FOR OUR LITTLEST LAMBS: It is our joy as a congregation to have these little ones in our midst during worship; but it is hard for these precious souls to sit all the way through the service. The Preschool Room is located at the end of the hall near the east entrance is available for them. Speakers are on so that you, the parents, can still listen to the sermon; if you find the door lock or the speakers not working, contact one of the ushers. ALSO bathrooms are located in the hallway near the east entrance. An elevator going down to the basement is located by the west entrance. Emergency exits are located in the narthex at both east and west side of the building and also at the front of the church on the left. NEED LARGE PRINT OR UNFAMILIAR WITH OUR HYMNAL: Our ushers have worship folders available for your use; you may simply request a copy from the ushers; and HEARING ASSISTING RECEIVERS are available, just ask one of the ushers for one. LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR: Pentecost XI (Proper 13B) Crafty deceitfulness tosses many about concerning life issues (Ephesians 4:14). Christians see more than debates and regulations. At stake are safety and eternity for members of our one body in Christ (4:16). For their sake we speak and show truth in love (4:15) according to our Godgiven vocations (4:11-12). We take courage that it changes hearts and saves lives even if we suffer for it (4:1). Bread of Life, build us into a body of hope. Amen. Mid-Week Stewardship Thought God Works through Us J. Hudson Taylor wrote, God s work done in God s way will never lack God s supply. The message from this statement is that God has given His people all the material and spiritual resources needed to accomplish His purposes. When we do God s will, He will supply, through us, all the resources that are needed for His Church (2 Corinthians 9:10-11). He wants us to be His channels through which the gifts needed for His work will flow. By God s grace, we can be faithful stewards who willingly share our gifts for God s work. 4

5 Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you were called. The callings we have from the Lord are our vocations. Here Paul talks about our vocation as Christian. We are called to be His people and to reflect His love, generosity, and peace within the Church. Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to you as a humble grateful servant who gives You praise and thanks for who You are and all that You have done and continue to do for me. Show me my sin, that I might repent and be restored to fellowship with You through the blood of Jesus. Help me to know the work which You have laid before me. FROM CONCORDIA PUBLISHING HOUSE (cph.org ) God s Word is filled with paradoxes. It s tempting to see these paradoxes as either-or statements one must be true and the other must be false. End of story. Case closed. But the paradoxes in the Word of God are different. They are both-and statements, at once seeming contradictory but both being wholly and completely true. As Christians, we live in this tension, embracing that two sides of the same coin can be true at the same time. We live in what is visible and invisible. We have the old man and the new man. We speak to those offered both an inclusive and an exclusive Gospel. We are citizens of both church and state. We live in the now and the not yet. We speak a Word that is both Law and Gospel. FAITH THAT SEES THROUGH THE CULTURE provides lenses to evaluate and bring clarity to these paradoxes. These lenses, when focused, aligned, and coordinated, open whole new vistas for faith to see more clearly and be lived out more effectively in our culture. VBS this year was a success and the children all had a good time. We went from 9 am to 10:30 am with a little run over a couple of days due to the craft we were working on. The songs were pretty good this year and all enjoyed listening to them. We had about 50 students this year all told. A pretty good turnout we thought. We will be looking online at next year s VBS in the next couple of months and will be reporting on that in the near future.
