1 Church Development Ministry 2015 Annual Report The Church Development Ministry (CDM) of our association encompasses a wide range of ministries, missions, evangelistic opportunities and equipping events. The main areas of the CDM are: Discipleship and Family Ministries, Men and Boys Ministries, Women and Girls Ministries, Disaster Relief Ministries, Music and Worship Ministries, Student Ministries, Senior Adult Ministries, and African American Church Planting. Equipping Men for Deacon Ministry On September 8, 2014, an Equipping Men for Deacon Ministry conference took place. The material covered many topics such as: role of a deacon in the church, the nominating/election process, duties of a deacon, and equipping the deacon for ministry in the church. The 34 attendees also received information on topics like Yokefellows, Reserve Deacons and how to conduct an effective Deacons meeting. State Missionary, Mike Jackson, lead this conference. Senior Adult Ministries On October 30, 2014 the Senior Adult Ministry held its annual Fall Fish Fry Fellowship at Camp Whispering Pines. The event was a great time of fellowship, fun, and food for associational Senior Adults and their guests. The speaker, and guest singer was Rev. Phil Romine. Over 150 Senior Adults from around the county heard the gospel message in song and word. We rejoice in the five decisions made during the event. Thank You to all the staff at Camp Whispering Pines for hosting this annual event. The MBA Senior Adult Ministry and Cottage Hill Baptist Church s 55+ Ministry jointly hosted the Senior Adult Friendship Luncheon on February 17, 2015 at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. Musical guests were The Nelons. The 400 seniors enjoyed great food, fellowship and the sharing of the Gospel message through song. Thank You Cottage Hill for hosting this event. Women and Girls Ministries The MBA Woman s Missionary Union held their annual Baptist Women s World Day of Prayer on November 6, The event was hosted by the Women s Ministry at Highpoint Baptist Church. The theme for this year s prayer time was In Step with the Spirit through Faithfulness. Dr. Mary S. Morton was the guest speaker. After the message, there was a prayer time. The participants prayed for the needs of Southern Baptist missionaries, pastors, staff and churches around the world. Thank You to the staff and congregation of Highpoint for hosting the event. 1 of 6

The associational Woman s Missionary Union held the WMU/Women s Ministry Annual Celebration on April 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Theodore.

The theme for this year s celebration was Serve for His Glory. During the celebration, participants approved the annual Addine Maynard and WMU Associational Budgets.

There were 21 association churches represented with 81 participants. The WMU presented the Girls Mission Camp at Camp Whispering Pines June 29 July 3, 2015.

2 The associational Woman s Missionary Union held the WMU/Women s Ministry Annual Celebration on April 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Theodore. The annual event was a time of fellowship, encouragement, prayer, praise and thanksgiving. The guest speaker was Candace McIntosh, Executive Director for the Alabama WMU. The theme for this year s celebration was Serve for His Glory. During the celebration, participants approved the annual Addine Maynard and WMU Associational Budgets. The ministry includes funding and staffing for Girls Mission Camp and Girls Winter Weekend, and other mission opportunities throughout the year. There were 21 association churches represented with 81 participants. The WMU presented the Girls Mission Camp at Camp Whispering Pines June 29 July 3, Forty-seven girls attended camp and had a great time. New this year was an outing for the girls to visit a Nursing Home and an Assisted Living Home in Citronelle. The girls enjoyed ministering to the residents. Amid all the camping fun, the campers and staff celebrated the 8 decisions for Christ that were made during the week. Sunday School Ministries On September 11, 2014 there were 11 College Sunday School leaders from 8 MBA churches at the Using Sunday School to Reach College Students conference. The 1.5 hour conference provided insights on what college students are seeking in a church and the Bible study program of the church. The annual Sunday School Banquet was held on January 27, 2015 at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. At the event MBA churches were recognized for their work in strengthening and building their Bible Study/Sunday School Outreach ministries. The special guest speaker was Dionne Williams, Associate Associational Missions Director for the Gulf Coast Baptist Association in Gulfport, Mississippi. The musical guest was Amy Dunnam. This year s theme was Journey Off the Map Unknown to Us, Known to Him. The scripture verse was Isaiah 30:21, Whether you turn to the left or to the right, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, this is the way; walk in it. A very special Thank You to the MBA VBS Team for giving of their time and talents. The team members trained and then equipped 114 church VBS workers for a great outreach ministry into their communities. Seventeen MBA churches and two other churches participated in the clinic. A special Thank You to the pastor, staff and members of Cottage Hill for hosting the event. As of August 31, 2015, from 30 churches that reported, there were 5,641 participants in VBS and 184 decisions for Christ. Men and Boys Ministries The annual RA Racer Tournament was held February 28, 2015 at Camp Whispering Pines. There were 28 participants. The winners are as follows: Race: Lads: Clark Busby (1 st ), Cooper Roberts (2 nd ), and Drew Little (3 rd ) Crusaders: Kole Busby (1 st ), Kade Busby (2 nd ), and Matthew Tate (3 rd ) Design: Lad- Jake McClain (1 st ), Trey Peryer (2 nd ), and Holt McClain (3 rd ) Crusaders- Gavin Matthews (1 st ), Jonah Blackwell (2 nd ), and Michael Tate (3 rd ) 3 of 6

