1 FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Covington, TN April 11, 2018 A Bi-Monthly Publication Dear Church Family, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been involved in confirmation class for the past three months. There are too many names to thank individually so I'm going to group them all together, but please know that I appreciate you all so much individually! Thanks to the weekly speakers, the mentors, the adults and high schoolers that went on retreats with us, those that helped prepare the banquet, and all those involved in coordinating the confirmation church service. A special thank you to Beth Lockhart and Joey Caldwell for helping organize and facilitate confirmation and being active leaders in the class each week. Also, a special thank you to the parents and families that have been praying for and supporting each confirmand as they have been growing in their faith this year! We are so proud of our young folks that were part of the service this past Sunday, and their decision to confirm their faith and make it their own. This year's confirmation class consisted of Alanna Alston, Aubrey Billings, Lilah Carter, Laurin Cromwell, Rylee Ford, Porter Hughes, Will Hughes, Emma Leigh Lockhart, Alice Sigler, Ben Smith, and Christopher Smith. Each of these students are amazing young men and women and God uses them so much in their schools, churches, and families. We are proud of your decision to join the congregation of First United Methodist Church, and look forward to growing in the Spirit alongside each of you! And finally, I want to thank you, church family, for your dedication and commitment to raise the youth and children of our church. You have an important role in their faith formation, and if there is one thing I have been constantly reminded of throughout Confirmation Class this year is that it takes an entire village to raise a young person. Jackson Anthony Gardner was born April 3 rd at 3:51 a.m. He weighed 8 lbs., 2 oz. Proud parents are Jacob and Beth Gardner. Grandparents are Lauren Enzor, Wanda Gardner, and Tony and Debbie Gardner. Great grandfather is Bill Enzor. HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION SUNDAY Graduating high school seniors will be recognized during Traditional Worship at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 6 th. Pictures are needed for a slide show that will be shown that day. Please submit five childhood pictures including a senior picture to Andrew Davis at ajdavis915@gmail.com by May 3 rd. Graduates are Micah Bricco, Tommy Flanagan, Summer Jones, Zach McCraine, Quentin Morris, Maddie Pugh, Lauren Smith and Katelyn Stewart. 4 PALM SUNDAY AND EASTER Palm Sunday and Holy Week were a time of reflection as we relived the week leading up to Jesus crucifixion and resurrection. The congregation was blessed through dramatic readings and special music. Easter Sunday s sunrise service at Mt. Carmel began a day of joyous celebration. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16 Thank you to all of the United Methodist Women who helped make the Holy Week luncheon a success. From shopping, to cooking, serving and cleanup, it would not have happened without you! Dr. Harry Durbin, David Kabakoff, and Kristi Owens will be on hand Wednesday, May 2, in the Fellowship Hall to provide vital information pertaining Golden Cross Ministries. This information is of great significance to senior citizens and those of us who will soon be in that category. The evening s itinerary: 5:00 - meet and greet 5:30 - dinner 6:00 - program 4

5 MISSION TRIP TO COLUMBIA John Wood and Tom Rogers will be going on a mission trip to Cartagena, Colombia. John grew up in Cali, Colombia where his parents were missionaries. A Methodist pastor who served in Cali is now serving in Cartagena. He has a growing ministry for marginalized children. John and Tom will visit to see how we can best support this children s ministry. They are looking for 18 individuals/couples to donate $100 each. They will be contacting you soon. She disclosed that she was gainfully employed and providing a home for herself and her three-month old son. She also stated that although not married, the child s father had an active role in the child s life, providing care and financial support. During the interview process, she also revealed her son was a twin; less than three weeks earlier, his brother had unexpectedly died in his sleep. At this point the young mother began to cry and very quietly simply said - It was the very worst day of my life. I cannot even begin to imagine the depths of her pain. What should have been a time of great joy, and expectation, had suddenly turned into a time of tragedy and immense grief. With the unimaginable loss came lost wages and costly funeral expenses, all leading to the current financial struggle. Your continued generosity to the Good Samaritan fund enables the ministry to provide financial assistance to those in need. Those that serve with the Samaritan ministry provided compassion, spiritual support, and continued prayers. We are blessed to be a blessing. 7

Lakeshore is now accepting registration for 2018 Summer camps. Many different camps are being offered for children ages 5 and up.
