A Message from FR. Rob. Dear Brother Knights, The Lord is Risen-He is Risen Indeed. This ancient Easter greeting is the way early Greek Christians greeted one another. It was a beautiful way to share the joy of the Resurrection with one another. That is the call of all disciples today. Each one of us because of our baptism is to be a witness to the power of the Resurrection. Like those early disciples, we too encounter the Risen Lord as He comes to us each day. May these Easter days be filled with many opportunities for you to grow as a witness to the Gospel. Many thanks for the hard work on the Lenten Fish Frys. Not only are they a wonderful parish activity but they also enable us to welcome many other members of the wider community to come and experience our Christian hospitality. As always the reviews were excellent and people enjoy coming to share the time. Well done. May the Risen Lord continue to inspire us to answer the call to serve in love. Happy Easter Fr. Rob Grand Knight Report Worthy Brother Knights: The last news article I had written to you was to wish you a Happy New Year! We are now entering our fourth month of the New Year and at the same time wrapping up the season of Lent, Good Friday and above all, Easter; the celebration of the risen Christ! I would like to take this time to reach out to you and your families and wish you a Happy Easter! Time keeps forging ahead and our council keeps forging ahead (with the help of God) with our charitable work. Our support and presence continues strong while serving at the Downtown Mission. We are at the bingos taking our turns at the sessions, and bringing in funds to our charity account which in turn, we spread out to our local charities. And; while all this is going on, we strive in making each of our six Lenten fish fries a phenomenal success! Keep up the good work Brother Knights! We have not done too badly, in obtaining new members either. Since the last news letter we have obtained three new members. Please welcome Mazin, Carmine and Davide to our council. Also, we have a potential of gaining an additional three new members shortly. Brothers, please wear your ASK ME buttons! We stand out when we do! From now until June, I do not anticipate holding any new membership drives. That does not mean our work is not done for the year. If you see an individual that has the potential and shows interest in the Knights, please invite him to one of our functions to help out. Let s show him what kind of fun we have doing charitable work. It is not a bad way to sway him towards us. I am also going to steel this little exert from my last article: As a (practicing Catholic) Knight, you are at different events and charities, and also doing good things for the parish; isn t it worth something to just reach out to somebody new sitting in the pews? Get to know him and maybe invite him to try us out before committing? It doesn t hurt to reach out and ask. You are advertising on behalf of the Knights. To those that did, thank you for putting your April 2,

hours into the Annual Survey of Fraternal Activities. Thank you Dan Pergolesi and Bob Cayea for tallying all the hours that were either entered or by going through the list and confirming the hours of members we knew were doing charitable work. Again, these hours are important to keep our charitable status with the Governments. As a reminder, it is easier to go on our web site and keep track of your hours after each event. That way you don t have to remember what you did throughout the entire year! Use the link on the web site. You can add as many entries as you like. Just make sure you enter the correct year and the correct date! Again, if you have any ideas and or comments, please feel free to contact me by either phoning and or texting me at (leave a message, if I don t pick up) or by at tbirdrules50@gmail.com. Hope to see you soon at our meetings, and support us at various events we do! Just an hour or two of your time does a whole lot of good! Peace to one and all. Vivat Jesus Dave Orosz GK 8919 Chancellor Report: Please keep all who are sick Again, I am requesting that all STATE or in distress in your COUNCIL SERVICE PROGRAM AWARDS thoughts and prayers. form #STSP, be filled out by ALL directors and chairmen at the end of each event. I would like to remind all brother Knights of our upcoming elections. Nominations will begin at our next general meeting being held on Tuesday April 3rd. Elections are held at the following general meeting in May. Please do attend! I will be staying on as promised, unless some else would like to stand. There are other positions in the council that will be coming up and will need to be filled. I also encourage all to seek out about the position you may be interested in and throw your hat in the ring. Also I am looking for someone to fill the appointed position of Financial Secretary. Please give it thought and contact me and or Bob Cayea. We need this position filled as requirements to be a functioning council. April 2,

