2 At the close of today s service, the Lord s Supper will be celebrated in the Baldwin hallway to the right. Immediately following communion, a service of prayer for healing will be held in the same location. The service consists of prayers for healing and wholeness, with anointing and laying on of hands. All are invited. The congregation is asked to remain prayerfully or meditatively silent during the prelude. The Chapel welcomes families with children; if at any time during the service your child needs a place for active play, please utilize the nursery in the basement of Baldwin. Today s Guest Preacher This morning we welcome the Rev. Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove as Peter J. Gomes Guest Preacher. Mr. Wilson-Hartgrove is a celebrated spiritual author and founder of School for Conversion, a Durhambased popular education program working to interrupt the new Jim Crow s school-to-prison pipeline by making surprising friendships possible. Mr. Wilson-Hartgrove lives with his family and friends at the Rutba House, a hospitality house in Durham s Walltown neighborhood. Today s Guest Lectors Today s lectors are participants in the Walltown Aspiring Youth program. The WAY is a team-based after-school mentoring program serving middle school aged girls and boys in Durham s Walltown neighborhood. Since it began in 2010, the WAY has provided a uniquely comprehensive mentoring program to local youth who may not otherwise have healthy or productive afterschool activities. Using a holistic approach to personal development that includes physical, social, academic, and spiritual needs, the WAY seeks to meet basic needs, empower youth leaders, and connect students with asset-based community development. New Chapel Staff Member A new position has been created for the restoration year at Duke Chapel to fill the gap that the Rev. Meghan Benson leaves behind. Jack Adams will fill this interim position of Worship Coordinator. Mr Adams immigrated to North Carolina from London, England in January 2015, to be with his wife, Jess, who is a Duke Divinity student. After studying Theology at King s College, London, he worked in various ministry roles at two London churches, as well as at the headquarters of the Church of England in Westminster. Mr. Adams has recently become a member of the Anglican Church in North America and he and his wife live in Canterbury House, an intentional Christian community, where he is exploring a call to ordained ministry. In his spare time, Mr. Adams loves to be outside; be it hiking, photographing wildlife, tending his vegetable garden, or playing with his mischievous dachshundbeagle, Smoky. He is slowly adjusting to the Carolina heat!

Summer Christian Education Weekly Christian education is offered on Sunday mornings from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Biddle Music Building. New participants are welcome any time. Saturday Service Project Volunteers are needed on Saturday, June 13, from 10:00 a.m. to noon to assist the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham in moving, organizing, and cleaning the space they use in Shepherd s House UMC, 107 N Driver St., Durham. 11 PathWays Interns chapel.duke.edu/community/pathways The PathWays Summer Internship is designed for Duke undergradates interested in exploring their callings as Christians while living in community in the Isaiah House (an intentional Christian community focused on hospitality in East Durham) and through employment in Durham nonprofit, government, faith-based, and ministry settings. The internship lasts eight weeks (June-July) and includes daily morning prayer, weekly discernment dinners, theological writing and reflection, service opportunities, and a mid-summer retreat. Xiating Chen, PathWays Chapel Scholar, Pratt 17 Xiating is a rising junior from Guangzhou, China. Besides pursuing a major in environmental engineering, she is involved with the Presbyterian Campus Ministry and various musical groups on campus, including Duke Chorale and Hoof n Horn. This summer, Ting is looking forward to working with Kidznotes, a local non-profit organization that is devoted to social change through music education. She is very grateful for this opportunity to build further relationship with different communities in Durham and to hear God s calling. Joshua Kamrass, PathWays Chapel Scholar, Trinity 16 Josh is from Denver, CO. He is studying Physics and Philosophy with a minor in Mathematics. He is a leader within Duke Asian InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and a Chapel Scholar. This summer he is looking forward to interning with Mosaic Church, a local church focused on being a multi-ethnic community that is a witness to God s love for all people throughout Durham and the world.
