1 Beaverdam & ouzie s hapel : wo mazing hurches, ne wesome od 2018 B ssue 7 ear hurch amily, Jeremiah 29: 11 - " know the plans have in mind for you, declares the ord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope." ow, what a couple of months it has been. t is hard to believe that fall is right around the corner. ina and appreciate the warm welcome we have received from all of you. eedless to say, we are pleased with the plans that the ord has shown us and we know that our future together with you is filled with hope. e are all moved into the parsonage and believe it or not, we are fully unpacked with things already hung on the walls. t feels like home. e are planning on having an pen ouse on eptember 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. e want y'all to swing by and see all the hard work that went into getting the parsonage ready for us. lease join us for a time of fellowship and light snacks. t is hard to believe that summer is almost over. n some ways, love the end of summer. o me it s almost like starting a new year. here is all of the excitement of going back to school and settling into a new fall routine. or some, it s a prime time to coming back to church if you took a vacation from worship and maybe a time to join a small group study. John esley, the founder of ethodist movement, believed that small groups, or class meetings as he would call them, is one of the foundations of our faith. t is through our small group meetings that we stay connected to other ethodists in ways that we have a hard time doing during unday morning worship. t s a place where we can grow deeper as disciples. n our small group time together, we can explore and discuss scripture together and look at ways we can apply it to our lives today. t is where we can build close relationships with each other, ones where we can share our struggles and successes as we travel though life together. e are fortunate that we have three opportunities for joining a small group this fall starting the week of eptember 10 th. ou will find details on where and when each of the groups meet in this newsletter. ur small groups are not just bible studies; the choirs and the members of the ood inistry are small groups. hey are sharing hristian fellowship and caring for each other in a very meaningful way. f you have never been a part of a small group in a church setting, encourage you to try it out. eace, wen eveloping deep rooted relationships with od and each other. ontacting wen aylor, astor: hurch: ome: (o ome ater) ell: beaverdamumc@embarqmail.com

4 4 hought for the month: ews from the ews "aith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase. artin uther King, Jr.... ur help both with financial donations and food pantry items are needed badly; especially with pasta (any type) and spaghetti sauce. e have done an excellent job in maintaining the supply of these items needed to meet... s monthly needs for distribution. hanks to all for your generosity. B B e've had a fantastic summer. e were blessed by tlee hurch who sponsored us during their B and collected over 1000 personal hygiene products and hosted us with a night of packing food with the group. e have big plans for the fall. hank you for all of your spiritual and financial support. ew ife anch has closed down for residential treatment. he men have been moved to ichmond. he anch will now be open for hristian retreats. lease give your clothing donations to your favorite charity. nique is always in need of toiletries as well. adies of the... 6 6 eliveries he ork hurch 0 ouzie's hapel/beaverdam 6.0 hurch of our avior 0 otal ou probably noticed we have only delivered 6 loads of wood. hat s because we started our new fiscal year July 1 st and have been slowed by all the rain and hot weather we have had so far this summer. ur fiscal year marks the 14th year we have been in existence. e are working on job sites and it is taking at least twice as long to complete a job because of all the cancellations we have had for rain or heat. lso, our crew of 15 has dwindled to 3 or 4 during the summer as families are on vacation or not available to participate due to doctor s appointments. opefully, with cooler weather in eptember our work crew size will increase. ur crew of gray beards are also 14 years older than when we started and the body aches are getting more each year. ge and heavy lifting have taken their toll on our backs, hips, shoulders, and knees. ast year we announced that we were not sure if there would be another year of ood inistry at ouzie s/beaverdam. ell, we are still hanging on and are planning to support our families for another year as best we can. lease keep the ood inistry in your prayers. himney weep rogram ur himney weep rogram is in full swing. ouzie s hapel and Beaverdam are teaming with he ork hurch in oswell, and hurch of ur aviour in ontpelier again this summer to clean and inspect approximately 30 chimneys. e are partnering with eat weep, a chimney sweep business from ichmond. oug ordon is coordinating the 2018 himney weep program for the ood inistry. hank ou oug!!! he riendship Book heard the radio in the background when called round to see our friend an. ve just been listening to a program about illie elson, he told me. already knew quite a bit about him that he s long been a remarkable singer and songwriter, that he s had plenty of ups and downs in his career, and that he s never believed in following convention, but hadn t quite realized how much wisdom he d picked up along the way. particularly liked his comment, believe that all life is connected, and that there is beauty and value in all things. believe that truth is found in our own heart. he trick is to shut up and listen. es, definitely something to sing about!

But asking any question that appears to you when you read a passage is the beginning of unlocking its meaning. earn to sk uestions ere's how to proceed. irst, read the passage. hen be a detective; look for clues. hat's going on? hat stands out to you? hat don't you understand? ook for anomalies -- things that you might not expect to find here. onsider, for example, the familiar dialog between Jesus and icodemus: "ow there was a man of the harisees named icodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. e came to Jesus at night and said, 'abbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from od. or no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if od were not with him.' n reply Jesus declared, ' tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of od unless he is born again.' Box 67 Beaverdam, a (continued from page 7) everal questions occur to me as read this: here does this incident take place? hat did members of the harisee party typically believe? ow were they viewed in society? hat does it mean that icodemus is a member of the "Jewish ruling council" or anhedrin? hat does this tell me about him? hy did he come by night? hy does Jesus respond as he does to icodemus' introductory remarks in verse 2? sn't Jesus a bit abrupt or rude in verse 3? s icodemus' response in verse 4 mocking or is it a sincere question? hat does "born of water" mean in verse 6? hat does "born of the pirit" mean? hat does "born again" mean in verse 3? hat does the wind analogy in verse 8 teach us about the oly pirit? ou get the idea. our questions of this passage might be different than mine, but that's okay. here are no right or wrong questions.