Financial Secretary Message: I would like to thank the majority of members who have paid there dues to date. It is greatly appreciated by the council. These are the funds that are used to operate the business of Fr. Paul J. F. Wattson. There are only 18 members who are left to pay their dues. If dues are not paid by March 31, an unpaid member cannot attend any meeting nor does he have a vote on any business or election in council. Some of those members who have dues outstanding are 3 years in arrears. If there is a problem with being able to pay, we can help you. We can make arrangement with you to pay them over a 3, 4 or 5 month period thus lessening the burden. If you are in financial straights, let us know and we can make some kind of other arrangement to keep you as a member. You are our most important asset, not because of the money but for what you are capable of bringing to the council ways and programs which can help our community, church, families and youth. You are most important to us. You are part of our K of C family. No one want to lose a family member not even the K of C. Call me ( ) and let me help you stay a member in good standing on our Catholic K of C family. Financial Secretary. Bob Cayea K of C Choir What better way to represent your council than by singing in our choir. We practice on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. (Not every Monday.), and we sing twice a month at the 10 a.m. mass. Furthermore, we have a good time doing it. JOIN US! Remember: He who sings prays twice. Bob Cayea Choir Director Family of the Month March 2018 Gavino and Dolores Seu and Family Gavino was born on the Italian island of Sardinia in He can expect a long life since the island is considered a Blue Zone ; an area where a large number of inhabitants live to 100 years of age and older. Many studies are being conducted in Sardinia to identify any genetic markers, lifestyle and/or diet to explain the extraordinary longevity of its citizens. In December 1953 the family (parents Leonardo and Francesca, Gavino and sister Nina) immigrated to Canada, making their home in Windsor. Gavino married his wife Dolores in Gavino graduated from the University of Windsor, hoping to become a teacher. However, at that time there were limited opportunities to teach in the elementary schools so Gavino accepted a sessional teaching contract at St. Clair College in the Adult Retraining Program. When the teaching contract expired two years later Gavino began employment at the General Motors Trim plant in Materials Management and Logistics and in Human Resources. He remained there through 3 sales of the plant to Peregrine, Jay Alex and Associates, and Lear Canada. He eventually had an opportunity to get rehired at the General Motors Transmission plant in Windsor, working as a Manufacturing Supervisor until his retirement in December Do you like to sing in the shower? Do you sing songs as they are being played on the radio? Have we got a spot for you! Your voice can help us to add beauty to our masses and function. April 2, 2018 Dolores, also of Italian heritage, was born 4

and raised in Windsor. She worked in administration at St. Clair College and Ford Motor Company, from which she retired in Gavino and Dolores have two daughters, Alexis and Vanessa. Alexis is an elementary teacher with the Catholic School Board. She is married to Dustin Mason and they have two sons; Gavin who is three and a half and Carmelo who is 7 weeks old. Vanessa is an occasional teacher (hoping for a full-time position), also with the Catholic School Board. She is engaged to Brandon Holland and will be married in our parish in May. Brandon had expressed a desire to become a Catholic so Gavino is sponsoring him in the current RCIA program. The Seu family moved to Forest Glade in 1982, becoming members of Our Lady of the Atonement Parish shortly after. Dolores is a member of the Catholic Women s League. Gavino is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He works bingos for both the Knights and the Parish and assists with the Knights cooking team for the weekly Lenten Fish Fries. For the St. Vincent de Paul Society Gavino sorts donated clothing, unloads the trailers that deliver mattresses and box springs, and delivers groceries to the needy. He was a member of the now disbanded Stewardship Committee and the Fundraising Committee. For the last three years Gavino has been volunteering twice a month to teach computer and internet basics and MS Office to retirees at the UNIFOR Local 1973 office on Somme Avenue. Report from the 4 th Degree Greetings Brother Knights, The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus is the ceremonial arm of the Order, adhering to the principal of Patriotism. The Assembly of 4th Degree may be comprised of Knights from several councils in an area or from a single council. In 1900, the Order was expanding, but members felt that there should be an importance placed on a sense of patriotism. That year, the Order officially added Patriotism to the Knights principles and on February 22, 1900, the first Fourth Degree Exemplification took place in New York City, with 1,100 Knights participating. A similar event took place in Boston in May with another 750 candidates taking thepatriotic Degree. The importance of the Fourth Degree was then born. Generally, an Assembly is made up of Knights from more than one council in a city. As it applies to Council 8919, Fourth Degree members are part of the RT Rev Wilfrid J. Langlois Assembly We share the membership in the Assembly with members of other Windsor and Tecumseh councils: Bishop John T. Kidd (4924), Fr. Nicholas Point (4375), and Fr. Victor C. Cote (9671). Fourth Degree members are known as Sir Knights. While each council has a Grand Knight, the assembly s equivalent is the Faithful Navigator. I am the current Faithful Navigator of Assembly Council 8919 thanks the entire There is generally a Fourth Degree Seu Family and it is an honour Exemplification every year, though in years to name them as our Family of past we have sometimes held two. One in The Month for March the Toronto area in May or June, with a second held further south in the Essex area Dave Wilbur in the fall. Family Director April 2,

