3 G r e e t i n g s f r o m t h e E a s t With a sad heart we say goodbye to Past Master Curtis G. Bradley who was Worshipful Master of Venice Lodge No. 301 in Masonic services were held at St Mark's Church on Saturday April 28 th. Thanks to all who attended the funeral services. The Chili Challenge was held on April 28 th at Sahib Shrine from noon until 2:00 pm. Kudos to Brother Reid Pettit for cooking an awesome chili as we were competing against other lodges in the district. This was a fund raiser to offset the cost of the Grand Master of Florida's visit. The Chilis were tasted by numerous attendees then they voted for the chili, which in their opinion was the best. Venice Lodge took second place. Congrats to Br. Reid! Starting this month, Pennies for Participation will be distributed a penny earned if two or more brothers are doing one hour of Lodge / Masonic work. They each will receive one penny. Longer time, doing lodge work, more pennies will be earned. For instance, over 2 hours worked, two pennies will be earned etc. If you do lodge work just keep a record, then when you see any of the three elected officers advise them and we will all have pennies to distribute. We had the pleasure of recognizing some Venice area outstanding citizens. Teacher Nikki Warfield received a certificate from the Grand Lodge as the recipient of Adopt a Teacher. Master Police Officer Paul Joyce was honored as the Venice Police Officer of the Year for Officer Joyce, Lady Joyce along with Venice Police Chief Tom Matmuller were our guests for dinner. The lodge presented Officer Joyce with a certificate from the Grand Master. Congratulations to our recently raised Brother Master Masons Randall Aitken, Steve Corkran, Matt Palmer and Herman Cadena. May you be blessed in all your future years in the Fraternity. W:. Mark Baltimore received his perpetual membership There will be an all hands lodge cleanup day on Saturday May 19 th from 9 am - 1:00 pm. Your officers will be attending the Grand Lodge of Florida's Grand Communication starting on May 28th until May 30th. The business card placemats are growing slow but sure as is the remembrance bricks. Put these dates on your calendar June 4 th EA Degree 7 pm and a Fellowcraft Degree on June 11 th at 7 pm. Our luncheon venue has changed from Darrells BBQ to The Salty Dog which is located on the Island just West of the Lodge. The May 21 st Dinner & Stated Communication will be a Veteran Recognition Night. Veterans are encouraged to wear their Uniforms with medals/ribbons or, if you re like me and can t squeeze into that 50 year old apparel, wear your medals/ribbons on a Sports Jacket or a Tux. The 23 rd Masonic District Picnic has been scheduled for June 16 th 10 am until 2 pm, Location to follow. We will be going Dark in June, consequently NO MEETING ON THE FIRST MONDAY for June, July, August and September. Fraternally, W:. M:. Gene Scheuring 3
4 G r e e t i n g s f r o m t h e We s t As the season winds down the roads become clearer and it becomes easier to get into restaurants in Venice. However, many of our brothers and families find their way back up North for cooler temperatures and less humidity. I want to wish you all safe travels and I want to remind you to check your for the monthly Trestle Board to stay apprised of what s happening at your lodge. Congratulations to Brothers Randall Aitken, Herman Cadena, Steve Corkran, and Matthew Palmer on being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. You have worked hard during your journey to further light. Now that you have attained it, we look forward to welcoming you to our meetings. We hope to present you with your badge in the very near future! Thank you to our voting brothers for giving me the time (and your patience) as I presented the legislation that will be voted upon at Grand Communication at the end of this month. You asked good questions and provided insightful feedback. Your delegates will represent you well. The month of May will prove to be busy this year with two stated communications, a family dinner, degree practices, a lodge clean-up day (5/19; 9am-1pm), and Grand Communication. Please continue to check your as we may have additional updates as well. I leave you with this thought, the only way to multiply happiness is to divide it. I m looking forward to spreading the joy of happiness with you all. Have an enlightened month! Hoping for a green flash at sun down, Adam S. Kendall, Senior Warden 4
