At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-7 I remember the year CD players came out. Leading up to that Christmas, I begged my parents for months for one of those players that would replace audiotapes with a disc. I was shocked when two days before Christmas they handed me their credit card and told me I could go get one and they offered up a maximum limit. They were shocked when I came home with one of the top-of-the-line CD players $ above the budget they gave me. It was a Magnavox player that you could program. It would hold the memory of 100 disks, and you could set the order of the play list with each one. Somehow I talked my parents into letting me keep it. It was quite a machine; it never skipped and never gave me trouble. I still own it and it still works. Looking back it ranks up there with one the greatest Christmas gifts I ever received, and yet, the older I get and the more I grow in my faith, I realize how often I missed the reason for these seasons in my youth. This scripture passage from Titus sums it up well. God loves us and even though we are sinners, God made a way for everyone He created to be redeemed to be saved. God loved us so much that He sent Jesus into the world. This is the greatest gift offered to any of us. In that first Christmas season, Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament through His birth. The scriptures tell us that He came to save the world and that if we will believe in Him and claim Him as our Lord and Savior, we will be heirs of God children who are forgiven and receive the promise of eternal life. Thanksgiving is a time that celebrates God s goodness and provision. During the Thanksgiving season, we celebrate how God loves us and provided not only for our salvation, but gave us this nation so that we may worship Him in freedom. It is a time to highlight all the ways that God blesses us everyday family, friends, our staff, our church, the presence of God through His Holy Spirit, etc. We have so much for which to give thanks. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday (holy day) season this year. I pray you are able to spend them with your family, friends, loved ones and/or church. I hope that as we worship, eat great food and goodies, decorate, share gifts, attend gatherings, etc., we will remember the reason for the season. It is during this time of year we give thanks and celebrate the greatest gift offered to us and all humankind the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. May we all claim this gift, give thanks to God, and celebrate His amazing love and mercy! We hope you will bring family and friends to celebrate this gift by attending our services this season. May we all claim this gift for ourselves, give thanks to God and celebrate His amazing love and mercy! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas! -Pastor Jonathan
