Scripture: Revelation 2:18-29 Message: "7 Churches-Looking in the Mirror: Thyatira " Facing Down the Fear of Failure Matthew 14:22-33; 2 Timothy 1:6-7 Pastor Duane Laman 9:30 a.m. August 5, THE FEAR THAT IS PERHAPS DREADED MOST IS THE FEAR OF FAILURE. But, why is it so bad to be afraid of failing that we don't try anymore? (A) We become stagnant in our lifestyles. (B) Our faith stops growing (C) We will never succeed in doing anything worth our having been called into the Kingdom of God. (D) It plays right into the hands of Satan. 2. THE BIBLE CHALLENGES US TO STEP OUT IN FAITH. (A) Paul tells Timothy that God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, or love and of self discipline. (B) David tells Solomon to be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord is with you. (C) Jesus tells Peter to come to him on the water, and I believe Jesus would have been very pleased if all the disciples had said: "Can we come too, Lord?" 3. PETER'S FAILURES TAUGHT AT LEAST 3 LESSONS. (A) God's reliable presence (B) His own frailty. (C) A greater understanding of God's resources. 4. WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET PAST OUR FEAR OF FAILURE? (A) Remind ourselves that we live for an audience of one and that God loves us unconditionally whether we succeed or fail. (B) Remind ourselves that there is no greater failure than refusing to do what the Lord is stirring our hearts to do. (C) Thought to remember: We play only to an audience of one, and our failures are not a problem to God, but a chance to help us grow in faith, which is what God most wants from His people.
3 STARS Afterschool Each week we will spend 30 minutes on a Bible lesson, 10 minutes on memorizing Bible verses, and 40 minutes on skill badge work. The Bible lessons will cover the highlights of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation using The Jesus Storybook by Sally Lloyd-Jones. The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God s great story of salvation and at the center of their Story too. Skill badge work includes hands on activities as we use the gifts God has given us; furthermore, we will learn about God s handiwork from people in the community as they explain their careers. In addition, four family meals give the children the opportunity to share what they have learned are scheduled for October 3, November 14, February 6, and March 13. WHO: Kindergarteners Fifth graders WHEN: Wednesdays: September 5 November 14 and January 9 March 13 from 3:30 5:30 p.m. The children are walked by adult volunteers from Lynnville-Sully Schools to the church. There is NO COST to be in this program. Sign up Today! Contact Julie Van Manen, Children s Ministry Director at ext. 5 or julievmfrcsully@gmail.com.
