2 As We Gather As tempted as we are to believe that we somehow earn or merit God's kindness, we cannot escape the meaning of mercy. God comes to us out of love and it is His love that forgives our sins, invites us into His presence, and embraces our burdens as His own. Mercy takes many forms, but it comes in the one person--- Jesus Christ, our Lord! Prayer upon entering church Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. (Psalms 51:14-17) Preparation for communion LSB 329 Who can come to communion? Those belonging to an L.C.M.S. congregation are welcomed and encouraged to partake of the Lord s Supper with us. We do care about the spiritual wellbeing of all those present, but ask that you please refrain out of love for this fellowship and speak with the pastor or elder prior to the service. Catechism Review How often are we to receive the sacrament? (Field Test Catechism Question #334) Christ has not specified a particular timetable but invites us to come often to this Sacrament on account of the gifts He bestows here and our own great need. In the New Testament, the Sacrament was a regular and major feature of congregational worship, not an occasional extra (Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:20, 33). In Reformation times our church celebrated the Sacrament every Lord s Day and on other festivals (Ap XXIV, 1). 4 11th Sunday After Pentecost August 20, 2017 Introit The LMNO is the strength of his people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- nointed. To you, O LMNO, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me,* lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help,* when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctu- ary. Blessèd be the LMNO!* for he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The LMNO is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;* my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the be- ginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. Collect of the Day Almighty and everlasting Father, You give Your children many blessings even though we are undeserving. Gradual Fear the LMNO, you his saints,* for those who fear him lack nothing! Many are the afflictions of the righteous,* but the LMNO delivers him out of them all.

5 Isaiah 56:1, 6-8 Thus says the LMNO: Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed. And the foreigners who join themselves to the LMNO, to minister to him, to love the name of the LMNO, and to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. The Lord GMO, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares, I will gather yet others to him besides those already gathered. Romans 11:1-2a, 13-15, I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew...now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them. For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?...as regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. Matthew 15:21-28 Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon. But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying out after us. He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she came and knelt before him, saying, Lord, help me. And he answered, It is not right to take the children s bread and throw it to the dogs. She said, Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters table. Then Jesus answered her, O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire. And her daughter was healed instantly Prayer of the Church Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. (Each petition concludes with the pastor saying Let us pray to the Lord and the congregation responding, Lord have mercy. )

7 How do I become a part of things at Trinity? We are always happy to welcome and receive new faces at our congregation. Most activities are open to all whether you are member or non-member. If you would like to learn more about the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or are considering membership please talk with the pastor. Members of other LCMS congregation may join by transfer. PORTALS OF PRAYER: The Tr inity LWML has a box in the narthex for gathering USED Portals of Prayers. We will distribute them to various locations for others to read. God bless you for your support. With Much Gratefulness: Amy and I are thankful for the generosity shown toward updating the floor in the parsonage by the congregations. It took a few days for Carpet One to get the job done and lots of furniture moving in the evening hours, but well worth the effort! Trinity LWML: The evening circle will not meet on Wednesday, August 30. Their meeting will resume on October. Please note to correction from the monthly calendar. Confirmation Notice: Those in confirmation last year , please return your Bible History books to the church. Reusing these books for future years helps to cut down on the cost. Reminder: Thrivent members to check their Thrivent ChoiceDollar accounts. Many have received an extra $50 in designation funds. The extra $50 will only be available until Aug. 31 or until $8 million is designated. Fundraiser & Benefit: A benefit & fundraiser for Mark & Cindy Tusa will be held at Ashley Park from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 2. 8 Ingathering for School Supplies-2017 The Trinity LWML is having an ingathering of school supplies for the Back-to -School Drive which will be to help provide school supplies for children who are unable to purchase all the items they need. We will be providing school supplies for Immanuel Lutheran School in Lakefield. You can help by placing items in the designated Back-to-School Drive Box located in the narthex. A list of items needed is displayed by the box. Supplies will be collected until today, Sunday, August 20 th. Thank you for your support.
