GEORGE POULOS INSTALLED AS GLORIA DEI'S SENIOR PASTOR The Gloria Dei Lutheran Church family gathered for one Divine Service on the weekend of Sunday, March 15, in order to receive God's gifts of Word and Sacrament and, as guest preacher the Rev. Marcus Zill proclaimed, receive from God the gift of a new Pastor. Since the congregation's Call of Pastor Poulos to a new Divine Call as Senior- Administrative Pastor, Rev. Zill remarked that "while he has been pastor to you already, to some of you for a decade, the congregation's new Call invokes the reminder that with God's Call, the congregation receives a "new gift" even though he has been with you for a while! 2 In order to maximize congregational participation in the Divine Service and Celebration luncheon that followed, Gloria Dei's elected leadership determined that the Rite of Installation should take place during the regular Divine Service of the Congregation. Representing President Greg Walton of the Florida-Georgia District was the Rev. Charles Scott Gress, member of the District Staff, who conducted the Rite of Installation. The preacher for the Divine Service was the Rev. Marcus Zill of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Staff, Director of Campus Ministry and LCMS-U. His stirring sermon titled "Serpent on a Stick" was a powerful reminder for Pastor and Congregation to point a dying world to our Savior Jesus Who alone is the Eternal Cure from everlasting death apart from God to Eternal Live with God through Jesus Christ. The Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Lutheran Men's Group of Gloria Dei provided the leadership in service and provisions for the marvelous luncheon that followed the Divine Service. The congregation demonstrated international flair with many of the unique "pot luck" dishes provided for all to enjoy. Pastor Poulos originally came to Gloria Dei through the historic merger of St. Mark's-Hollywood with Gloria Dei in August of Throughout his 31 years of ordained ministry, Pastor Poulos has served Florida congregations in Pinecrest, Miami, North Miami, Hollywood and Davie.

4 NEW PARAMENTS AND VESTMENTS BLESSED The Divine Service on Saturday evening, March 28, included the unique opportunity to celebrate the Rite of Blessings for new Altar Paraments and Vestments for use at Gloria Dei. Through the generous donations of memorial gifts designated by Marina Clotfelter in memory of our Gloria Dei member, Joseph "Joe" Clotfelter, Jr., ( ) the beautifully crafted paraments and vestments were displayed for all members to see before and after the Divine Service. The two distinct sets, one "Scarlet," the other "Rose" were hand crafted by artisans at "Gaspard" in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

5 THE RITE OF BLESSING FOR NEW PRAYER SHAWLS Over the course of many years, hundreds of people have enjoyed receiving "prayer shawls" from those dedicated to this ministry at Gloria Dei. The Prayer Shawl Ministry provides opportunities for those who have the gift of being able to crochet or knit to put their skills to use along with praying for members of our congregation who have special needs. Pastor Poulos, Elders, or congregants deliver "prayer shawls" to people in hospitals, nursing homes and shut ins. In addition, special "prayer shawls" are designed and crafted for newborns and children, also presented in hospitals or at baptisms. When a prayer shawl is delivered, a record of name and facility is given to the prayer shawl team in order they may pray more specifically for the recipient of the shawl. In order to keep the congregation informed of this ministry, the "Rite of Blessing" for new prayer shawls is designated for any month of the year with a "5th Sunday." On March 29, the newest completed prayer shawls were displayed, and the Rite of Blessing administered along with blessings for members of the prayer shawl team present at the 10:30 a.m. Divine Service.
