3 FROM THE EAST Brethren, Congratulations to our three new Fellowcraft Masons; Matthew Kudriaszow, Matthew Brandow and Gabriel Wasserman. Our Junior Warden, Brother Adam Kendall was in the East for this Degree and he and his team did an outstanding job. R:.W:. Barry D. Hart did another outstanding job presenting the Lecture as did our Senior Deacon, Brother John Brandon who did the Charge. We had another Called Communication on Monday June 26 th to conduct an Entered Apprentice Degree for Alan Schudel, Herman Cadena and Stephen Corkran. Our Senior Deacon, Brother John Brandon was in the East for this degree. Prior to this Degree, our three new Fellowcraft Masons gave back their catechisms at 6:30 pm. Thank you again to all of our Brothers who are working so hard to raise new Masons!! W:. Derek Lynn s offshore fishing trip scheduled for Saturday May 20 th was postponed due to bad weather. The trip has been rescheduled for Saturday July 15 th. Meet at the Crow s Nest at 7:00 am and bring your own drinks and snacks. Long sleeve shirts and plenty of sunscreen is advisable. Although we are semi-dark at the Lodge from June through September, we have a full schedule of Degree practices, Degrees and various projects we are working on. Among those projects are: replacing the fans and installing LED lights in the Lodge room; painting the ceiling and walls in the Lodge room; having a beach clean-up morning at Venice Beach and having a Lodge clean -up day. Prior to our meeting on July 17 th, we will have a brief talk on home, auto and personal safety and computer ID theft by the Crime Prevention Task Force of Tampa. On July 29 th, District 23 will have a Pulled Pork Challenge at Sahib Shrine in Sarasota from Noon to 2:00 pm. Proceeds will be used to support the Grand Master s Dinner and his Lady s project. Tuesday, July 4 th is Independence Day. I wish everyone a wonderful and safe Holiday. Let us take some time to reflect on what a great country we live in and how fortunate we are to live here. Thank you to the men and women in the Military, Law Enforcement, First Responders and their families!! As you know, your principal Officers attended Grand Lodge Communication in Orlando from May We reviewed the results from that meeting at our Stated Communication on June 19 th. Two resolutions were withdrawn: To increase membership retention by allowing EA and FC participation in conferring degrees and a revised, digital version of the adopted work. Two failed: Resolution for Masonic Center Association and Resolution to amend Regulation Our next Stated Communication will be held at the Lodge on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 7:30 pm. We will have our regular family dinner at 6:00 pm; prior to the meeting. On July 27 th, the Master Mason Association Meeting will be held at Venice Lodge at 6:45 pm. We continue to have great attendance at our dinners and meetings. I am so proud of our Brothers and their Ladies/Families for all of the great fellowship and attendance we have in our Lodge. Thank you! Fraternally, Scott D. Steelman Worshipful Master 3

5 FROM THE SOUTH Greetings My Brothers, Happy Independence Day! July 4 is the date that we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and mark America s birth as a nation. Freemasons were influential in this event as five of those chosen to draft the document were Freemasons as well as the majority of the signers. I hope that you enjoy this special day and have the ability to celebrate the occasion with loved ones. th I spent the last three months focusing our charitable contributions toward organizations that focus on the natural/aesthetic qualities that make our community a desirable place to live. I intend on spending the next three months exploring entities that address some of the difficulties that we don t always want to talk about; topics that we often overlook that can and do exist in our community. The charity of the month for July is: More Too Life. Their mission is Advancing victims of all forms of sexual violence & human trafficking while implementing youth crime and demand prevention methods to change the way America and pop culture views exploitation and end it. I was shocked to discover that human trafficking exists in our area and is quite prevalent. More Too Life assists over 1,200 high-risk youth and teens and 100 adults each year through a variety of programs tailored to assist their needs and aid in their recovery. Check out their website: to see how you can get involved. One of the joys of being the Junior Warden is getting to prepare the summer meal. Per request of the brethren, we will be doing a German-style feast and don t worry I won t be doing the cooking! I ll be assisting my wife, Judith, with the preparation. Since this is the first time that I ll be doing this (and maybe the last, ha ha) please let me know if you will be attending at jowbodhi@gmail.com so that we can adequately prepare. The future s so bright I gotta wear shades, Adam S. Kendall, Junior Warden Family Dinner Menu Bavarian Schnitzel Spätzle, Green Beans, Sliced Baguette Bread Pie, Coffee, Iced Tea & Water Brethren & Ladies: It is very important that everyone planning on attending our family dinners make reservations. Please respond to our Junior Warden so he can ensure sufficient meals will be available for all who attend. Thank You. Charity of The Month More Too Life 5

7 Masonic Education What does Masonry teach? Masonry teaches some important principles. There's nothing very surprising in the list. Masonry teaches that: Since God is the Creator, all men and women are the children of God. Because of that, all men and women are brothers and sisters, entitled to dignity, respect for their opinions, and consideration of their feelings. Each person must take responsibility for his/her own life and actions. Neither wealth nor poverty, education nor ignorance, health nor sickness excuses any person from doing the best he or she can do or being the best person possible under the circumstances. No one has the right to tell another person what he or she must think or believe. Each man and woman has an absolute right to intellectual, spiritual, economic, and political freedom. This is a right given by God, not by man. All tyranny, in every form, is illegitimate. Each person must learn and practice self-control. Each person must make sure his spiritual nature triumphs over his animal nature. Another way to say the same thing is that even when we are tempted to anger, we must not be violent. Even when we are tempted to selfishness, we must be charitable. Even when we want to "write someone off," we must remember that he or she is a human and entitled to our respect. Even when we want to give up, we must go on. Even when we are hated, we must return love, or, at a minimum, we must not hate back. It isn't easy! Faith must be in the center of our lives. We find that faith in our houses of worship, not in Freemasonry, but Masonry constantly teaches that a person's faith, whatever it may be, is central to a good life. Each person has a responsibly to be a good citizen, obeying the law. That doesn't mean we can't try to change things, but change must take place in legal ways. It is important to work to make this world better for all who live in it. Masonry teaches the importance of doing good, not because it assures a person's entrance into heaven -- that's a question for a religion, not a fraternity -- but because we have a duty to all other men and women to make their lives as fulfilling as they can be. Honor and integrity are essential to life. Life, without honor and integrity, is without meaning. 7
