LIFE THOUGHTS IN THE CHURCH YEAR: Pentecost XXIV (Proper 26B) We get to love God not only in spirit but in the person of our neighbors (Mark 12:33). The same blood that makes Him our brother and us His children (Hebrews 9:12) also makes those around us into treasures and privileges. In protecting and providing for the least of these uncertain parents, unresponsive patients, unborn embryos the Kingdom Himself will never be far from us. Incarnate God, draw us into Your humility that our race be raised up. Amen. Mid-Week Stewardship Thought Don t Waste Time Time is so precious, yet nothing is as greatly wasted. Time is neutral until we make it a friend or an enemy. All of us have our own ways of wasting time. At the top of the list could be watching too much television, telephone abuse, playing computer games to excess, or shopping as an escape. In the process of wasting time, we are wasting talents, lives, and opportunities to serve our Lord. 4
5 When we are careful with time, we will properly use our small time fragments. If we add up the spare moments in each day, we may have more time for worthwhile endeavors. To take care of the days, weeks, and months, we need to take care of the minutes. Minutes may be short, but they can add up to a significant amount of time. With angels, archangels, and with all the company of heaven When we gather around the altar of the Lord in His House we pray and praise God with all the company of heaven. Those we have lost in the Lord are not truly lost to us they have simply entered their rest with the Lord. As we gather to worship our Lord, we gather along with them. On the Last Day everything that God has given into the care of our stewardship will fade away everything except our brothers and sisters in Christ. Caring for one another in love and grace is our highest calling. Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You as a humble grateful servant who gives You praise and thanks for all of Your blessings especially for the blessings that we all receive through Your Son Who died and suffered for us so that we can live as forgiven and redeemed people who will spend eternity with You. Help me to live a life that gives You honor and praise. Grant me the wisdom to use the time that You have given me wisely. In Christ s name I pray. Amen. Blessings on your stewardship journey! +LIFE TOGETHER+ November 4 November 11, 2018 Sunday 9:15 Worship Service 10:30 Sunday School 10:45 Adult Sunday School 2:30 Chapel Taylorville Care Center 3:15 Chapel Taylorville Estates Monday 8:45 4 Yr. 6 WE WERE TRULY BLESSED to have had Trinity Lutheran Church partner with us as the Body of Christ gathered to support the Sanctity of Human Life during our recent Loving Arms Walk of Life. This year s Walk had approximately 150 walkers from a total of 22 participating churches; these walkers raised over $29,000 in pledges (a total of one from our congregation raised $380 that contributed to our total!) We want to express our thanks to those who participated in the Walk and to your congregation for your support we are truly grateful. We would like to invite you to contact us ( ) to schedule a time to visit the Center to see the exciting things that are going on, as well as, to get an update on the ministry that is touching lives and offering hope when it is needed most. Together for LIFE, Cathy Coker, Executive Director THRIVENT Hurricane Florence plagued the southeastern Atlantic seaboard for days and still continues to this day; and causing devastation for many. As a membership organization of Christians, we know Thrivent members want to support those who are recovering from the hurricane. And we re making it easy to help. Make a personal donation; Thrivent will match up to $1 million. When you make a donation, Thrivent will match your donation dollar for dollar up to $1 million. This matching opportunity will run until the match is met or until December 31, 2018, whichever comes first. To make a donation and see the list of organizations included in the match, visit the Disaster Response page on Thrivent.com Direct Choice Dollars Thrivent Choice lets eligible members recommend where Thrivent distributes some of its charitable outreach funding. If you have Choice Dollars available to direct, please consider selecting enrolled organizations helping those impacted by Hurricane Florence. For additional details visit the Disaster Response page on Thrivent...com THE CAMP CILCA LOWDOWNNOVEMBER, / camp@cilca.org / 4124 Camp Cilca Rd, Cantrall, IL MEN S TARGET SHOOTING RETREAT November 9-10, 2018 Men of All Ages The 2018 Men's Target Shooting Retreat will feature guest speaker Rev Jonathan Fisk and plenty of targets. During his forty- nine-year reign, he proved a divisive leader he boldly promoted the Reformation but was openly married to two wives at the same time, against the advice of Luther and other theologians. He ruled his land well but ignored sage advice from friends. 6
7 Some people admired Philipp as a hero. Others despised him as scandalous. However he was viewed, one thing was for sure: God was able to use Philipp s leadership skills to unite the Reformation movement and allow it to grow. This comprehensive look at the life and role of Philipp invites readers to take a deeper look at the intertwining history of the Church, the Reformation, and politics. UPDATE FROM ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN Sometimes the disasters are so great that we feel there is nothing we can do that will make a dent in it. Such was the case last year in Houston, and now in North Carolina. Are you wondering how you can help? Thrivent has again made it possible to double your gifts. Thrivent has offered a match up to $1,000, 000 to help victims of Florence. Your donation must be made online through Thrivent.com. But this match is not offered only to Orphan Grain Train; it is offered to eight different charities, which means whichever donors gets their gifts in first will have their gifts matched. The deadline is December 31, 2018, but most likely the $1,000,000 will be reached long before that.
