2 Proverbs 8:1-36 Proverbs 1:8-9:18 The Proverbs of Solomon: Wisdom Speeches Proverbs 8:1-36 The Instruction of Wisdom The Second Poem Proverbs 8:1-11 The Personification of Wisdom Proverbs 8:1-9 The Call of Wisdom (1) Is not Wisdom calling? And is not understanding raising her voice? (2) She has stood at the head of the high places, along the way between the paths, (3) beside of the gates; at the mouth of the city, at the entrance of the doors, she cries out. (4) To you, O men, I am calling, and My voice is to the sons of man. (5) Understand prudence, O simple ones; and fools, get an understanding heart. (6) Hear, because I will speak noble things, and the opening of My lips will be uprightness. (7) Because My mouth will speak truth, and an abomination of My lips is wickedness. (8) In righteousness are all of the speeches of My mouth. there is nothing in them twisted or crooked; (9) All of them are straight to the one understanding and upright to the ones finding knowledge.

3 Proverbs 8:1-36 Proverbs 8:10-11 The Command of Wisdom (10) Receive My discipline, and not silver; and knowledge, rather than choice gold. (11) Because better is wisdom than jewels, and all delights are not able to be compared with it. Proverbs 8:12-16 The Presentation of Wisdom Proverbs 8:12-14 The Concepts of Wisdom (12) I, Wisdom, have dwelt with prudence, and I find knowledge of insight. (13) The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil; pride and arrogance, and an evil way, and the mouth of perversity I have hated. (14) To Me is advice and sound judgment; I am understanding; to Me is strength. Proverbs 8:15-16 The Compensation of Wisdom (15) By Me kings reign, and rulers will decree righteousness. (16) By me rulers and nobles rule, and all of the judges of righteousness.

4 Proverbs 8:1-36 Proverbs 8:17-21 The Provision of Wisdom Proverbs 8:17 The Creed of Wisdom (17) I myself love the ones loving Me, and the ones seeking Me early will find Me. Proverbs 8:18-19 The Companionship of Wisdom (18) Riches and glory are with Me; everlasting wealth and righteousness. (19) My fruit is better than gold, even, than fine gold; and My produce is better than choice silver. Proverbs 8:20-21 The Conduct of Wisdom (20) I walk in the path of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice; (21) to cause the ones loving Me to possess wealth, and I will fill up their treasuries. Proverbs 8:22-26 The Possession of Wisdom Proverbs 8:22-26 The Claim of Wisdom (22) Yahweh has possessed Me at the beginning of His way, before His works from time past. (23) I have been appointed from eternity, from the beginning, from before the earth.

5 Proverbs 8:1-36 (24) When there were no deep waters, I had been brought forth; when there were no springs filled with water. (25) Before the mountains had been settled, before the hills, I had been brought forth; (26) When He had not made the land and fields, and the beginning of the dust of the world. Proverbs 8:27-31 The Participation of Wisdom Proverbs 8:27 The Capability of Wisdom (27) When He established the heavens, There I was; when He marked out the horizon upon the surface of the deep, (28) When He established the clouds from above, When He secured the fountains of the deep waters, (29) When He set for the sea his decree, and the waters will not pass beyond His command; When he marked out the foundations of the earth, (30) and I was beside him, as a craftsman; and I was His joy day after day, rejoicing in his presence in all of the time; (31) rejoicing in the world of His earth; and My delights were with the sons of man.

6 Proverbs 8:1-36 Proverbs 8:32-36 The Proclamation of Wisdom Proverbs 8:32-33 The Commands of Wisdom (32) And now, O sons, listen to Me, and blessed are the ones keeping My ways. (33) Hear discipline, and be wise, and do not neglect it. Proverbs 8:34-36 The Compensations of Wisdom (34) Blessed is the man listening to Me, watching day after day at My gates, guarding at the doorposts of My doorways. (35) Because the one finding Me is finding life, and he obtain favor from Yahweh. (36) And the one sinning against Me is injuring his soul; all of the ones hating Me have loved death.

7 Triliner Text (22) Yahweh has possessed Me.כב י הו ה ק נ נ י kuvrio" e[ktisevn me at the beginning of His way, ר אשׁ ית ד ר כּ וֹ ajrch;n ojdw'n aujtou' before His works from time past. ק ד ם מ פ ע ל יו :מ א ז eij" e[rga aujtou', (23) I have been appointed from eternity, מ ר אשׁ נ ס כ ת י מ עוֹל ם.כג pro; tou' aijw'no" ejqemelivwsevn me from the beginning, from before the earth. : א ר ץ-מ ק ד מ י ejn ajrch'/, (24) When there were no deep waters,.כד ת ה מוֹת-בּ א ין חוֹל ל ת י pro; tou' th;n gh'n poih'sai I had been brought forth; בּ א ין kai; pro; tou' ta;" ajbuvssou" poih'sai, when there were no springs filled with water. :מ י ם-נ כ בּ ד י מ ע י נוֹת pro; tou' proelqei'n ta;" phga;" tw'n ujdavtwn,