Membership is open to any Third Degree Member in good-standing with his council. At present, Assembly 1789 meets in the hall of St. Anne s Parish on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M., each month of the year. Our next Exemplification will be held in St. Thomas in November, and we encourage any Brother 3 rd Degree Knight to join our ranks. If you are interested in learning more about the Fourth Degree, please contact myself or any other member of our Council, and we will gladly provide you with any information you may require. Vivat Jesus, Dan E. Pergolesi : Faithful Navigator RT. Rev. Wilfrid J. Langlois Assembly Father Patrick Peyton In the March 2016 Columbia the Editorial mentions Holy Cross Father Patrick Peyton who was declared "Venerable " by Pope Francis in December. This peaked my interest immediately because as a youth I attended a rosary crusade with mama in Jackson Park when I was in grade two. He coined the phrase the family that prays together stays together. Later the editor states that studies have demonstrated that a father 's practice of the Catholic faith is the strongest predictor of whether or not children will continue their parents faith as adults. Fr. Peyton popularized saying the family rosary through 50 years of ministry until his death in When he was 19 he journeyed from Ireland to the University of Notre Dame and later entered Holy Cross Seminary in September April 2, 2018 He almost died in 1938 when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and his doctors did not think he would survive. He prayed to the Virgin Mary asking her to intercede for his recovery. He survived and his doctors were lost for words. After his ordination in June 1941 he began an independent apostolate based on family prayer and the rosary. He later started a national radio broadcast with Bing Crosby as host. He secured the service of many, many stars, including, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart to mention a few. He then inaugurated the first Family Rosary Crusade which made him internationally known in Guess where? London Ontario. But as I said earlier he eventually came to Windsor, (I guess the buck doesn't stop in London). He traversed the globe numerous times after that. He spoke to massive crowds some in excess of 2 million people. He died peacefully on June 3,1992, with a rosary in his hand. That year our Order sent rosaries to nations formerly part of the Soviet bloc where Catholicism had suffered suppression under communism. Respectfully submitted, Brother Paul De Ruyter. 6

Be Careful What You Ask For. Just prior to Sunday Service collection, a Pastor stood, looked out upon his congregation, and asked, If today someone is willing to give $100, I will let them pick the next three Hymn s. There was a quite among the worshippers, until from the middle of the church, a little older lady stood up and said, I will Father. The Pastor surprised and a little content with himself in what he was able to able to achieve, replied, Well thank you my dear. Now which Hymn s would you like? The little lady, with a slight grin looked around the church, and pointing replied, I ll take him, and him, and him. She then sat back down not so surprised and very content with what she was able to achieve. Life Matters Andrew J. Despins, Knights of Columbus Insurance Are you paying too much for your mortgage insurance? You may have taken out the insurance that your bank or credit union offered you when you applied for a mortgage. If you did, that was good thinking. What you owe on your home is probably the single biggest debt you'll ever incur, so it makes sense to have it fully insured. But, like many other people, you may not have known that you can obtain better coverage at a lower rate by buying your own individual insurance policy! Generally speaking, the insurance offered by the bank is a "one size fits all" product. Individual insurance, on the other hand, is based on your own medical condition. If you're in good health, why would you want to pay the same rate as someone who smokes a pack a day? Should you change banks when your mortgage renews, you may lose your bank insurance coverage and have to reapply at your new lender. With an individual policy, you can take your insurance coverage with you without ever having to submit new medical information. The financial institution is named as beneficiary on insurance from the bank. You pay the premiums, but they'll get the money should something happen to you. An individual policy, however, allows you to name your own beneficiary meaning your loved ones can decide when (or if) they want to pay off the mortgage or if they'd rather invest the proceeds instead. If you're interested in getting a comparison quote or learning more about how an individual mortgage insurance policy could work for you, please don't hesitate to contact me.
