1 TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Trinity Tidings Page Trinity Tidings OCTOBER,, 2016 Dear Friends, MAKE A LIST David Letterman made a career with humorous Top 10 lists on his LateNight TV Show. Social media outlets bombard us daily with lists of the Best/Worst Dressed Stars, the Richest, Sexiest, Funniest celebrities, the Scariest roller coasters, the top-ranked college football teams, the best/ worst movies, best seller books, top customer satisfaction cars, the worst natural disasters. We are obsessed with ranking teams, occurrences, people, profits; anything quantifiable. So I ask you, what are your Top 10 most precious possessions in your life? Your Top 10 personal relationships? Your Top 10 Blessings you have received from God? What Top 10 books have shaped your life perspective and world view? What Top 10 hymns consistently speak to your heart? What Top 10 Bible verses pop into your memory when you need sustenance or when you experience joy? What Top 10 friends still remain in your heart even though time and distance separate you? List making stimulates your brain and initiates a stream of consciousness that gathers more and more thoughts, emotions, realizations, insights and memories that contribute to the riches in your heart. With Stewardship in mind, take stock of your blessings, and list your riches in God. What Top 10 people in your life bless you? Make it a Fantastic Five, a Fabulous Fifty, a Wonderful 100, a Thankful Three, or a Delightful Dozen. No matter how long your list, inventory the people through whom which God blesses you. You ll be surprised how your list grows. You'll remember people with whom you ve lost contact, but who still influence you. You ll recognize some whom you take for granted. You ll list some you have neglected. Aside from people you know personally, what authors or TV/media people share your days and touch your lives? How about your medical doctor, your dentist, attorney, financial advisor? Who makes you laugh and brightens your days? Who challenges you to be a better person? Who move you to tears and understands you? Who shares the Bible with you? Who in your church could you not do without? Who are your soul mates? Human relationships are priceless, precious, persistent reminders of God s goodness to us. Consider your relationships, inventory your blessings, make your lists and enjoy the day realizing how rich you are! Then ponder how and where and when you might bless others with your money, your time, your listening, your compassion; with a phone call or a visit or a chat. May your lists become prayer lists and lists of Top Things I Want/Need/Hope To Do! Philippians 1:3 I Thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all Blessings and peace!

Last month you may remember that we looked at a Legacy grant to replace and upgrade the Pastors furniture. This month we would like to discuss Legacy Grant Application to replace and upgrade the lighting in the gym. In 2015, the Facilities Team in an effort to reduce the cost of electricity in the gym proposed a $15, application to replace the halogen lighting in the gym. As you know that gym is used almost continually for meetings, luncheons, worship, Wednesday night suppers, Trinity Learning Center, scout meetings, sports and other events. The electrical costs associated with operating the gym are substantial. When installed the lighting was the state of the art, but in the meantime technological advances had made halogen lighting an expensive option. LED lighting was proposed which has a substantially longer life and substantially lower electrical use. With the replacement the Church could expect a reduction of 384,480 watts of energy a year at a reduction in electrical cost of $2,175 per year. Replacement of burned out bulbs is an expensive proposition in the gym with its high ceilings and the LED bulbs last substantially longer, thereby reducing the cost of replacement. In April of 2015, the Session approved this grant and the lighting in the gym was soon upgraded. Please watch for this column in the months ahead to learn more about the difference the Legacy Fund is making. If you have suggestions for future initiatives funded by the Legacy Fund, please talk to a member of the staff, session or legacy committee. Please remember that Legacy Funds are dedicated to projects outside the normal Church budget. To learn more about legacy fund priorities go to our webpage at trinitypcola.org/money matters. Legacy Committee: Jan Beck, Jean Norman, Steve Takeuchi, Bob Palmer, Giles Yokel and Leah McCreary. Ex Officio members are Hugh Hamilton, Ruth White and Sharon Robbins. 5 STEWARDSHIP ME/OTHERS - STEWARDSHIP Page 5 Trinity Tidings Stewards are responsible persons. They are responsible for the keeping and administration Of something which is entrusted to them. That something may be money, or land or human welfare. It is not their own, and it not for themselves. They are given it within an agreement, And they must offer returns on it as their ability, opportunity, and training make possible. Christians believe that such responsibility applies to the whole of life. Living is a trust, living is a stewardship process. As Christian stewards we cannot isolate one portion Of what we are or have and say, That is our stewardship. It means the whole of life. Stewardship can never get very far from Christ; crucified and risen. Stewardship is giving back to Christ what belongs to Him. Stewardship is the response of love to the realization of how Much we have been loved. It means time, money, ability, possessions It means LIFE. In the end stewardship is a love affair; A love affair with our fellow men, With our creation, with our God and His Church, And it won t be doled out in fractions and fragments. But it will be a stewardship of overflowing love, For only that is worthy of the name of Christian Stewardship. Children s Church leaders needed! Children s Church is a ministry of the Christian Education team which prepares the children (age 4 through 2nd grade) for worship in big church when they enter 3rd grade Using the elements of our worship, the children learn the meaning of the call to worship, praying, passing the peace, singing (hymns, Doxology, Gloria Patria), offerings, lesson(sermon), etc. Symbols and banners are used to help explain the worship parts as well as the events of Advent and Lent. Since this curriculum has been implemented, children have been seen shaking hands during the passing of the peace and mouthing the words to the Gloria Patria, great evidence that these lessons are sticking with them! Please prayerfully consider if you are willing to commit 3-4 weeks of your time to foster these precious little lives during the Sunday worship service. All the lessons are already prepared and set out each week for the volunteers. A sign up sheet is available on the door of room 1 and volunteers are needed immediately and throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your service to the youngest of our flock!! For more information, please contact Laura Lawrence.

8 Page 8 Trinity Tidings Trinity Youth spent the evening of Sept. 11 spreading appreciation to local first responders by baking and delivering from-scratch treats. During the Youth Planning Retreat several weeks ago, the youth expressed an interest in recognizing local law enforcement and firefighters, especially on the 15 th anniversary of this infamous day. The whole event was youth inspired! My favorite events at Trinity are the ones that are intergenerational. We had so much fun with all ages, and it was great to surprise our firefighters of Station 6, said Wendy Davies, Youth Team Member. We were able to shake the hands of people who put their lives in harm s way for us all, every day. It was nice to tell them thank you in person. I was so proud of our youth. The evening began with a delicious Taco Bar provided by the Lawrence family. As soon as the youth cleaned their plates, they were given baking assignments and got to work. The kitchen was full of youth and adults cooking together to create delicious baked goods rice krispy treats, chocolate chip cookies, and no-bake oatmeal cookies to name a few. Other youth made poster-sized thank you cards to send with the plates of cookies. The treats were divided and plated and delivered to 4 fire stations, 1 police station, and the sheriff s department. A firefighter at Station #3 on Summit Blvd said, Did you guys make these? They re still warm! It was inspiring to me to see the youth work together so well for such a good cause, Senior High Youth Team Member Loryn Wooten said. We had so much fun. This is an event worth repeating.
