2 Page 2 Trinity Tidings Dear Friends, April is a BIG month for Trinity s Youth. Beginning in January Tommy Bucco, Tyler De- Jong, Mallory Lawrence, Zachary Peterson, and Abby Prettyman have come each Sunday morning for Confirmation study. We ve covered a lot of material and had many great discussions. They ve been engaged, willing to share their thoughts and ideas, and have a shown a genuine love and passion for the church and their faith. Our mentors Pete Clark, Jim Patteson, Mary Blanchard, John Baehr and Patty Hightower have built great relationships with the youth and done a lot to show them what membership in the church looks like. Their wisdom and concern has been invaluable! And on April 22 nd we re going to recognize our five confirmands during the worship service and honor them with a reception afterwards. This is a special group, so please be sure to congratulate them on their hard work. Here s an outline of our topics: Session One: Remembering Your Baptism Session Two: God and His Good Creation Session Three: Sin and the Loss of Innocence Session Four: Salvation Invades the World The Humanity of Christ Session Five: Salvation Invades the World The Divinity of Christ Session Six: The Lord s Supper Session Seven: The Church and Your Mission Session Eight: Grace & Gratitude: The Shape of Your Life The following week is another major event for our Youth: Youth Sunday. On April 29 th the Youth will lead the worship service, and Ryan Obray will deliver his Senior Message. Our planning is underway and with so many talented youth it will be a great service. Please be there on April 29 th to support our youth and see their talents used to lead us in worship. Our Youth have a lot on their plate, so please pray for them during this hectic month. Pray for our confirmands as they write their faith statements and go before Session. And pray that our Youth Sunday planning will go well, all for the glory of God. Grace & Peace, Brian Yount

Sites closest to Trinity are the Vickery Center on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and the Bayview Senior Center on Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please bring picture ids, social security cards or statements, current tax forms and last year s return and forms. For questions contact Steve Takeuchi at or srtake@bellsouth.net. ART IN THE LIBRARY: Trinity is blessed to have many talented artists. The display in the library is the work of one of those artists, Ben Prewitt. Please stop by the library and enjoy Ben s work until June 3! Considerations for Charitable Contributions to Trinity Do you receive a required minimum distribution from an IRA? In general, distributions from a traditional IRA are taxable in the year you receive them. An exception to distributions from traditional IRAs being taxable in the year you receive them is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A qualified charitable distribution is generally a nontaxable distribution made directly by the trustee of your traditional IRA to an organization eligible to receive tax deductible contributions, such as Trinity Presbyterian Church. Funds distributed directly to you, the IRA owner, and which you then give to charity do not qualify as a QCD. You must be at least age 70-1/2 when the distribution was made. A QCD will count towards your required minimum distribution, and you cannot claim a charitable contribution deduction for any QCD not included in your income. Also, you can usually deduct the full fair market value of appreciate long-term assets you have held for more than one year, such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds. In addition, if you contribute stocks or other investments, you pay no capital gains. You should consult your own tax and accounting advisors for further information and before engaging in any transaction.
4 Dear Trinity Family, I call you a family in the true sense of the word! You have treated us just like one of your own during Steve s health trials over the past 6 weeks. From the myriad of cards (including regular Women s Prayer Group cards) to the food and goodie baskets sent to Atlanta by Ruth Circle, the Women s Retreat, and the Choir! We felt truly supported by you all! I m glad to report that Steve is getting better every day since his by -pass surgery. He has a way to go before he will be ready to reassess his cancer treatment. We feel encouraged by his doctor at Emory that this can be done without dire effects. Our love to you all and our eternal gratitude to God our Father. Lucy and Steve Trawick Thank you for your prayers for my cousin, Mary Nell Wells. She didn t qualify for Laser Surgery in Tampa, so she had surgery in Destin. She is now having Physical Therapy. She told me to thank you all and that she read every name on the cards. It really helped her. She is free of back pain. My thanks to you all, too. Love, Gerry Smith Now that I am back in Pensacola and nearing the conclusion of my in-home health care, I want to express my sincere appreciation for your prayers and concern during my recent illness that necessitated my hospitalization and subsequent stay in a rehab facility. I am continuing to gain strength via physical therapy. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. Happy Easter to all. Carl Williams The Christian Education Team needs volunteers to help stock 15 totes that our children use during Sunday worship. The totes can be stocked at your convenience during the week. There is a budget to fund any items purchased. A two person team would be ideal. If you are interested in helping, please contact Steve Takeuchi at or srtake@bellsouth.net. Usually this is the death of a loved one but may also be separation or estrangement, unexpected personal limitations in one s self or a loved one, retirement or job loss, moving away from familiar places, or downsizing. Grief requires that we learn to accept and adapt to changes. Grief is easier faced when in community with others as we find our way to face altered lives. As we draw on God s strength, we learn to rest in His comfort. Grief Support at Trinity meets for formal study, reflection and mutual support Monday afternoons for 12 weeks starting in the autumn and throughout the year on the third Monday of each month for dinner and an opportunity to catch-up with one another or to address specific problems as needed. New members are welcomed at any time throughout the year and need not be members of Trinity. Please contact the church, Sally or Dale Zorn, or Sue Coleman for more information.
