The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe really believe that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. 3 Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday, at the 10:30am Mass, I had the opportunity to acknowledge publicly the 10 years of ministry here at O.L.A. on the part of Ann O Brien. Ann informed me in February that she wished to pass on the baton as Director of Religious Education as of July 1st. The secretary of the Office, Theresa Ferraioli, informed me that she, also, would hand over her responsibilities at the same time. I know that I speak for all the parents and students and for the other members of the Pastoral Staff when I say how grateful we all are for the loving concern and total dedication that has been displayed by these women of faith. We all wish them happiness and good health and are grateful that they will still be active parishioners. In the near future I will share with you the names of those who will continue this vital ministry here at O.L.A. On Friday of this week, June 15th, we will have the graduation mass at 10:30am and the graduation exercises at 4:00pm for Holy Angels Catholic Academy. All are welcome to attend either or both ceremonies. Graduation is a natural time to extend Congratulations not only to the graduates themselves but, also, to their parents, Mrs. Rosemarie McGoldrick and the faculty, and to Mr. Michael Long and the members of the Board of Directors. I am grateful to all for their dedication to the religious and academic formation of our children and the work involved. We will have our picnic this coming Saturday, June 16th, at 1:30pm. As we did last year, the 5:00pm mass and the 6:30pm mass will become a bilingual mass at 6:00pm followed by dessert for all attendees. The mass intentions will be announced and satisfied by the concelebrants. Next Sunday, June 17th, will be Father s Day and the Father s Day Novena will begin that day. As you can see from the latest figures from the Annual Catholic Appeal, we have 204 donors so far. Can you imagine how well we will do if more parishioners make a pledge or outright gift? Remember, for every $ paid the donor will have a chance at a widescreen TV and a second prize of a $ gift certificate to Chadwick s Restaurant. Let s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone P.S. Learn more at SING FOR HOPE CONCERT SCHEDULE The Shore Road Parks Conservancy is delighted to accept one of the 50 pianos being distributed throughout the five boroughs by Sing for Hope, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring neighborhoods together around the shared gift of music and art. Each piano is decorated by visual artists who have donated their time and talent to creating unique and beautiful designs. The site of the piano donated to the conservancy is Shore Road and 90th Street. It will remain under the gazebo at that location from June 6th to June 25th for all to enjoy. The piano will be locked in the evenings and during inclement weather. Several concerts have been lined up. we encourage you to bring a beach chair and gather around the gazebo for an enjoyable experience.
