RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP REGISTER: We thank you for the faithful use of the Red Register Booklet in the pews; please continue to record your name; attendance at communion and also pass the booklet to your neighbor; this can be done before the service begins, during the offering or at the end of the service. Our Visitors are encouraged to sign Red Booklet also. And if you would like us to make contact with you, please include your address and phone number. FOR OUR LITTLEST LAMBS: It is our joy as a congregation to have these little ones in our midst during worship; but it is hard for these precious souls to sit all the way through the service. The Preschool Room is located at the end of the hall near the east entrance is available for them. Speakers are on so that you, the parents, can still listen to the sermon; if you find the door lock or the speakers not working, contact one of the ushers. ALSO bathrooms are located in the hallway near the east entrance. An elevator going down to the basement is located by the west entrance. Emergency exits are located in the narthex at both east and west side of the building and also at the front of the church on the left. Construction on the bathrooms has begun. Follow the instructions on the signs. NEED LARGE PRINT OR UNFAMILIAR WITH OUR HYMNAL: Our ushers have worship folders available for your use; you may simply request a copy from the ushers; and HEARING ASSISTING RECEIVERS are available, just ask one of the ushers for one. LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR: Lent I Satan goaded Jesus to produce physical proof of His identity and importance (Luke 4:3). But God s promise and power entitled Him to life even in the absence of bread (Luke 4:4). The evil one still insists we gauge a person by material measures. Thanks to our Savior, no one s age, appearance, or ability can impair or improve their sanctity. God s creating, redeeming, and calling Word already renders every human being precious. Mid-Week Stewardship Thought Tapping into God s Strength Peter really meant it when he promised loyalty to his Lord: Even if I have to die with You, I will never disown you (Mark 14:31). We mean it, too, when we make promises to God: I ll give more when I get that promotion. I ll serve on that committee when the kids get older. I ll go to visit that homebound parishioner next week. And like Peter we suffer anguishing pangs of conscience when we fail. But we have no high priest who unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have One Who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus, our High Priest, has made that ultimate sacrifice to take away our sin and stands ready to strengthen us for His service. Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered him, It is written Isn t it interesting that Jesus does not defeat Satan with His power as God but rather by His perfect obedience in His perfect humanity? Jesus defeats Satan not by miracles but by quoting the Scriptures and living according to it. This should cause us great joy for two reasons. First, because we see Jesus win the victory for us. Second, because here Jesus shows us how to stand in that victory on the Word of God alone. Let us build our lives on the sure rock of this Word! Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for loving me in spite of the poor choices that I make continually. I so often do what I shouldn t do and don t do what I should be doing. I thank You for Your sacrifice that forgives me for my sinful ways. Empower me, Lord, to do Your will. Open my eyes and heart to opportunities to serve and help others. Amen.
