irrelevant in glory!!! He had recently celebrated his 85th birthday. He is deeply missed by his wife Alene, his children Curtis and Brenda (Sage), Keith and Pam (Rieder), Dale and Cindy (Terpstra), and Scott and Diane Roose, along with grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerald whose death in a sledding accident deeply affected him, his parents-in-law and a brother-inlaw Kenneth Maasdam. Funeral services for Earl were held at the Sully CRC on January 4, Pastor Brian Ochsner officiated along with Dale Fopma participating. Lyn Howerzyl accompanied the congregation as they sang When Peace Like a River and When We See Christ. Granddaughter Jenna Roose and her fiancee Treye Schupbach honored Grandpa as they sang Ten Thousand Reasons. Casket bearers were Sons, Grandsons with honorary bearers Granddaughters, and Robert and Carroll Fopma. Committal was at the Sully Cemetery with Post No 89 of Pella, Iowa, providing military honors. Memorials were designated for the Sully Christian School. Blessed are they who die in the Lord. 5

6 FINANCIAL INFORMATION Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much...luke 16:10a For the benefit of guests and in an effort to avoid passing offering plates more than once a service, the deacons have decided to collect seminary offerings as the main offering twice a year instead of as a second offering. Seminary envelopes will still be available for use for those who want to designate, and any undesignated offerings will be split between Calvin and Mid- America as in the past. 12 LOVE ONE ANOTHER We were speeding along in the car pool lane when I noticed a motorcycle coming up behind us. I moved a little over to the left to allow him to pass more comfortably. As he passed he raised the three fingers on his left hand, as he held on to the handle bars. It was a signal of appreciation. It was love! That small gesture lifted my spirits for the next half hour or more. He might have been an ex-convict, or a bum of some kind. He might have been a godless atheist. Nevertheless, he has the love of God inside him and he sprinkled a little of that love on us as he passed. That is how easy it is to be an instrument of the Lord Jesus.. 12