8 Triliner Text (25) Before the mountains had been settled, ה ט בּ עוּ ה ר י ם בּ ט ר ם.כה pro; tou' o[rh ejdrasqh'nai, before the hills, I had been brought forth; :חוֹל ל ת י ג ב עוֹת ל פ נ י pro; de; pavntwn bounw'n genna'/ me. (26) When He had not made ע שׂ ה ל א-ע ד.כו kuvrio" ejpoivhsen the land and fields, ו חוּצוֹת א ר ץ cwvra" kai; ajoikhvtou" and the beginning of the dust of the world. :ת ב ל ע פ רוֹת ו ר אשׁ kai; a[kra oijkouvmena th'" ujpæ oujranovn. (27) When He established the heavens, שׁ מ י ם בּ ה כ ינוֹ.כז hjnivka hjtoivmazen to;n oujranovn, There I was; א נ י שׁ ם sumparhvmhn aujtw'/, when He marked out the horizon חוּג בּ ח קוֹ kai; o{te ajfwvrizen to;n ejautou' upon the surface of the deep, :ת הוֹם פּ נ י-ע ל qrovnon ejpæ ajnevmwn.

9 Triliner Text (28) When He established the clouds from above, מ מ ע ל שׁ ח ק ים בּ א מ צוֹ.כח hjnivka ijscura; ejpoivei ta; a[nw nevfh, When He secured the fountains of the deep waters, :ת הוֹם ע ינוֹת בּ ע זוֹז kai; wj" ajsfalei'" ejtivqei phga;" th'" ujpæ oujrano;n (29) When He set for the sea his decree,.כט בּ שׂוּמוֹ ל י ם ח קוֹ kai; ijscura; and the waters will not pass beyond פ יו-י ע ב רוּ ל א וּמ י ם His command; When he marked out the foundations בּ חוּקוֹ מוֹס ד י ejpoivei ta; qemevlia of the earth, : א ר ץ th'" gh'", (30) and I was beside him, as a craftsman;.ל ו א ה י ה א צ לוֹ א מוֹן h[mhn paræ aujtw'/ ajrmovzousa, and I was His joy day after day, יוֹם יוֹם שׁ ע שׁ ע ים ו א ה י ה ejgw; h[mhn h / prosevcairen. kaqæ hjmevran de; rejoicing in his presence in all of the time; :ע ת-בּ כ ל ל פ נ יו מ שׂ ח ק ת eujfrainovmhn ejn proswvpw/ aujtou' ejn panti; kairw'/,

10 Triliner Text (31) rejoicing in the world of His earth; א ר צ וֹ בּ ת ב ל מ שׂ ח ק ת.לא o{te ejufraivneto th;n oijkoumevnhn suntelevsa" and My delights were with the sons of man. :א ד ם בּ נ י-א ת ו שׁ ע שׁ ע י kai; ejneufraivneto ejn uijoi'" ajnqrwvpwn. (32) And now, O sons, listen to Me, ל י- שׁ מ עוּ ב נ ים ו ע ת ה.לב nu'n ou\n, uijev, a[kouev mou. and blessed are the ones keeping My ways. ו א שׁ ר י :י שׁ מ רוּ ד ר כ י (33) Hear discipline, and be wise, ו ח כ מוּ מוּס ר שׁ מ עוּ.לג and do not neglect it. : ת פ ר עוּ-ו א ל (34) Blessed is the man listening to Me, ל י שׁ מ ע א ד ם א שׁ ר י.לד makavrio" ajnhvr, o}" eijsakouvsetaiv mou, watching day after day at My gates, יוֹם יוֹם ד ל ת ת י-ע ל ל שׁ ק ד kai; a[nqrwpo", o}" ta;" ejma;" ojdou;" fulavxei guarding at the doorposts of My doorways. :פּ ת ח י מ זוּז ת ל שׁ מ ר ajgrupnw'n ejpæ ejmai'" quvrai" kaqæ hjmevran thrw'n staqmou;" ejmw'n eijsovdwn:

11 Triliner Text (35) Because the one finding Me is finding life, ח י ים [מ צ א] (מ צ אי) מ צ א י כּ י.לה aij ga;r e[xodoiv mou e[xodoi zwh'", and he obtain favor from Yahweh. :מ י הו ה ר צ וֹ ן ו י פ ק kai; ejtoimavzetai qevlhsi" para; kurivou. (36) And the one sinning against Me.לו ו ח ט א י oij de; eij" ejme; ajmartavnonte" is injuring his soul; נ פ שׁוֹ ח מ ס ajsebou'sin ta;" ejautw'n yucav", all of the ones hating Me have loved death. :מ ו ת א ה בוּ מ שׂ נ א י-כּ ל kai; oij misou'ntev" me ajgapw'sin qavnaton.
