1 PELLA CHRISTIAN GRADE SCHOOL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING THURSDAY, MAY 31, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. in the MUSIC ROOM The Annual Society meeting will be held Thursday, May 31 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the music room. The purpose of this meeting is to share information about the school year, to approve the budget and to elect new board members. The listing of the board member nominees is attached to this packet. An absentee ballot can be found below. Part of this year s agenda is to approve the following amendments to the Constitution (The Constitution in its entirety can be found on the school website under the About heading or in the school office.) A. Approve the following amendments to the Constitution Current: Policy The Board of Trustees consists of twelve to fifteen members elected by qualified voters of the Society. Proposed: The Board of Trustees consists of nine to thirteen members elected by qualified voters of the Society. Rationale: Thirteen members on a board is large. and Pella Christian High School are depleting our pool of resources for board member replacements. Current Members of the Board are elected at the annual business meeting of the Society to serve a term of three years. The terms commence July 1 of each year and end after the August business is completed. Board members may not serve two consecutive terms if the Society elects her/him at the annual meeting following the usual procedure for election of a board member. Proposed Members of the Board are elected at the annual business meeting of the Society to serve a term of three years. Board members who desire to serve a second consecutive three-year term may, with Board approval, allow their name to be placed in nomination, along with that of a second nominee, for that vacant seat. The number of retiring board members choosing this option is limited to two per year. In the event that more than two board members wish to be re-nominated, the Board will determine which two names shall stand for nomination. No one shall be elected for more than two terms in succession. Rationale: We have a depleting pool of resources to serve on the board and to allow the flexibility for a current board member to continue for another term if they are gifted and passionate about serving Pella Christian Grade School. Current 201.4: In case of a vacancy on the board of trustees, the board of trustees shall fill such vacancy by appointment from among the members of the society, to serve until the next annual meeting of the society, at which time the society shall fill the vacancy by election in the regular way. Once the vacancy is filled, the constituency will be notified. Rationale: A person who has been appointed and has been actively serving, it is in the best interest of the school for him/her to continue until the end of the prior board members term. B. Approve Re-Articles of Incorporation (the complete Re-Articles of Incorporation is available in the school office) this is to be done every 50 years.!!

2 Name: Scott Huisman Spouse s Name: Lea Calvary CRC Children: Emma- 5 th grade, Jaedon 2 nd grade, Chloe OTGO and Mya 2 years old Education: Central College B.A. in Accounting Occupation: Kum & Go Interests, hobbies, etc.: Sports, playing golf and landscaping I believe the Bible is the only word of God. That God sent his son to die for our sins so we could have the chance at eternal life. No only committed to send my kids, but also want to show commitment through participation on the board in future years. Assisting in the planning and decisions to continue to make an excellent school for years to come. Name: Eric Vande Zande Spouse s Name: Angela Children: Bridget 1 st grade, Gerrit One To Grow On, Jenna 4 years old, Wayne 2 years old and Ryer a few weeks old Education: B.A. in Biology from Dordt College Occupation: Natural Resources Specialist for U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Interests, hobbies, etc.: Archery, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, kayaking, reading I am a professing member of a Christian Reformed Church. Jesus Christ is my personal savior, the author, perfector of my faith. I trust that the Holy Spirit guides my words and actions according to God s Plan. My wife and I have committed to put our four (soon to be five) children through Christian school based on our own experiences in Christian schooling. This financially is often a lead of faith. We trust that the Lord will provide for our children as they grow. I am not entirely familiar with all functions of the school board, however, I will cheerfully serve in whatever capacity I can. I hope that my background in education may be helpful (exp. Science).

Providing service to further God s work at using group and/or individual talents. Name: Marcy Stravers Spouse s Name: Greg Children: Justin -10 th grade, Colin 7 th grade and Ian 3 rd grade Education: Associate of Arts Dordt College Occupation: part time administrative assistant at local accounting firm Interests, hobbies, etc.: the arts, staying fit, watching sons activities I live my life in complete humility and gratitude for the sacrifice my Savior, Jesus Christ, has made for me. I live every day trying to understand the love he has for me and showing it to the world around me. My husband and I feel blessed to have this avenue for instilling in our children that Christ is Lord over our whole lives. has been a tremendous asset in helping us raise our children to live for the Lord. I am willing to be a part of this group that works hard to guide the school and discern what God s plan is for it.

