Yet it s no exaggeration to say that humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world s crops and livestock. This week s scriptures remind us that Jesus was as rejected as a shepherd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to him. In this Sunday s reading from the Acts of the Apostles Peter tells the people that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected. In John s letter we hear that we have become God s beloved children through Jesus, whom the world did not know. Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11). Will you join Jesus in laying down your life for God s beloved flock? 3 Dear Parishioners, Next weekend, April 28th and 29th, I will be conducting the solicitation for the Annual Catholic Appeal at all the masses. If you have already received material from the Campaign Office, you may return it by mail or you may place it in the collection basket and the parish will mail it in bulk. Your generosity in the Annual Catholic Appeal helps the Diocese maintain many services in many neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Thank you to all who already participated with a gift or pledge. When a parish reaches its goal, it begins to work for itself. Everything over the goal comes back to the parish. Because we surpassed our 2017 goal, we were given the sum of $14,000 which I used to pay some parish bills which is much better than taking money from the parish s reserves. Today we will bless the time capsule that will be placed in our tower as the final event of our 125th Anniversary. The blessing will take place after the 10:30am mass and all are invited to witness this historic event in our parish s life. I hope we will finally experience spring very soon. Una Reflexión Para Nuestro Tiempo No podemos dormimos en los laureles, ni conformarnos con saludar con sombrero ajeno, afirmando que el papa Francisco es una persona humilde, que acoge con calidez y apertura a cuantos buscan respuestas a sus problemas y situaciones personales. Sin duda alguna, que el papa Francisco es un sorprendente regalo de Dios para su Iglesia. Bajo el modelaje del Señor Jesús, el obispo de Roma esta viviendo como pastor modelo. Cualquier cristiano consagrado o laico que desempeñe algún ministerio pastoral, sea en la parroquia o en su familia, esta siendo desafiado por este testimonio creíble: Dios sigue acompañando a su Iglesia y sin que sepamos exactamente como lo hace, sigue suscitando pastores creíbles, que se desprenden de su tiempo, sus privilegios y prejuicios para servir y dar la vida por sus ovejas.
