2 THE BUTLER SERVES Over the past 40 years, I have not seen it all (by a long shot) but I have seen a good bit. The latest new thing has a way of becoming old news. This does not mean that the trendy stuff that is hot today does not have value. There is value in almost every emphasis and effort that is made under the heading of reaching people for Christ and maturing them in the faith. To date, my life and ministry in the local church have intersected with revivalism, bus ministry, the Bill Gothard seminars, sharing services, the Charismatic movement, evangelistic crusades, church prayer rooms, Total Church Life, Evangelism Explosion, the lay renewal movement, reformed theology, WIN Schools, Experiencing God, the church growth movement, contemporary worship, the growth spiral, and the cell church movement. I have watched from a distance, liberal theology, Gen X worship, the emerging church movement, Christian hedonism, seeker sensitive worship, the Prayer of Jabez, the Purpose Driven Church, the 40 Days of Purpose, the Puritan revival, and felt need preaching. Remember this: The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:8) And when it comes to ministry tools, here is where I am: Tools are tools! The key in selecting ministry tools and using them long-term is in taking great care to be sure that those tools selected are firmly based in Scripture and that they fit the life and culture of our church. But that is not all. The ministry tools selected must focus our efforts on the most important priorities facing our church today and tomorrow. Those most important priorities never change. They are evangelism and discipleship! FAITH Sunday School Evangelism Strategy is a magnificent organizational and training tool that we use today to keep ourselves engaged in personal evangelism. We keep sharing the Gospel with others while training fellow believers and we steadily win people to faith in Christ. If we ever find a better evangelism tool we will use it. It hasn t happened yet. So on we go with FAITH, stronger than ever, after 12 full years of FAITH. Another tool we use is JOURNEY One on One Discipleship. JOURNEY is huge for us. It is likely the biggest thing you might not know much about. You might not know much about it because if you are not a part of it, you do not see it at all. Because it is one on one and not large group, you do not see groups or gatherings. Currently, Dianne and I and about 70 other members are involved in JOURNEY One on One Discipleship and the count is growing. What FAITH Sunday School Evangelism Strategy is to personal evangelism in our church, JOURNEY is to discipleship. YOU SHOULD BECOME A PART OF OUR FAITH SUNDAY SCHOOL EVANGELISM STRATEGY AND OUR JOURNEY ONE ON ONE DISCIPLESHIP! You can join FAITH in our Fall semester, which starts in August. You can become a part of JOURNEY by contacting me ( ) or Lee Ann Lee ( ). In JOURNEY you will either be a disciple maker or a disciple. If you like, I will help you choose your best fit. But understand this: JOURNEY, like FAITH, is not a study course it is an ongoing strategy and process that is continuous. Having completed JOURNEY as either a disciple maker or as a disciple, you continue on by serving as a disciple maker for yet another disciple. We have a JOURNEY orientation about every 8 to 10 weeks. Watch for the next orientation and get on board with JOURNEY. God willing, we will be doing JOURNEY for a long, long time! Robin the Butler

Our ministry enables participants to bring their entire families to the conference the largest of its kind in North America. Glorieta is 25 miles northeast of beautiful Santa Fe, NM. If you are planning to go, or think you might be interested, be sure to attend the Informational Meeting to be held on Sunday, May 22 at noon in the FBC Fellowship Hall.
