Message frm the Grand Knight First, I want t thank everyne wh helped ut this busy Advent and Christmas seasn. Yu helped make ur church shine t all that visited us. Church members and guests are always impressed with the cngregatin and the building; that is such a blessing. Secnd, I want t share a stry with yu that I witnessed just a cuple f days prir t Christmas. On Saturday December 22 nd arund 5 PM, my family had just finished dinner and was in the middle f pening gifts fr Christmas with my in-laws and extended family n Kirsta s side because we were nt ging t be hme ver the hlidays. My cell phne rang with a call frm Jhn Whattam wanting t knw if I wuld accmpany him t Gene Slme s hme t share the Bdy f Christ with the Slme family and drp ff dinner. I said, Let me call yu right back. Kirsta asked wh was n the phne, s I tld her, and the rest f the family said, Yu wn t be able t see what we get fr Christmas if yu g. Kirsta encuraged me t g, I felt like I needed t g, and s I said that I wuld get t see everything when I gt back. I called Jhn and said that I wuld be right there. I climbed ver all f the gifts, grabbed my cat, and jumped in the car. I was feeling a little guilty fr leaving but I was there befre I knew it. I gt t the dr and went inside t find the whle Slme family and Jhn talking in the family rm; I jined in with them. We were led by Jhn in prayer and we received the Bdy f Christ. Upn asking if Gene culd receive, we were infrmed that he hadn t been able t swallw anything fr the last week r s, but we culd try. Jhn, the family, and I went t Gene s bedside. Jhn said, The Bdy f Christ. Gene pened his muth, Jhn placed the Bdy n Gene s tngue, and Gene swallwed. There was a tear in Gene s eye and a lk that said, Amen. As yu knw, Gene passed away the fllwing day. I knw that the last thing he cnsumed was Christ.

2 (Message frm the Grand Knight- Cntinued) When I returned t my brther-in-law s hme, the presents were pened, but I knew that I had witnessed the greatest gift ever given. I knw that Gene is in the greatest place imaginable, lking dwn n us right nw smiling. There are a few f peple in yur life wh yu knw that change yu fr the better. I believe Gene was ne. He inspired me t be a better Knight, Cathlic, father, husband, and man. I thank Gd fr placing him in my path.
