Let everyone around us know that we are Christians by our love. We will love as Christ taught us to love one another. AMEN. 2 Prelude Trinity United Methodist Church May 13, 2012 Welcome to Worship *Please stand as comfortable, please respond where print is BOLD. NOW AVAILABLE, ASSISTED HEARING DEVICES Ask an Usher to assist you. Welcome and Announcements Entrance Anita Neilson Please Register Your Attendance The ushers will be bringing in the attendance pads to sign. Please fill in all the spaces so that the office has accurate directory information and for any unspoken prayer requests. Thank you. Signs of Peace The first Christians welcomed each other to worship with the kiss of Christ. Today, we shake hands and announce to each other, The peace of Christ be with you or other greeting to remind us that we are one community in faith. *Covenantal Hymn Bind Us Together, Lord #2226 FWS *Call to Worship We come to worship our God, who says I love my people and who wants us to follow in his ways. God used words to affirm a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses. God continues to affirm us through the words of the prophets, Jesus, and the church. God s love is always available to us when we release the worries of this world and go to Him in prayer and supplication. God spent quality time with us by taking on skin and bones and becoming a man. When the Israelites were in the wilderness they needed guidance and God gave them the gift of the Law. When the Magi came to Jesus they brought gifts for the newborn King. God gives us the very gift of life, health, wisdom, shelter, food, family and friends. God speaks the language of acts of service, from the Israelite s law for caring for the widow, orphan, and immigrant to Jesus act of washing his disciple s feet to the church s community of sharing as all had need. God calls on us to be in service to each other and to the world through our service and mission to strengthen the family of God. When Christ touched people they were healed of plagues, illnesses, paralysis, and demons. The touch of God created the world. God touches us best when our hearts are open to receiving the hand of God in guiding our every moment. We love the Lord! *Opening Prayer: Loving God, speak to us once more of your infinite love for your creation. Paul reminds us that: Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends. Use this time of worship to move us to be more like the vision that you have for us as loving and grateful people. AMEN. *Gloria Patri #70 UMH *Hymn of Praise: He Touched Me #367 UMH Proclamation of the Word Children s Choir MOM Directed by Cindy Boller Kidz Zone With Cindy Boller Scripture Mark 5:25-34 Message Physical Touch Rev. Patrick Broz Apostle s Creed Responding to the Word #881 UMH As we move our hearts and spirits into a time of prayer, let us sing Together (we will sing it 2 times): Hymn of Assurance: Cares Chorus (2x) #2215 FWS Community Prayers Worshippers are welcome to share their prayer concerns by raising their hand and waiting for an usher to bring them a microphone. After concluding the prayer request, please conclude with the phrase: Lord, in your mercy and the congregation will respond: Hear Our Prayer. The Lord s Prayer (sung) #896 UMH Offering of Gifts: As forgiven and reconciled people, let us offer ourselves and our gifts to God. Music: Anita Neilson *Doxology: #95 UMH *Prayer of Generosity: Love is not selfish, nor is it conceited. Love accepts people where they are. In return for God s gracious act of loving us, despite our flaws and the times we abandon our faith for the ways of the world, we offer back our love offering to you, knowing that you gave us the ultimate gift of love on the cross. May these gifts move us closer to the vision of transforming hearts, uniting communities, empowering individuals, and changing lives. In Jesus name. AMEN. 5 Purpose Statement: Trinity United Methodist Church exists to introduce and deepen each person s faith in Jesus Christ so that we joyfully serve one another in love. Vision Statement: Trinity United Methodist Church is committed to strengthening the family of God by: Transforming hearts Uniting communities empowering individuals Changing lives Adopted by Leadership Team on March 5, 2012 VITAL CONGREGATION GOALS FOR TUMC Vital Congregations engage disciples so that they 1. Worship 2. Make new disciples (Professions of Faith) 3. Engage in a small group (Bible study groups) 4. Engage in mission 5. Give to missions Goal Area TUMC Goal TUMC Actual Year to Date Worship Make New Disciples 2 0 Engage in small group Engage in mission Give to missions $16,900 $ SMART Actions for TUMC to achieve these goals: 1. Hire a Christian Education Director by May 1, 2012, without affecting paying current bills so that we can attract new as well as deepen existing persons as disciples of Jesus Christ. 2. Establish 12 care groups by September 1, 2012, so that we live out our lives as Christ s example to love one another as he loved us. 3. Revitalize classrooms in original building by refurbishing, organizing, replacing, updating, and adding technology for multi-purpose use by December 31, 2012, with priority given to the blue, green, yellow, and pre-k rooms so that learning is done in a safe, inspiring, and age-appropriate environment. MINISTRY STRATEGIES FOR A VITAL CONGREGATION Engaged in making disciples - Vital churches have more small groups for all ages. - Vital churches have more programs for children. - Vital churches have more programs for youth. Lay Leadership - Vital churches focus on increasing the effectiveness of lay leaders (understand their role and carrying these roles out effectively). - Vital churches have lay leaders who demonstrate a vital personal faith (regular worship, intentional spiritual growth, personal devotional life, and giving of financial resources). - Vital churches place an emphasis on rotating lay leadership in order to involve more people over time. - Vital churches call, equip, use and support more lay leaders than non-- vital churches. (20% or more of their worship attendees describe themselves as current or past leaders in their church). Pastor - Vital pastors give attention to developing, coaching, and mentoring lay leadership to enable laity to increase their ability to carry out ministry. - Vital pastors use their influence to increase the participation of others in order to accomplish changes in the church. - Vital pastors motivate the congregation to set and achieve significant goals through effective leadership. - Vital pastors inspire the congregation through preaching. - Vital pastors, when they are serving effectively, stay for a longer period of time. (Short--- term appointments of effective pastors decrease the vitality of a congregation). Worship - Vital churches offer a mix of contemporary (newer forms of worship style) and traditional services. - Vital churches have preachers who tend to use more topical sermon series in traditional services. - Vital churches use more contemporary music (less blended music that includes traditional tunes) in contemporary services. - Vital churches use more multi--- media in contemporary services Missions - Vital churches are engaged in giving and doing mission - Vital churches are engaged in mission locally and globally
