3 Greetings from the East Congratulations to Brother Timothy Ferdon on being passed to the degree of Fellow Craft. The degree team did excellent work that evening. I did enjoy my view from the sidelines, but also missed being part of the action. I m so proud of our degree team brothers! Hopefully, they'll let me sit in the East for a degree sometime this year?!? February will prove to be another eventful month for Venice Lodge. The Grand Master of Florida has declared the month of February to be American Citizen Month. The intent is that the lodges emphasize their loyalty and continued support of our American institutions and our democratic way of life. I will share his proclamation with you at our Stated Communication on 2/4. On Sunday, February 17 th, at 3 pm, DeMolay will be hosting their installation at our Lodge. I encourage you to attend and support our future Masonic brothers. We are fortunate to have a DeMolay chapter in our area. I will provide you with more details as they materialize. I anticipate that we will be presented with proficiencies this month from some of our brothers who are advancing in Masonry. W:. Kelly and Br. Corkran are working tirelessly to help with catechism instruction and the brothers are excitedly embracing the precepts of our fraternity. I also anticipate that we will be initiating a new brother on 2/25 at 7 pm. Please make sure to come out and support our candidate. I would like to take the opportunity to honor our ladies with a belated Valentine s Day dinner on 2/18. I have asked Chef Deb to prepare something special for the important ladies in our lives. Please invite your spouse, mother, neighbor, or a widow to this special dinner. Ladies will eat FREE!!! Remember, to save your Masonic pennies; as 10 will get you a free dinner too. Fraternally, W:. 4 Greetings from the West Greetings brothers, another month gone, it seems like 2019 is off to a quick start. Congratulations to our new Fellow Crafts who were passed on 14 Jan 19. In keeping with this trend there is an Entered Apprentice degree scheduled for 25 Feb 19. There is still time for any brother who would like to be involved in the degree to receive a part in the degree. Remember you do not have to be a Master Mason to do degree work. Any Fellow Craft can have a part in the Fellow Craft and Entered Apprentice Degrees, so come out and get involved. The Lodge trip to the Arcadia Rodeo in March is sold out. If any brother would still like to attend please contact brother Walt Milne, he may be able to get more tickets. The Master Mason Association Meeting will be held at Manatee Lodge #31, on 28 Feb 19, at 6:45 p.m. All Master Masons are invited and encouraged to attend. Come out and see what the others lodges are doing. Fun and fellowship for all. Just a heads up, the Annual Chili Cook-off to offset the Grand Master s Visit will be held at the Sarasota Shrine in March Date to be determined later by the Master Mason Association Committee. Any brother who would like to enter their chili please contact one of our lodge officers. This is a fun event and all are welcome to attend. Come out and support your lodge and have fun fellowship and of course chili. The 2019 Annual Sporting Clays for Vets Fun Shoot will be held on 9 March 2019 at the Sarasota Trap Skeet and Clays. All proceeds from this event will go toward providing a track chair for a local disabled veteran. The event cost is $ and covers ammo, clays, golf cart and lunch. Flyers will be available in the lodge. Point of Contact is Denis Doome, claysforvets@gmail.com. Just so everyone knows, the Traveling Gavel is currently residing at Liberty Lodge #421. It would look really nice in Venice #301. Masonic Quote of the Month: Masonic ideas are the precious jewels of Speculative Masons; they should be kept bright and sparkling for all the brethren to see and to admire. As such, they should be the special care of Masonic leaders particularly those who teach and interpret the philosophy of Freemasonry. 5 Greetings from the South I want to thank everyone who came out to our first degree of the year on January 14 th where I could preside in the East to confer the FC degree for our Brother Timothy Ferndon. Congratulations to the entire degree team for a great evening. Please mark your calendars for February 25 th for the next EA degree Our new EA s and FC s have a lot of work ahead of them and we should all take time to thank and show our appreciation to our catechism instructors who are doing triple duty. Steve Corkran for all their commitment and service to the craft Join us at our next stated meeting Feb 4 th for fellowship and Masonic Education. I will have a appetizer and snack prepared. Our dinner meeting this month is February 18 th and is being prepared especially for the Ladies. Dinner includes Chicken Cordon Bleu with Dijon Cream Sauce, Roast - ed asparagus, Herbed Mashed Potatoes, Dinner Roll & Strawberry Cheesecake It is very important you make reservations each month so chef Deb can have enough meals prepared for everyone. Also make plans for another fun food event at the Venice Shrine Club s 2 nd Spaghetti Dinner on February 17 th from 3-6pm at the clubhouse located at 91 S. Auburn Rd., Venice. 7 Masonic Education CARDINAL VIRTUES by William R. Fischer If you had three wishes what would you wish for? Most people would wish to; 1. Live forever. 2. Win the lottery. 3. Have peace on earth. Living forever, although it seems immortal, is one of the most mortal parts of mankind abilities. We all live forever, for as long as you live that is forever. When your body expires your spirit lives on and people who know you will remember you, and that remembrance will keep you living forever. Winning the lottery is much more difficult. First you have to play to win and then be one out of twenty million. But, all of this does not matter because we have enough for ourselves and our families. We have enough to live on, and to survive, we may not have it as easy as others but we have enough. Peace on earth is a matter of cooperation and understanding. The more we understand each other the less difficult it will be to cooperate and achieve peace. We can be sure that some have other wants or needs, noble and selfish, but what about an alternative. How about ABILITY, STRENGTH, and WISDOM. With ability TEMPERANCE would be easy. If you have the ability to accomplish what you wish, temperance would be the first accomplishment. To be able to control ones desires is the goal of every good man. This would make it easy for you to help others through your example and your knowledge. With strength FORTITUDE is a part. To be strong of character you must have fortitude. Fortitude is the driving force in strength of character. This would give you the skill to deal with those who would subvert the good you are trying to do. With wisdom PRUDENCE would be found and JUSTICE could be served. Prudence is a part of wisdom. To be wise is to be prudent. Justice is known to a wise person. Thus, to be wise is to have the know-how to administer justice. Having the knowledge to use prudence and dispense justice can only come from wisdom. Thus, we would be able to tell who is in need and who is causing the pain of need. So if given three wishes, maybe we should wish for: The ability to help those in need. The strength to forgive those who cause pain. The wisdom to know the difference. If we all did this we would still live forever, we would all be richer and peace on earth would last for an eternity.
