1 Cross Talk April Seaboard Street, Hiram GA Note from Pastor Upcoming Events SUNDAY WORSHIP WITH COMMUNION 9:30 AM Bible studies will resumed Wednesday, April 24 Passion of Luke for Palm Sunday 9:30 AM There is New Life in Christ On a recent Sunday, we heard about a landowner and a gardener that went out to look at the fig trees. They observed that one particular tree was unfruitful it was taking up space and resources, the time of the farm s employees, water and care. After three years, the tree was not living up to the expectations of the landlord or of the tiller. The proprietor, upon seeing this, ordered the gardener to get rid of the tree. But the groundskeeper pleaded with the landowner, to be given an opportunity to loosen up the soil, fertilize it and give the plant an opportunity to give good fruit. That gardener insisted and didn t give up! Is it a coincidence that some of Jesus most powerful and moving parables had to do with agriculture and living organisms? Or that Mary Magdalene in John s gospel (20:15) mistook Jesus for a gardener and pleaded to know where Jesus had been laid? Or that the old, old story that we tell began in a garden? Is it strange that we dream of the end of time, in which humanity will gather as one family, at a banquet that will never end, where peace will reign and God s light will shine? Our message to our community is that God is alive and well among us, bringing healing and reconciliation to the nations, and that someday, there will be a kingdom of peace and justice. But meanwhile, we can see the way forward, and the world can share God s blessings, in our words and actions. The church is the foretaste of the good to come. We are what some have called almost, but not yet. Jesus is tending to us and taking care of us, cultivating changes in our words and actions. Ever being made new, we have a song to share with the world and lots of love! May God bless you and your family, and Holy Cross, this season and always! 2 Message from Council We know you are eager to learn what has been accomplished since our Congregational Meeting. At the conclusion of our meeting, a report was sent to Synod. The choices made at our Congregational meeting are not unrealistic but need to be accomplished over time with dedicated effort. These solutions will not be accomplished quickly and will require extensive research and planning before we can even think about implementation. Our first step was to appoint an Exploratory Committee and members of the congregation have been asked to help. However, while we prepare, it is essential that we don t dismiss the second option. More than likely, we have all been approached at one time or another by someone from another church knocking on our door. Or maybe you met someone while shopping that presented you with a flyer for their upcoming events. With these encounters did they ever begin with the question Do you have a church family? Maybe they should have. If the answer is yes then that is great. If the answer is no, would they like one? If you are up to this task we will provide you with tools to aid in these efforts. One more thing. We have the need for another Congregational Meeting which we have scheduled for April 28 following services. Pastor Julie s contract will expire on May 7. As always, the council welcomes any input you may wish to share.
