4 All Angels by the Sea- An Intrductin All Angels by the Sea Episcpal Church is a cmmunity f 224 cmmunicants and an average Sunday Attendance f 88. As ne might expect we are lder (77 years f age n the average) and married. While we lve children, we tend t see them when they visit their grandparents. On the average, a member has been with ur parish fr 12 years. When asked, ur members will tell yu that they are drawn by ur: Friendliness Wrship Music Lcatin Episcpal Identity Just ver half f ur parishiners are year-rund Lngbat key residents. The remainder are either seasnal r intermittent visitrs. Eighty percent f ur cngregatin is retired. They cme with a backgrund in business, educatin, and health care. When asked fr the reasns fr their cntinuing invlvement at All Angels, the tp chices were: Lyalty t the Episcpal Church The Priest in Charge Friendliness f the cngregatin General ambiance and tne f the parish When surveyed, ur members d nt want any significant changes t the wrship service. A few indicated an ccasinal service f Evensng and/r Mrning Prayer. A large majrity f the parish said that church cmmunicatins wrked well and that the Outreach Prgram fcusing n charitable rganizatins in Sarasta and Manatee Cunties was satisfying. Our Parish Survey asked what draws yur invlvement? 5 Our Parish Organizatins: All Angels by the Sea is an active and vibrant church. We prvide many pprtunities fr invlvement and participatin thrugh a variety f rganizatins and cmmittees. Using the tried-and-true SWEEPS acrnym (Service, Wrship, Educatin, Evangelism, and Stewardship), here is a lk at hw we are rganized: Service All Angels Grant Prgram. Recent Grants include: $10,000 t UnidsNw, t prvide lw incme, first generatin Latin high schl students with guidance fr entering cllege $7,000 t Meals n Wheels f Manatee Cunty $5,000 t Children First, t strengthen at-risk children and families. $5,000 t Tidewell Hspice Episcpal Church Wmen Our ECW is knwn, bth in the Church and the wider cmmunity, fr their strng dedicatin t utreach. They meet mnthly, Nvember thrugh May, fr lunch, fellwship and an infrmative prgram r guest speaker. Our ECW plays an imprtant part in ur parish utreach. Wrship Altar Guild: the wrk f ur Altar Guild is vital t the beauty f ur wrship services. The Guild sets up ur Altar fr all liturgies. We maintain linens and vestments, and we purchase and arrange Altar flwers. We als maintain the kits fr shut-in Cmmunins. Centering Prayer: a Small grup meets weekly t practice this ancient frm f meditative and cntemplative prayer. Lay Ministry in Wrship: We are an integral part f every wrship service at All Angels. We participate as greeters, ushers, lectrs, chalice bearers, and servers. A speciallytrained and licensed grup f Eucharistic Visitrs take cmmunin t the shut-ins. Music Prgram: Led by Dale Hey wh jined the Staff in April 2006, ur Music Prgram plays a vital part in ur wrship services. We enjy the stunning renditins n ur Rdgers 940 Organ and a Clavinva. 6 Educatin Educatin Cmmittee: We wrk with the Priest in Charge t identify and prvide Christian Educatin pprtunities Assist in the planning, publicity and ther supprt needs. Our current prgram fferings: Fall Lectures Advent Quiet Day Priest in Charge s Bk Club Lenten Lecture Series Wmen s Study and Discussin Grup Men s Study and Discussin Grup Jint prgrams with neighbring religius cmmunities Evangelism: While nt frmally rganized fr Evangelism, we make the Missin f Jesus Christ knwn thrugh ur engagement f the Apstle s teaching and fellwship, in the breaking f bread and in the prayers f ur peple. Pastral Care Caring Ministries Cmmissin: One f the standing Cmmissins f the Vestry, the Caring Ministries Cmmissin seeks t ffer an in reach ministry t members f ur cmmunity wh may need a helping hand due t illness, death, age r infirmity. Dining Club: We meet mnthly thrughut the year. We might cme tgether fr a pt-luck meal, meet at a lcal restaurant after ccktails at the hst s hme, g fr lunch, t any number f ther pssibilities invlving fd and fellwship. Fellwship Cmmissin: We prvide fellwship pprtunities fr parishiners and friends, such as: The Dining Club (see abve) Theater and ther cultural utings Chinese New Year Welcme Back and Farewell events hnring ur seasnal members Annual meeting Lunchen Newcmers and Hspitality Cmmissin: We see urselves as a warm and friendly hme. Our Greeters strive t make visitrs feel included frm the time they arrive at the church entrance t the warm welcme extended by the Priest in Charge at the clse f the service. A weekly Cffee Hur prvides an pprtunity t get t knw mre abut us. 7 Stewardship: We place the highest value upn Christian Stewardship and t that end the whle Vestry serves as ur Stewardship Cmmittee. We believe that stewardship ges beynd ur cmmitment f time, talent, and treasure t encmpass all facets f ur life. Our supprt has been generusly given ver the years, nt nly t build, maintain, and expand the parish, but als t give t thse in need beynd ur drs. Time is given freely in all rganizatins that make us a whle, living Church. We have a wealth f talent, and as a cause arises, we find the answer in the natural endwments f ur parishiners. This we strive t live ut ur persnal stewardship thrugh ur cnstantly expanding ministries with and beynd the parish. A nte n Finances: We cnsider prudent management f financial resurces t be a very imprtant part f parish life. The fcus is nt nly n day t day fiscal respnsibility but als n sustainability s that the parish will be there fr future generatins. Audit Cmmittee: An