1 Service of Worship Third Sunday of Easter April 10, 2016, Page Auditorium Eleven o clock in the morning Bridging Faith and Learning The Miraculous Catch of 153 Fish, by Duccio di Buoninsegna, ca. 14th Century. In today s Gospel passage, the resurrected Jesus makes another appearance to his disciples. Jesus reveals himself through a joyful repeat of a miraculous catch of fish, with Peter diving into the water to reach his risen Lord. Jesus prepares breakfast for his friends, eating and drinking alongside them. He also lovingly restores Peter, who had denied him three times. The passage ends with Jesus challenging them and us to follow him wherever he leads.

2 At the close of today s service, the Lord s Supper will be celebrated in Page Auditorium by the seats at the front left of the stage, in front of the organ. Immediately following Communion, a service of prayer for healing will be held in the same location. The service consists of prayers for healing and wholeness with anointing and laying on of hands. All are invited. During the prelude the congregation is asked to remain prayerfully or meditatively silent. The Chapel welcomes families with children; if at any time during the service your child needs a place for active play, please utilize the nursery in the Box Office on the second floor of Page. Today s Guest Preacher The Rev. Sarah Jobe is an ordained Baptist minister currently serving with Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women as a Chaplain at North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women. Rev. Jobe was the founding director of Project TURN, a partnership program of Duke Divinity School that offers seminary education inside North Carolina prisons. She is currently pursuing her ThD at Duke in Practical Theology and Hebrew Bible. Rev. Jobe lives with her husband and two daughters at the Rutba House, an intentional Christian community of hospitality, discipleship, and peacemaking in Durham. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, painting, and hanging out around a fire. Guest Choir Today we welcome back Something Borrowed, Something Blue to help lead us in worship. Originally founded in 1969, they are Duke University s co-ed Christian a cappella group, performing a wide variety of songs to communicate the love of Christ. Verdi Requiem This afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Page Auditorium, the Duke Chapel Choir will perform Giuseppe Verdi s monumental Requiem, together with the Duke Chorale, the Choral Society of Durham s Chamber Choir, a large professional orchestra, and professional soloists. Because Verdi used his typical Romantic Italian operatic style in setting the text of the traditional Requiem Mass, this piece has been described as a stunning intersection of the sacred and secular. Archives Exhibit A new exhibit focusing on the history and legacy of Duke Chapel is now on display in the Chappell Family Gallery near the entrance of Perkins Library. Back Pew Collection Donations this month will support Families Moving Forward, which offers a temporary home to families in the crisis of homelessness. Current needs include new bed sheets (full and twin size), pillow cases, and pillows, as well as bottled water, cooking and eating utensils, and new or gently used sports equipment such as basketballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, ball pumps, and outdoor games. Please bring your contributions to the box in the lower lobby of Page Auditorium today or April 17. One More Habitat Work Day Volunteers are needed for the last Chapel and Congregation group work day on Saturday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please sign up online at org (click Use Reservation Code, then enter DUC ) to be part of building a new home at 1113 Spruce Street in Durham. Provide a Family Meal Volunteers are needed Tuesday, April 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to provide an evening meal for 4-5 formerly homeless families (17-20 people) at Families Moving Forward. Various volunteers will bring the food, set up for supper, eat with the families, and clean up. Some volunteers will then stay to supervise children s activities (ages 0-5) while the parents attend a mentoring or educational session.
