Though Pilate is not Caesar, he rules by Caesar s authority. Yet he is in the presence of the One who has authority greater than Caesar s. Jesus reign is not like that of this world. His reign is through suffering and the cross. He rules with grace and mercy to save sinners. Attendance last Saturday, 30; Sunday 8:00, 135; 10:30, 146; Sunday School, 43; Midweek Lenten Service 1:30, 16; 6:30, 49.
2 Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, which changes the color and symbols of the paraments. Red is the color of blood plain and simple. While Jesus enters Jerusalem to the shouts of praise, He comes to shed His blood as the ransom for His people. Red is also the color for the Church on Earth (white is for those who are already in heaven) who offer ourselves as living sacrifices for the Kingdom of God. On the lectern we see the Holy Spirit descending upon the whole world in the form of a dove as He was seen descending upon Jesus on the day of His baptism. At the altar, the Holy Spirit delivers to us the true Body and Blood of Christ for our forgiveness. The tongues of fire on the pulpit represent the Holy Spirit coming upon the believers on the Day of Pentecost. There will be no Wednesday Night Meal this Wednesday, April 17 th. Join us the next week, April 24 th, and the following week, May 1 st, at the regular time of 6pm for the final two meals. Devotion will follow the meals at 6:45pm. Newsletter Deadline: The deadline for the May 2019 issue of The Voice is Friday, April 19 th at 4pm. Please drop off any submissions at the church office or to: oursav@hickorytech.net. Thank you. Mite Sunday is next Sunday, April 21 st. Cancer Companions will begin a new group on Wednesday, April 24 th. We will meet for nine sessions. Each meeting includes a short video, devotion from the workbook with Bible verse and questions, time to share from your experience, and an opportunity for prayer requests. This group is for anyone who is, or has been, affected by cancer patient, in remission, caregiver, friend, relative. If you would like to know more about it, please contact Deaconess Lisa Brand ( ), or Mel Hendrickson (suemel@charter.net). May 1 st, Wednesday, Our Savior will sponsor the Pathstone Birthday Party. Join with the Christus Choir for the Entertainment or come to help with the Serving. The residents enjoy your company. To join the Christus Choir, meet at church at 12:30pm for rehearsal. To help serve, meet at Pathstone at 2pm. Looking to get out and enjoy spring? We have been assured that by the end of May spring will be here for good, so we have scheduled our annual spring backpacking trip for May 30-June 2 (leaving early on Thursday and returning Sunday). We will be hiking a portion of the beautiful Superior Hiking Trail that runs from Duluth to Canada along Lake Superior. Some camping experience is helpful, and being able to hike with a loaded pack a must, but no specific backpacking experience necessary. Don't worry if you don't have the gear, as we can borrow as necessary. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Matt Brand (mattsbrand@gmail.com) or Lisa Gahler for more details. Looking forward to an adventure!

(Go to the door between Bluebird Cakery and the Cheese Caves, go down the hall and you will see an elevator and steps on the right.) From The Stewardship Committee: Luke 22:11 Tell the master of the house, The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples? Did Jesus really need this man s Upper Room? If the man had refused to let Jesus use it would the work of salvation have been derailed? Of course not. But what an honor for the man who owned this room! It is likewise with us. The Lord needs none of us, but what an honor for God to choose to use our generosity in the work of His Church. 5 Welcome to Our Savior s Lutheran Church! We are Christians gathered around the unchanging Word and Gifts of Jesus Christ which give forgiveness and salvation now and forever. Our Savior has more than enough blessings for everyone and promises that He will turn no one away. Please let us know who you are and how we can serve you by completing a registration card found in the seat backs and placing it in the offering plate. Holy Communion: On the Sunday before His death (Palm Sunday), Jesus is hailed as King and Lord; and palm branches carpet the path of His humble entrance into Jerusalem. In the Lord s Supper, Jesus still enters our lives with humble means; and He is still Lord and King. It is not too great a thing for Him to be present with His flesh and blood for our forgiveness! Those who understand the meaning of communion and wish to receive it today are asked to review the statement on the back of the registration card. Sunday Matins can be heard on radio station KTOE (1420AM) every Sunday at 8:05 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. If you would like to sponsor a broadcast in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of an event (birthday or anniversary), contact the church office at The cost is $14 for each week. Our Savior s Worship Service is aired Tuesday at 7pm and Wednesday at 2 p.m. on KTV, Spectrum Cable channel 181; Consolidated Communications channel 7.
