1 FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Covington, TN June 14, 2017 A Bi-Monthly Publication WITH GRATITUDE: Three years have flown by. We have shared life and love, loss and celebrations. God s presence and peace has sustained us and his hope has called us forward. I stand before you a better pastor and better person because of our time together. You have made me stronger in my faith convictions, more confident in my preaching and teaching, more aware of outreach to the neighborhood, and more compassionate in pastoral care. I have followed so many of your examples as we have learned to be disciples who lead others to Christ and love through service. Your generosity and willingness to make the Kingdom of God more of a reality in Tipton County has touched my heart and encouraged my spirit. We have loved being a part of this community of faith and the wider Covington community. Now, the time has come to say good-bye. Part of me will always be here, and we will take part of you with us! May you stay strong in the faith, continue to grow and make new disciples, and love your neighbor as yourself. You have the right leader in Rev. Dan Camp. May you welcome him and Lane and love on them as you have my family and me. I remind you that as of June 20, I will no longer be your pastor and please give Dan the privilege to share with you in pastoral care needs, funerals, weddings, and other occasions. I will always be a friend in Christ and will be praying for you, but Dan will need to be the one to walk alongside you. I close with Paul s words in Philippians 1, I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Lead on! Your fellow servant in Christ, Wade P.S. Thank you for the many expressions of kindness you have shared with Susan, Davis, Brooke, and me over the past several weeks. You have honored and blessed us. We wish to honor each of you and have offered a gift to the Van Fund of the church for many happy trails ahead! Pastoral Staff Rev. 5 MEMPHIS ANNUAL CONFERENCE REPORT by Melissa Mitchell This year's Annual Conference was hosted by the wonderful people at Collierville United Methodist Church. During our three days together, we participated in five worship services and two teaching sessions. We heard reports and voted on motions and amendments. You can read more about those activities online at the Memphis Annual Conference website, or ask Helene Kramer, Beth Lockhart, Philip Sigler or myself and we would be happy to tell you more. But what I would like to share with you in this report are my impressions as a first-time lay delegate. Our theme was "Sent to Serve God and Neighbor" and every message we heard encouraged us to go out and share the light of Christ in the world. I have a better understanding now of how the United Methodist Church is structured, organized, and governed. I honestly thought the business portion of the conference would be boring (don't tell anyone) but it wasn't. It was interesting. I was impressed with our Bishop each time he spoke to us and I found his messages to be inspiring. He is sincere in his desire for us to do the work of Jesus in our communities. Doing the work of the church is not an easy business but I felt everyone gathered at Annual Conference cares deeply for God and the people in our churches. While we may not all necessarily agree on specific points of action, it was still evident that everyone present was dedicated to discerning God's will for our conference. One of the best parts of being at the conference was the time spent getting to know the other delegates better. We don't get to spend enough time together just talking, eating, and sharing our lives together. Conference gave me the opportunity to do that and it is priceless. I wasn't raised in a Methodist Church, but I have never been more proud to be a member of the United Methodist Church than I am now, after being a part of the Annual Conference and hearing about all the ways we are reaching the world for Christ. You should go. FAREWELL TO REV. WADE COX AND WELOME REV. DAN CAMP Rev. Wade Cox s last Sunday to preach will be June 18 th. Sunday, June 25 th, will be Mission Witness Sunday featuring the following speakers: Youth about the Collide Mission trip; Gail Ganier on the Good Samaritan Outreach Ministry; Emily Lewis, intern and Rev. Renee Dillard, Director for Project Transformation. Rev. Dan Camp will be here Sunday, July 2 nd. A reception to welcome Rev. Camp and his wife, Lane, will be held Sunday, July 9 th in the Fellowship Hall following the 11:00 a.m. service. 5
