2 THE BUTLER SERVES Offering for Caleb and Jessica Camp On the Sundays of November 8 th and 15 th, we will be receiving a Sending offering for Caleb and Jessica Camp. Caleb and Jessica will be serving for the next two years as full time missionaries in Japan. Caleb and Jessica will be winning Japanese people to Christ, then working to make disciples of those won, while growing these people up together as a self-sustaining, self-governing local church capable of reproducing itself. This is hard work and God is leading them to a stubbornly difficult field of service. They need your constant prayers. They also need your financial support. The total cost of their relocation and resettlement in Japan is about $11,000. In addition, you may want to enlist with them to become continuing partners in their missionary service. The visas they will receive do not allow them to work at secular jobs, and that is not why they are going to live in Japan anyway. Consequently, they will also need continuing monthly support. Possibly you can pledge continuing monthly support. If you do so, do not neglect your commitment. Caleb and Jessica will not be serving as traditional Southern Baptist International Missionaries because they are connecting with a specific missionary ministry that itself cannot receive funds through our International Mission offerings. Those with whom they will serve are Southern Baptist in every way but funding. The church plant where they will be working is a Southern Baptist church. Caleb grew up in our church, faithfully living for Christ and serving Him. Jessica has come to serve on our church staff these past two years. We believe in Caleb and Jessica and trust God to use them greatly as they minister among unreached people groups. On Thursday, November 19 th this Sending offering will close, so be sure to give on or before that date. After that date, all mission giving will funnel into the Southern Baptist Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions that we receive each Christmas season. Caleb and Jessica can receive your pledges at any time. The Southern Baptist Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions For several years, our 45,000 Southern Baptist churches in the U. S. have collectively come up short in our primary International Missions offering. This Lottie Moon Offering provides 58% of the annual support for our more than 4,500 missionaries who are serving among unreached people groups around the world. Our International Mission Board is now in the process of calling home between 600 and 800 missionaries, because our churches are not providing the financial resources needed to keep them on the field. Our church has done well in our giving, year to year, to the Lottie Moon Offering. We have been recognized as a leader in this respect. Last year we gave $28,000. But frankly, we must do more, give more, so that more can go to the International Mission field and carry the gospel to unreached people groups. How much more? I do not know. I know that it costs $51,400 to keep one missionary serving on the International Mission Field for one year (includes salary, housing, transportation, children s education, retirement, medical expenses, training, and more). I think it all comes down to priorities. If giving presents to people who are almost buried beneath material things is your family s Christmas priority, then that is where the bulk of your Christmas giving will go. But, if carrying the message of the Gospel to a lost world that perishes without a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is your family s priority, maybe, just maybe, we can stop the materialistic insanity that has all but swallowed up the annual celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. So my question to you is this: What is your family s priority in the Christmas Season? Let s give like the salvation of mankind depends on our giving. Because it does!! Robin the Butler

6 CHURCHES UNITED IN CARING CUIC began in the early 1980's in a little rent house as a small food pantry, and soon added a thrift shop to handle the donations that were coming in. Several churches in the Crosby-Huffman area support CUIC, as do some businesses, organizations and individuals. There is a regular volunteer crew that is committed to working their scheduled day each week. Services offered include: food, assistance with some utility bills, gasoline, prescriptions, clothes and other items from the thrift shop. Thrift shop items are available at no cost to our clients as needed. Also, there are annual drives for school supplies, which are given to all Crosby and Huffman schools, and at Christmas for food vouchers and toys/gifts for children. CUIC has been in operation for more than 30 years, and God has richly blessed His work there. Volunteers come from the member churches, and there is a real need for more, especially interviewers! If you can volunteer for a few hours one day a week, please contact Lou Marek ( ), or just call Churches United in Caring at CUIC Christmas Toy Drive November 1 December 13 Each year Churches United In Caring gives food and gifts to qualifying families to help with Christmas. CUIC has asked for new age-appropriate items for babies to 14 years, but especially kids 9 years and older. Drop-off boxes will be around the church through December 13 th, where you may leave new toys and gifts (do not wrap items, please)! Suggested gifts: Bibles, story books, activity and coloring books, crayons or markers, toys, games, puzzles, sports equipment, Christian music CDs, family-friendly movies.
