1 Trinity Tidings Page Trinity Tidings TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH October, 2017 GENEROSITY We will start our worship emphasis on Biblical Generosity on Sunday, October 8 th. For five weeks, concluding with our Consecration Sunday on November 5 th, we will hear about the life that is really life. We will learn what it means to Follow Jesus, when he says: strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness. We will Face The Truth of Paul s statement: I have learned to be content with whatever I have. We will study how to Act Together is a calling from God. We will learn to Share Enough. 500 years ago, Martin Luther observed: "There are three conversions necessary the conversion of the heart, of the mind, and of the purse." Pray that God will convert our hearts, minds and purses.
2 Page 2 Trinity Tidings On September 17 th, our youth program began a monthly series focusing on spiritual disciplines. Our first night included lasagna, shaving cream and cheese puffs (hope you saw the pictures on Facebook), a lesson on worship, and breakout groups that discussed how to apply the lesson to daily living. It was a fun-filled night. We ll continue this pattern over the next four months, focusing on prayer, simplicity, Scripture memorization, and fasting. There are many ways to be involved in our youth program, so please contact me if you believe God has equipped you to minister to youth. During worship on the 17 th, the Youth Committee provided an overview of their ministry and the different ways to be involved. Four youth spoke, along with Robin Akerman and myself. You heard from the youth about how the ministry has positively impacted their lives; Robin and I laid our vision and gave our appeal for how Trinity members can take part in the ministry. There are always things to do, but as we get into our youth programs and events, I m asking for ALL of you to pray for our youth, their mentors, and my teaching. Here are four ways you can pray for our us: 1) That we develop a culture that is marked by love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). 2) That our adult mentors would have knowledge about the world our youth inhabit (1 Chronicles 12:32) 3) That our youth would know the life that Jesus has called them to (Ephesians 1:17-19). 4) That I would teach what is consistent with sound doctrine (Titus 1:9; 2:1). Our youth face an immensely challenging world, but it also is a time that presents a great opportunity to witness to the good news of Jesus Christ. Let us pray that in all we do, our youth will come shine like stars in the world (Philippians 2:15). In His Service, Brian
3 Page 3 Trinity Tidings Composing a Legacy: What does your will or estate plan say about your faith? As Presbyterians, we celebrate our faith in many ways: through worship, mission and sharing. Sharing our wealth, both spiritual and material, is one of the cornerstone principles of our Presbyterian heritage. As we embrace our material blessings, we must also accept the responsibility of God s gifts to us. That responsibility calls on us to be stewards of our faith and use all of God s gifts wisely. In response, many Presbyterians choose to make gifts of their accumulated resources to their church. There are many ways to make a legacy gift to the Church ranging from outright gifts to simple bequests, permanent funds, and life income plans. On Sunday, October 15, 2017, beginning at 8:45 am in the Gym, Trinity will host a minute program about how you can leave your faith legacy through your will and other planned gifts. Robert Hay, Jr, Ministry Relations Officer with the Presbyterian Foundation, will be making the presentation and will be available to meet with individuals or couples one-on-one following the presentation. I appointed you to go out and bear fruit that is lasting John 15:16. Lasting fruits are what we pass down to the next generation: our values, our ethics, and our faith. Including the church in our estate plan is lasting fruit, a witness to our Christian faith to the generations to come. 4 Page 4 Trinity Tidings Dear Pastor Hugh, Last weekend (8/25-27) will stand in our memory banks as one of the best we can remember. Thank you and our Father in heaven for making this happen. It all started with you and your church accepting Brian as your associate. We are confident this will be an unbroken circle. The love and joy everyone at Trinity shared with all of us was such a comfort and blessing. The Service of Ordination was beautiful. We are thankful for the DVD. It was so good to share that with Grandpa Rob and Uncle Tom. All in all there are not enough words to express our gratitude. Please convey our thanks to Sandy for her part in this. We will keep Trinity Presbyterian in our prayers for all of God s richest blessings. Shalom, Sue Cain (Brian s Grandma) Dear Trinity Church Family, We were so thankful to have spent last Sunday (August 27) with you. The services were joyous for our family. All of you made us feel so welcome. It was so much fun getting to meet so many of you. We are so happy that Brian is part of this family of believers. We look forward to visiting again soon. Again, many thanks and blessings to you. 6 SUPPER CLUB SIGN - UP! Back by popular demand Supper Clubs are forming now to meet for the following year starting in October. Page 6 Trinity Tidings Supper Clubs are small groups meeting for food, fun and fellowship. Anyone can join couples, singles, young or old. The dinner groups will have 6-8 people assigned whenever possible to allow the host-hostess for the month to invite additional people (perhaps new church members, prospective members or anyone who would enjoy the fun). This is a great way to broaden our friendships and connect with others in our church family! For those of you who participated in years past, the names will sound familiar: DINING IN are in-home Groups where the host/hostess rotate monthly and usually provide the main course and beverage. Others attending bring side dishes and dessert. DUTCH TREAT Groups rotate host/hostess choosing his/her favorite restaurant for the month. Each person is responsible for his/her own check. OUT-TO-LUNCH BUNCH Groups operate like the Dutch Treat Groups, rotating between host s favorite lunch eateries. You may join one or all of these Groups!
