2 Page 2 Trinity Tidings Dear Trinity church members, Ake and Karin Burman, Fleming Island, Florida have requested that I let you know how much they appreciate all of your prayers offered up on behalf of Ake who has been under medical treatment for Stage 3 Melanoma for several months. Recent test results and consultations have been very encouraging. Ake and Karin, Swedish parents of my daughterin-law, Annica Williams, have been deeply moved by your prayers and concerns. They showed me some of the prayer cards they have received. My family and I, too, want to express our deep appreciation as well.. Thank you. Sincerely, Carl E. Williams Dear Wendy and our Friends at Trinity, Thank you for once again hosting Collegiate Challenge Groups! The Group from Penn State was especially appreciative that you went out of your way to pick up the Birthday Cake from 9 Mile Road! Thank you again for partnering with us to make an incredible positive impact on our community and beyond. Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Trinity Presbyterian and Robin Akerman, I wanted to thank you for allowing my friends Danice and Tina to gather clothes for our Men s Homeless Room at the end of your Rummage Sale. They were able to gather men s shoes, pants, shirts, some tents, and backpacks that were given out this last Homeless Day. The shoes were so appreciated by the men and it was nice to allow them 2 t-shirts instead of one. May God bless those of us who work to help spread His Word to those in need. Sincerely, Glenna Somerset of Gateway Church of Christ HELPING HANDS MINISTRY: If you could use a hand with a project around your home or you're able to lend a hand, please contact Dave Blodgett at or Children and Youth Summer Sunday School Our Children and Youth Sunday School teachers will be taking the Summer off beginning on the first Sunday in June. Our four year olds through fifth graders will be meeting each Sunday during the Summer as a group in Room 9. We will be following the curriculum from last Summer and are in need of volunteer Sunday School teachers. We are flexible and will need 4 or 5 teachers each Sunday. Our Summer Sunday School will end with Rally Day on August 14 th. If you can help, please contact Steve Takeuchi at srtake@bellsouth.net or Our Mid-Hi s and Senior Highs will be meeting as a group during the Summer in the Mid-Hi s Sunday School Room. If you are interested in helping teach, a planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4 th at 5:30 pm in the Mid-Hi s room. End of the School Year Picnic and Teacher Recognition The Fellowship and Christian Education Ministry teams are sponsoring a congregation wide picnic and teacher recognition for Sunday, May 22 nd. The picnic will be after Worship in the Legacy Plaza and Gym. The Church will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and a sheet cake. Members of the congregation, except our teachers, are asked to provide side dishes to share or contribute money to help defray costs. Come celebrate the end of the school year and help honor our Sunday School teachers. Calling all Elementary Campers: Dogwood Acres summer camps give our 1st-5th graders an opportunity to embark on many Dogwood Acres traditions including Bible studies, archery, Ga-Ga Ball, the land swing, swimming, campfires and lots more! It's really fun when all the Trinity kids can go at the same time, and the kids have such a great time. For those who aren't familiar, 1st-2nd Graders go from Sunday to Wednesday and 3rd-5th graders go Sunday to Friday. There are only a few weeks that both camps are offered the same week. We are looking at the week of July 10th- 15th which would accommodate both the Intro Camp and the Discovery Camp (and because the mid-highs will be at Mo Ranch that week too) You can pick your roommates when you register, which always helps being away from home :-) Who can join us?? Please contact Stephanie Peterson with any questions.

First, during our Sunday May 8th worship services, the recipient of the annual Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership will be announced. This annual award is given to a Trinity member in recognition of her outstanding service to our church and community. After services, members will have the opportunity to meet her in the church parlor, as we celebrate the blessings in the lives of Presbyterian Women with our annual Presbyterian Women's birthday gathering. So consider yourself invited, and join us for birthday cake and refreshments after the Sunday Mother's Day services, as we spotlight Presbyterian Women's financial support of special missions. This year, there are four recipients of grants from the 2016 Birthday Offering. Your support will help at-risk youth in Kansas and Florida, girls in South Sudan, and families in California living in sub-standard housing. Checks should be made to Trinity Presbyterian Women, noting birthday offering on your check. We hope you will join us for this special celebration.