annual internal Audit is cnducted by vlunteers. This is an imprtant check f ur financial recrds, inventry and administrative prcedures. Endwment Fund: We manage the Parish endwment which helps t ensure the present and future financial stability f the parish. We spnsr educatinal prgrams and advise individuals n the varius ways and advantages f giving t the Church. Finance Cmmittee: We develp and mnitr the annual budget. We als recmmend financial plicies and prcedures t the Vestry. We supprt the Vestry in carrying ut its fiscal trustee respnsibility. This includes versight and guidance t all psitins and Cmmittees respnsible fr incme and spending. Prperty Cmmittee: We versee all aspects f ur Church s facilities and grunds, including ur cmputer systems, insurance, cntracts, and inventry recrd. Alng with ther vlunteers, we are actively maintaining ur physical plant and beautiful grunds. In 2016, the Vestry cmmissined a Capital Reserve Study f the grunds and facilities. A 30-year plan created fr the study insures that facilities remain strng and viable. Other Assets Art Gallery: Lcated next t the Narthex, the Gallery prvides a pleasing entry t the church and a passageway t the Parish Hall. The Gallery features wrks by area artists n a rtating basis. 8 Library: We have a well-stcked and prfessinally rganized Parish Library in the Parish Hall. The ever-grwing cllectin is maintained by vlunteers. Memrial Garden: The Vestry and parish leadership realized that ur prperty culd ffer a very special place fr thse wh chse crematin and wuld like t be inurned in an abvegrund memrial structure. 9 Our Cmmunity: Lngbat Key is a barrier island lcated near the City f Sarasta. The Key has 12 thusand seasnal residents. The peak seasn may see as many as 25 thusand. The average temperature is 73 degrees and an average rainfall f 52 inches. Lngbat Key lies between tw cunties (Manatee and Sarasta). We were incrprated in 1955 and we are gverned by a 7 member Twn Cmmissin and administered by a Twn Manager. We share a gd ecumenical spirit. We are ne f five Huses f Wrship including Lngbat Chapel (nn-denminatinal) St. Mary Star f the Sea (Rman Cathlic) Temple Beth Israel Christ Church (Presbyterian) Our Histry: In tday s car-crazed culture where a car ride is just an Uber phne call away, it is hard t imagine that at ne time, nt t many years ag, getting in a car and driving t church n a Sunday mrning was a hardship, especially n Lngbat Key. In ur early years the natin faced a gasline crisis and Episcpalians n the barrier Islands wrshipped at the Church f the Redeemer in dwntwn Sarasta, ten miles away. A lcal ptin became all the mre imprtant. Missin status was granted in Sixty peple attended services held at the Cast Federal Savings and Lan building, affectinately knwn by wrshippers as the Upper Rm. Archdeacn Hyt Massey dcked his bat nearby and preached the first sermn. He called the fledgling cngregatin Lrd s Angels. The cngregatin s respnse was t establish the missin as All Angels by the Sea Parish Prfile + All Angels by the Sea + Lngbat Key

10 A Wrd abut the Dicese f Suthwest Flrida Our Dicese is part f The Episcpal Church, and f the wrldwide Anglican Cmmunin. The Dicese f Suthwest Flrida s 78 cngregatins ttal ver 30,000 baptized persns wh share an exciting pilgrimage f ministry and missin. The Dicese extends alng the cast f the Gulf f Mexic, frm Brksville in the nrth t Marc Island in the suth. The Rt. Rev. Dabney Tyler Smith was installed as Bishp in 2007, and in 2014 he was ne f the fur final candidates fr Presiding Bishp. The Dicesan ffices and cnference rms are lcated at DaySpring, a beautifully wded retreat and cnference center. Our Dicese has a relatively lw apprtinment (10%) versus ther diceses in TEC. 11 The Priest-in-Charge We Seek Fr many parishiners, Lngbat Key and the surrunding area mark a paradise hme ending a rich and rewarding wrk life and family-building years. All Angels by the Sea becmes a year-rund r seasnal church hme t fully live ut ne s lngevity jurney. Cnsequently, parish life at all Angels is filled with wrship, devtinal educatinal and scial activities fund in mst churches but with fewer marriages r baptisms. We need a pastr wh can relate t thse in r nearing retirement/semiretirement that remain actively living ut their faith in the parish, cmmunity and family while at times facing the challenges f illness, physical impairment and tugh chices as t when/where t relcate t a retirement village r alternate care. Ministry #1. While the Priest-in-Charge plays a key rle in almst every church prgram, his/her mst imprtant ministry is relating well t parishiners as they execute their leadership respnsibilities. He/she must take a caring interest in each parishiner s faith jurney and persnal challenges. In shrt, he/she must have strng interpersnal and pastral skills. Ministry #2: We have very high expectatins fr preaching frm the pulpit. It must be biblically based and insightfully related t issues f mdern life. Our educatinal attainment level is well abve average. Sermns shuld challenge us t bth think and be the salt f the earth. Ministry #3: We have been a stable church f abut 100 pledging units fr many years. We need t grw t be a welcming place fr the many un-churched Christians n the island and surrunding areas, especially thse familiar with Anglican, Rman Cathlic and Lutheran traditins f wrship. We must cnnect with 1) increasing numbers f prfessinals as they buy int lcal getaway residences as they wind dwn their careers and 2) flks in later life wh seek deeper meaning t life.
