Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its worship and fellowship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a parish with a noble spirit, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. 8 Page 8 Third Sunday of Easter Religious Education 1 st COMMUNION PREPARATION for Children You may be wondering, When do I sign up my child for 1 st Communion? Preparation for the sacraments of RECONCILIATION (Confession) and EUCHARIST (Communion) begins in 1st grade and is a 2 year process. PUBLIC or PRIVATE SCHOOL Children who have been baptized and attend public or private school should be enrolled in their parish Religious Education program to begin the preparation. CATHOLIC SCHOOL Children who attend Catholic School enroll in their parish RE program in the child s 2nd year of school to prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. CHRISTIAN SCHOOL Parents of Catholic children who are enrolled in Christian School are expected to register their child in our religious education program and attend in their 2nd year for sacramental preparation. BAPTISM FOR CHILDREN AGE 7 OR OLDER Children who are not baptized and are 7 years old or older participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children. May Crowning and Rosary Wednesday May 4, 4-4:45 PM in Church During the Month of May -- a month both named for and dedicated to Mary -- Catholics have long honored Mary by placing a crown on her image. The tradition in the United States and many other countries has been for school children to have a "May Crowning" ceremony, with a procession, dress clothes and a wreath of fresh flowers that one child gets to place on the statue. Our 3rd & 4th Grade RE class invites you to join them as we honor Mary on Wednesday, May 4th from 4-4:45 PM with songs and prayers. 1st Communion children are encouraged to wear their 1st Communion outfits.
