1 Service of Worship Fifth Sunday after Pentecost June 19, 2016 Eleven o clock in the morning Bridging Faith and Learning Jesus, the Gerasene, and the Unclean Spirits, by Luke the Cypriot, ca In this morning s Gospel passage, we see Jesus commanding his full authority over the powers of evil. A demon-possessed man has been viciously tormented and driven from his community, but Jesus orders the demons to release him. The man is healed, and Jesus gives him the dignity of clothing and conversation. This miracle terrifies the crowd, who ask Jesus to leave. As Paul writes to the Galatians, we are all invited to clothe ourselves with Christ, who is unafraid to reach out and love us, whoever we are.
2 At the close of today s service, the Lord s Supper will be celebrated in the Memorial Chapel located to the left of the chancel. Immediately following Communion, a service of prayer for healing will be held in the same location. The service consists of prayers for healing and wholeness with anointing and laying on of hands. All are invited. The congregation is invited to reflect silently during the prelude as a time of prayer and meditation. The Chapel welcomes families with children. If at any time during the service your child needs a place for active play, please know there is a nursery in the Chapel basement.
