One of the many blessings is our church staff. God uses our staff to bless us with worship, programming (children, youth, adult, music, etc.), spiritual growth, support and care, and the list goes on. The Reverend Rich Hartman has been part of our staff as the Pastor of Visitation for over 10 years. He and Eileen came to us after Rich retired as a United Methodist Pastor from the Pennsylvania conference. Rich has blessed our church family and community and he has been a consistent presence for three full-time appointed pastors (Alan, Ross, and Jonathan). Now, God is calling him to a second season of retirement and so we celebrate and reflect on how God has used Pastor Rich at Horne. We celebrate Rich s life and ministry on Sun, June 24 in all services. In his role as Pastor of Visitation, Pastor Rich looked after our shut-ins and those recovering from illness and/or surgery. Visiting homes, facilities, and hospitals he has often served as the extension of our hands and feet. He has spent time sitting and praying with families, and responding to emergency situations that have impacted our church family. He has also been on-call for the pastors in their absence. Rich s duties did not stop at visitation. He conducted funerals and walked with the families in their time of grief and pain. He performed weddings and shared with families in their times of joy and celebration. Rich has helped with marriage enrichment and preparation. He has conducted baptisms and been a great support in worship. He has been an invaluable member of our staff team and a blessing to our church. Pastor Rich s worship duties have included preaching, worship leading, and conducting the sacraments (Baptism and Holy Communion). When Horne Memorial started a new church, River of Life, in Archer s Lodge, Rich stepped up to be the lead preacher and worship leader and served in that capacity for two and a half years. Rich also served as a part-time pastor at Calvary United Methodist Church in Clayton under conference appointment where he preached once a month. God did not just bless us with Pastor Rich, he blessed us through his wife, Eileen. Eileen has been a steadfast prayer warrior for our church. She encourages people of all ages and has participated in programming, Bible studies, our women s ministries, as well as walking beside and supporting Rich in all endeavors. Rich and Eileen have been instrumental in helping form a prayer ministry here at Horne. God has certainly impacted our lives through the ministry of the Hartman s. As God leads Pastor Rich into a second retirement season, may we pray that God would continue to use the Hartman s to bless our church and community. Pastor Rich and Eileen will remain a vital part of our church family. He will conduct the sacrament of Holy Communion from time to time, and he will still be called upon to visit or to be on-call for the pastors. As this season ends, we know that there is a new season ahead for Rich and Eileen in life and ministry. Let us remember how God has enriched our lives through Pastor Rich and his family as we look forward to see what God has in store for them next. So for now, Pastor Rich, we say, Thank You!