The annual Men & Boys Wild Game Supper was held after the RA Racer Tournament at Camp Whispering Pines on February 28, 2015.

A special Thank You to the pastors, men & boys leaders, camp staff, and churches for their help with these two events.

A special Thank You goes to Derek Blackmon, MBA Challenger Basketball League Director, for coordinating the event locally.

We extend a special Thank You to the various churches that hosted the games throughout the season.

4 The annual Men & Boys Wild Game Supper was held after the RA Racer Tournament at Camp Whispering Pines on February 28, Fifty seven men and boys heard the Gospel presentation shared by local hunter and sports store owner, Scott Vernon. A special Thank You to the pastors, men & boys leaders, camp staff, and churches for their help with these two events. On February 13 & 14, 2015 the MBA Challenger Basketball Ministry concluded their season by hosting the State Challenger Basketball Ministry Finals here in Mobile. A special Thank You goes to Derek Blackmon, MBA Challenger Basketball League Director, for coordinating the event locally. During the season, there were approximately 21 teams, 250 parkcipants and 30 leaders. The league is only one way churches reach youth in their communities with the gospel message. We extend a special Thank You to the various churches that hosted the games throughout the season. Also, we thank all the church volunteers that led young men in spiritual learning and training throughout the season. On April 10 and 11, 2015 the Alabama Baptist State Convention held their annual statewide Disaster Relief Ministries Leadership Training weekend at Shocco Springs. There were 2 leaders from Mobile who attended the event. The MBA anticipates hosting several training courses in the future to train new DR Volunteers. Inter-Baptist Ministries On February 19, 2015 members of the state Inter-Baptist Fellowship, and leadership of the state Human Relations Conference met to finalize planning of several key upcoming interracial meetings. Also, the group is addressing two growing ministry challenges: developing and providing new forums to address the emerging needs of the millennials; and new forums to aid in the growth of understanding and ministry to, and with, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans. Pray for the leadership as they meet and seek God s guidance in these undertakings. 4 of 6

Discipleship and Family Ministries On March 31, 2015 the Discipleship and Family Ministries held the annual Bible Drill and Speakers Tournament. The event was at Cottage Hill Baptist Church.

Special guest, Kelly Jones, MBA Receptionist and Church Development Assistant taught the online program. These are just a few of the various ministries that make up the Church Development Ministry.

5 Discipleship and Family Ministries On March 31, 2015 the Discipleship and Family Ministries held the annual Bible Drill and Speakers Tournament. The event was at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. There were 24 children, 4 youth, 5 high schoolers and 2 speakers in the competition. Several went on to regionals and the state competition. The annual Church Clerks Conference was held on August 11, There were 40 Church Clerks and Ministry Assistants from 32 MBA churches in attendance. Carol Henderson, the MBA Administrative Assistant, led the conference. Special guest, Kelly Jones, MBA Receptionist and Church Development Assistant taught the online program. These are just a few of the various ministries that make up the Church Development Ministry. Followers of Jesus from all walks of life, ages, backgrounds and ethnic groups are ministering to friends, neighbors, co-workers and relatives across Mobile County and around the world. They are sharing the Good News of Jesus Love. A Special Thank You to all our Volunteers! No one person can do all of the ministry tasks in the association. It takes a team of very dedicated volunteers that are called by His Spirit, equipped by His Son and led by Him to accomplish His purposes. Thank You for following Him and using all He has given you to make an eternal impact in the lives of the people of Mobile, Alabama, USA, and the World. 5 of 6