All are invited to join us! Page 6 Trinity Tidings Legacy Fund We are continuing to highlight Legacy Fund projects and the impact that they have had. This month we are highlighting a Legacy grant to Dogwood Acres. In January of 2013, the Outreach Team recommended a Legacy application from the Dogwood Acres Ministry Team. Dogwood Acres has been growing at a faster pace than ever before, and additional housing accommodations within the cabin areas has been an immediate need and priority in order for them to keep up with the tremendous growth that is upon them during both Summer Camp and the Retreat Season. Dogwood Acres was also in need of more accommodating facilities that would allow them to reach out to a broader community and to make their ministry available for those who may require more privacy or upgraded accommodations. In order to improve the accommodations, Dogwood Acres had received a $2, donation from Faith Presbyterian in Tallahassee and $ donation from a private donor. Quincy Presbyterian had pledged a $20, matching gift. The Legacy grant was approved to match the Quincy Presbyterian pledge. The initial vision for the improved accommodations was to renovate the old bathhouse. Quickly it became apparent that it was neither physically feasible nor financially prudent to do so. So, the old bathhouse was torn down and in close proximity, the new Monroe Lodge was built. It was completed two days before Summer Camp started last May. Last winter DWA held a dedication for the building, named after the Jim Monroe Family in honor of their commitment to the DWA ministry for years and years. The Monroe Lodge has 4 bedrooms each with a private bath, and there is a large common area with a small kitchenette. There is also a Nurse s Station or First Aid Room, and a utility room with washer and dryer. The porches, or decks, are spacious and add to the inviting nature of the building and the outdoor theme of the ministry. A snapshot of the Lodge is attached. Ben Powell, the director of DWA, has issued a personal invitation to Trinity to come and experience God s grace at Dogwood Acres. Please watch for this column in the months ahead to learn more about the difference the Legacy Fund is making. If you have suggestions for future initiatives funded by the Legacy Fund, please talk to a member of the staff, session or legacy committee or submit a suggestion in the suggestion box in the Narthex or on line at the Trinity website. Please remember that Legacy Funds are dedicated to projects outside the normal Church budget. To learn more about legacy fund priorities go to our webpage at Legacy Committee: Jan Beck, Giles Yokel, Jean Norman, Steve Takeuchi, Bob Palmer and Leah McCreary. Ex Officio members are Hugh Hamilton, Sharon Robbins and Ruth White. South African Student To Visit Trinity This Summer Trinity Presbyterian has been supporting education for AIDS orphaned students in South Africa for ten years. We have had many successful partnerships. Several of the original students are now at university in and around Cape Town. One of these students, Siyabulela Boto, has shown academic and leadership excellence and was a member of his university debate team sent to Germany! With the help of a generous member donation, the Outreach Team has invited Siya to visit Trinity this summer. Approximate dates are June 28-July 12. He will be staying with members of the Outreach Team; however, we are hoping to have families with college age members to host part of his visit. We would like for Siya to have a variety of home host experiences. Also, we are looking for special activities for families to share with him, such as, boating and 4th of July celebrations. This visit is about American cultural experiences, as well as, worship and church friend relationships. If you are interested in being a part of this amazing opportunity, please call Ginger Caro

7 Page 7 Trinity Tidings LIBRARY NEWS! It's spring Art and the Library has grown tremendously! Thanks to Steve Takeuchi (the Discoverer) and the Iris Suber Legacy, we now have available to every member, an unbelievable number of Christian books, studies and videos. Check out Steve's memo below, and Colette Obray's "book report" on a Bible study from the Right Now Media. Right Now Media Trinity has extended to each member a subscription to Right Now Media, a Netflix of Christian Bible Studies and Kids Videos. You have access to over 10,000 video Bible studies and Christian Kids videos. If you haven t received your invitation, please contact the Church Office or Steve Takeuchi at (850) or srtake@bellsouth.net. The Wednesday Night Mens Group has been studying a video series by Tony Dungy, entitled: Dare To Be Uncommon. A number of video lectures by Ravi Zacharias on apologetics have been added. There are Bible studies on parenting, such as: Raising Kingdom Kids, by Tony Evans and Raising Kids with a Faith That Lasts, by Tim Kimmel; marriage series, such as: imarriage, by Andy Stanley and Kids videos, such as: Veggie Tales, Penguins, and What s In The Bible. All of this Christian video content is available to you free of charge and can be streamed to your smart phone, tablet, computer or television. See what you have been missing. Please read what Colette Obray has to say about Right Now Media and her current Bible study. I am a big fan of Right Now Media. The app is on my phone and ipad. I have tried, for years, to join a study group and my schedule is too crazy. Right Now Media meets me where I am, when time allows. In my car, while preparing dinner, at the office, even first thing in the morning while getting ready for work. I look forward to the times I can listen and absorb the material. I often listen to a session a couple of times before sitting down with a notes or a study guide. I am thrilled with my present study, Secret Church by David Platt. Secret Church, presently, includes 15 separate studies of 4 sessions per study, on average. I have completed session 5: Exploring the Holy Spirit and session 1: Survey of the Old Testament. Now, I am working on session 9: The Body of Christ As you see, no need to go in order. Ryan and I both thoroughly enjoy the studies. Each session sparks much discussion. Sometimes we are not even on the same study topic and have a lot of information to share. David Platt began his Secret Church study at The Church Brook Hills, in Birmingham. His passion to build disciples by studying the Word becomes obvious within a few minutes of listening to Dr. Platt. I thoroughly enjoy his approach as if he is gathering with friends and he is eager to share the most exciting story. Be sure to bring your Bible or borrow one from the Reference Room when you come to see Artist Beth Stage's unique art works now in the Library. Each one has a verse from the Bible that enhances its beauty and our understanding of its message. Beth has been a blessing to Trinity ever since she joined us several years ago, teaching and sharing her many talents.