4 Grace Fellowship/Faith Christian Reformed Church Name: Tim De Nooy Spouse s Name: Becky Children: Jessa kindergartner and Parker 2 years old Education: Dordt College for a year Occupation: Sully Farm Supply Interests, hobbies, etc.: Photography, carpentry, design and cars I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Savior. I strive to do everything to bring glory and honor to His name. I grew up in a family that struggled but never waived in sending their kids to Christian Schools. Christian education was the main reason for our family moving back to Pella. As a first time board member, I would observe and find ways to best use my talents and abilities for the tasks at hand. Name: Dale Van Arendonk Spouse s Name: Faith Children: Kelly (Nikkel) and Kyle both graduates of PCGS and 2 grandchildren currently attending PCGS Education: B.A. Dordt College Occupation: Medalist Manufacturing, Inc Interests, hobbies, etc.: Walking, reading and being a grandparent I believe that Jesus Christ is my personal savior who has saved me from my sins that I may have eternal life. In response and gratitude, I attempt to live my life in service to Him in everything I do. Along with home and school, Christian education provides a great opportunity for parents to fulfill the promise they make a baptism to do everything in their power to instruct their children in the faith. Now more than ever we need to equip the next generation with a worldview that sees all of life through the eyes of God s word. Along with the other board members, I would work to provide policy direction and leadership for helping the school to accomplish its mission.

5 Second CRC Name: Brent Geetings Spouse s Name: Melissa Children: Kenyon 4 th grade, Drew 2nd grade, Dane Kindergarten, Kade 2 years old and Dara - 4 months Education: Indian Hills Community College Associate of Applied Science degree Occupation: Manufacturing engineer Plant 3 - Vermeer Interests, hobbies, etc.: rebuilding Chevy trucks, spending time with family, sprint car races, St. Louis Cardinals games, fishing, bike riding, golf, bowling, and attending kids activities I believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Although I am a sinner, I believe in God s Word from Ephesians 2:8-9, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. I am fully committed to Christian education for my family and agree with the mission statement of PCGS to challenge students to develop individual God-given gifts for a life of service in God s kingdom. I believe in the promise found in Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it. A member of the board acts as a voice for the parents and works together with the principal, faculty, and other advisors to guide the school by making Christ-centered decisions. Name: Stuart Bokhoven Spouse s Name: Amy Children: Grace 6 th grade and Matthew 4 th grade Education: Dordt College- Business degree Occupation: Tony s Auto Parts Interests, hobbies, etc.: Fishing, gardening, and playing with my kids I feel my faith is strong. I think this is reflected both at work and at home. I feel that Christian education is important but not mandatory. I will do my best to balance the needs of, the teachers, parents and students.

6 Third Reformed Name: Doug Kanis Spouse s Name: Jessemynn Children: Zeb Kindergarten and Kenzie- 4 years old Education: Calvin College, Des Moines University and University of Iowa Occupation: Pella Regional Health Center - Internal Medicine Physician Interests, hobbies, etc.: Running, yard work and technology I believe in Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. I believe in trying to live a life of grace, mercy, forgiveness and humility as exemplified by Jesus. I believe that Christian Education is an excellent adjunct to biblical teaching and training in the home. I support Christian education that constructs a base of knowledge and integrity, but furthermore prepares students to live and discern in a society with a different worldview. Similar to my experience serving on other boards and committees; such that I listen, analyze information and recommendations and respond. Furthermore, I would hope to be active in a committee, such as technology, that I am passionate about, so that I could research information and evaluate solutions for PCGS. Name: Jon Heinen Spouse s Name: Tricia Children: Maclane 4 rd grade; Morgan 3 nd grade; Maggie 5 years old; Maddux 2 year old Education: Grand View College with majors of social science and business Occupation: Vermeer, Segment Business Unit Manager Interests, hobbies, etc.: Many hobbies have been put on hold during this time in my life partially due to work obligations but mostly to focus on our children. I have been very involved with any youth sport our children are involved in, even sports I know nothing about. It is an adventure dealing with the leading of children in a sports setting but it is one of the most enjoyable hobbies. I appreciate Third Churches focus on one of the core competencies of being a Christian. I grew up in the church but did not fully grasp that we are all called to spread the word, not a task solely reserved to missionaries in third world countries. I have traveled extensively during my professional career and believe part of the reason God has placed that in my life is to not only represent my employer, but also represent Him to the multitude of people I interact with. Being a follower truly stretches beyond our home, school, church and town. My personal faith commitment is being a servanthearted disciple for Jesus where ever I am in the world. Thankfully, both my wife and I together are fully committed to Christian education. I grew up in a home where both parents received a Christian education, and my Grandfather dedicated his entire life to Christian education as an educator and Pricipal. I recently spoke with some of my peers from all over the country about the status of education in their cities over a dinner I attended. The discussion that followed shocked me, I can t imagine sending my kids into the environments that were described to me. It is very clear we are blessed to have the gift of Pella Christian School system! I believe board members need to immerse themselves into the fiber of the current state of the school and then work to provide leadership and direction to keep the school a viable institution for generations. There will be times of great celebration but I also recognize as a leader in the professional sector that there will be also be times of significant stress. We will be presented with great challenges and how we react to the challenges will define the identify of the school moving forward. So to me a board is in place to look to the future, provide honest evaluations, leverage experiences, and then move by Faith.
