8 Page 8 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Cub Scouts is a Family Ministry at St. Kilian Our program is geared towards boys (K-5) AND their families (parents and siblings - girls and boys). Simply put, our goal is to help boys become MEN: Men of good character, strong faith, an attitude of citizenship, and a responsibility to family. Like-minded families come together to have FUN and support this goal. In the process, the families form bonds with each other and develop friendships. No matter which Mass we attend, we usually see one or more of our Cub Scout families! For young people, seeing friends at Mass is special. Pack 714 invites ALL St. Kilian Youth in grades K-5 to attend the following: Mon., Oct. 1 at 6:45pm for a demonstration by the OC Sheriff s K-9 unit (in the Hall) Sat., Nov. 3 from 9-11am for a Bike rodeo and safety program. Bring your bike and helmet and a non-perishable food item for the Food Pantry. (lower parking lot) From our dads: "When I was a Cub Scout, my Pack dissolved before the Pinewood Derby. I was so disappointed. To make sure my son, Logan, has a GREAT Cub Scout experience, I became the Asst. Cubmaster and the Track Meister for the annual Pinewood Derby. Through our Scouting experience, Logan and I have formed a deeper father-son bond. We look forward to participating in the activities together and I enjoy a second chance in Scouting, this time as an adult. - Dave Ball, Assistant Cubmaster Having always wanted to be a Scout when I was young, I was excited to try Cub Scouts for my oldest son, especially at our parish. We were a little too eager and tried to sign up before he was old enough. We anxiously waited a full year to join but it was worth it. He is now in his final year before moving to Boy Scouts. Experiences that stand out for us: Family Camps, overnight on the USS Midway, and Harbor Patrol / Coast Guard tours. Jonah interacts with boys that all have a common goal to earn their rank and have fun doing it. Now his two younger brothers, Luke and Ben, are Cub Scouts following in Jonah s footsteps. - Matt Peek, Webelo's Leader, Webmaster, Family Camp Chair The DiRico Family has begun our 4 th year in Cub Scouts with our son, Auggie. Family Camp is always a highlight. Last year, I organized the annual bike rodeo to help the boys with their bike handling and safety skills.
