1 FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Covington, TN May 25, 2016 A Bi-Monthly Publication FIVE PRACTICES CHALLENGES At the conclusion of our latest sermon series, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, I offered a challenge to five people from each service to put the sermon on the talents into practice. Each volunteer was given $20 and asked to multiply it by June 12 th. The proceeds would then go to a ministry which replicates their area of fruitful practice. During worship on Sunday, June 12 th, we will hear or see part of their experiences. Here is a list of their fruitful practice, project, and beneficiary. I hope you will support them: Joey Caldwell- Passionate Worship. He will be selling artwork created by children of FUMC and the Boys & Girls Club. Donations for FUMC artwork will benefit Grace Place. Sales of Boys & Girls Club artwork will provide scholarships for the summer program at the Boys & Girls Club. The suggested $40 per piece will sponsor one child for the program. joeygc@aol.com or call Tommy Fullen- Radical Hospitality. He will be offering legal advice to food pantry participants with a donation to benefit the Good Samaritan Fund. tommy@tommylfullen.com or call Ron Leyvas- Risk Taking Mission and Service. He will be holding a car wash Saturday, June 11 th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CLC to benefit Grace Place. Call or jlleyvas@hotmail.com. Marti Locke- Risk Taking Mission and Service. She is having a bake sale in the Christian Life Center, Saturday June 4 th in conjunction with the rummage sale to benefit Eric Soard ministries in Tanzania. martilocke@yahoo.com or call Houston Moss- Radical Hospitality. He is working with the youth for A Clear Change clean water mission. People are asked to substitute bottled water for tap water and drink water instead of soda. The money that would have been spent on bottled water or soda can be placed in envelopes provided by the youth. Call Houston at Liz Newman- Extravagant Generosity. She will be holding a rummage sale in the Christian Life Center, Saturday June 4 th to benefit Grace Place and UMCOR. choreldy@aol.com or call Phyllis Richmond- Passionate Worship. She is raising money for the Union Mission in Memphis by selling baked goods. You can call her at Tom and Lisa Rogers- Radical Hospitality. They will be doing activities to benefit Grace Place. nliberty@aol.com or call Marlyn Seagrave- Intentional Faith Development. She has multiplied her giving by buying yarn for prayer shawls, helping a lady with gasoline for her vehicle and donating to Grace Place. John Wood- Intentional Faith Development. He is selling his world famous Jelly Rolls to benefit underprivileged children in Colombia, South America through an organization called Colombia Kids. For more information jdwood@utm.edu. Excited to see the fruit that will be produced from the seeds being planted! For more information, to donate or volunteer to help with these projects, please contact the individuals listed above.
