16 BACKYARD THEOLOGY/SUMMER FELLOWSHIP 2018 July 3, 10,17, and 24 BOUNTIFUL POTLUCK AND FELLOWSHIP GATHERING 6pm DINNER 6:30pm SPEAKER 7:30-8:30pm July 3 SPEAKER: Father Pat Murphy TOPIC: Casa del Migrante The Church at the Border Father Murphy graduated from Dominican University in 1974, with a bachelor s in psychology and in 1979, completed his Masters in Divinity at the University of Toronto. He also received a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University, Chicago in He is a member of the Missionaries of St. Charles and was ordained a priest in His ministry has been mostly with Hispanic communities in places like Chicago, Los Angeles and Kansas City. Since May, 2013, he has been the Director of the Casa del Migrante in Tijuana, Mexico, a house of hospitality for immigrants, refugees and deportees. He recently co-authored a book on the thirty-year history of Casa del Migrante, called Vidas envilo (Lives in Limbo). July 10- SPEAKER: Father Tuan Pham TOPIC: Holy Communion in the Holy Eucharist Celebration Father Tuan is the Parochial Vicar at St. Kilian Parish. He was born in North Vietnam and came to Orange County ten years ago to enter the seminary. St. Kilian has welcomed him for his first parish assignment. Fr. Tuan will lead us to a deeper understanding of Holy Communion and how receiving Jesus can affect our bodies and souls. July 17 SPEAKER: Renee Bondi TOPIC: The Power of Praise This Tuesday, dinner will be in the Parish Hall and the speaker s presentation is 7:45 to 8:45 in the Church. At age 29, a bizarre accident shattered her spine and left her a quadriplegic. Renee lost not only the use of her hands and legs, but also her singing voice she could barely speak above a whisper. Against all odds and all physicians prognoses, Renee s voice was miraculously restored with a crystal clear, angelic sound. Renee has harnessed her talents to inspire and give hope to others. An incredibly gifted Christian singer before her accident, Renee has augmented her gifts to include a dynamic speaking ability. Over the years, from the vantage point of her wheelchair, Renee has observed other people praising the Lord while enduring heavy, painful crosses. Digging deep into scripture to discover the origin of this profound joy, Renee saw clearly an often untapped tool that exists for all of us as followers of Christ. July 24 SPEAKERS: Kathleen Beckman TOPIC: God s Healing Mercy and Finding Your Path to Forgiveness, Peace and Joy Kathleen Beckman has served the Church for twenty-five years as a Catholic evangelist, Ignatian certified retreat director, radio host and author. A dynamic speaker, she's addressed clergy, seminarians, religious communities, and laity. Often featured on Catholic TV and radio outlets such as EWTN, and the Catholic Channel, she hosted the Radio Maria weekly program titled, "Eucharist, Mercy & Saints" for five years. She writes for Kathleen will show you how Divine Mercy can heal festering wounds and universally transform your life. You ll learn how to confront your weaknesses, and create a plan for letting God s mercy heal your heart and make straight your crooked ways.