5 G r e e t i n g s f r o m t h e S o u t h April is gone and just like the ducks our northern brothers have migrated, leaving us alone in paradise. Summer is almost upon us and that means sun, fun, and masonic beach cleanup. We raised four new Master Masons last month and are setting our sights on holding Fellow Craft and Entered Apprentice degrees soon. Just a reminder, degree work is not just for lodge officers. Any mason can be part of the degree team as long as they are of equivalent level or higher than the degree being held. All brothers are welcome and encouraged to get involved so please see one of our lodge officers to join the fun. Just a reminder, there is an informal luncheon on Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m. it s just a time for the brothers to get together share fellowship, talk and solve all the problems of the world (at least in our little part of it). All brothers welcome. This month we will be meeting at the Old Salty Dog restaurant on the island. Hope to see you there. The next Master Mason Association Meeting will be on 24 May 18, at 6:45 p.m. at Punta Gorda #115 with the school of instruction to follow at 7:30 p.m. All brothers are welcome to attend. It s a great place to keep up with what is happening in the district and the school of instruction is always good. Open Books is held the 4 th Saturday of the month at Sarasota #147, 9:00 a.m to Noon. All you need is a dues card and a desire to learn. If you ever wondered about a word or anything in our degrees this is the place to find out. No cipher, no code, no confusion, everything is written out in plain English. And sometimes they have donuts. Come out, have a good time and learn. Just a reminder our lodge cleanup day will be 19 May 18, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. lunch will be provided. Come out and share the fellowship, clean the lodge and get a hot dog or whatever we have. It will be good. Masonic Quote of the Month: Masonry is too great an institution to have been made in a day, much less by a few men, but was a slow evolution through long time, unfolding its beauty as it grew. Indeed, it was like one of its own cathedrals which one generation of builders wrought and vanished, and another followed, until amidst vicissitudes of time and change of decline and revival the order itself became a temple of Freedom and Fraternity. Brother Joseph Fort Newton. Friendship Lodge #7, Dixon, Illinois. Grand Chaplain, Grand Lodge of Illinois: Author of The Builders (1914) and the Men s House (1923). Fraternally, John Brandon, Junior Warden Family Dinner Menu To be Determined Brethren & Ladies: It is very important that everyone planning on attending our family dinners make reservations. Please let Chef Deb or myself know so we can ensure sufficient meals will be available for all who attend. JW John Brandon jrb.brandon@gmail.com 5

7 Masonic Education Cardinal Virtues If you had three wishes what would you wish for? Most people would wish to; Live forever? Win the lottery? Have peace on earth? Living forever, although it seems immortal, is one of the most mortal parts of mankind abilities. We all live forever, for as long as you live that is forever. When your body expires your spirit lives on and people who know you will remember you, and that remembrance will keep you living forever. Winning the lottery is much more difficult. First you have to play to win and then be one out of twenty million. But, all of this does not matter because we have enough for ourselves and our families. We have enough to live on, and to survive, we may not have it as easy as others but we have enough. Peace on earth is a matter of cooperation and understanding. The more we understand each other the less difficult it will be to cooperate and achieve peace. We can be sure that some have other wants or needs, noble and selfish, but what about an alternative? How about ABILITY, STRENGTH, and WISDOM? With ability TEMPERANCE would be easy. If you have the ability to accomplish what you wish, temperance would be the first accomplishment. To be able to control ones desires is the goal of every good man. This would make it easy for you to help others through your example and your knowledge. With strength FORTITUDE is a part. To be strong of character you must have fortitude. Fortitude is the driving force in strength of character. This would give you the skill to deal with those who would subvert the good you are trying to do. With wisdom PRUDENCE would be found and JUSTICE could be served. Prudence is a part of wisdom. To be wise is to be prudent. Justice is known to a wise person. Thus, to be wise is to have the know-how to administer justice. Having the knowledge to use prudence and dispense justice can only come from wisdom. Thus, we would be able to tell who is in need and who is causing the pain of need. So if given three wishes, maybe we should wish for: The ability to help those in need. The strength to forgive those who cause pain. The wisdom to know the difference. If we all did this we would still live forever, we would all be richer and peace on earth would last for an eternity. Venice Masonic Lodge No. 301 Like us on Facebook! Monitored by W..
