2 Welcome to God s house today!!! A special welcome to visitors and guests; we are pleased that you have joined us today! If you have no church family and if we can be of any help to you please call the pastor or speak with him after the service. We invite all guests to sign the Guest Register or the visitor s card in the pew. We pray that as we continue to celebrate Christ s resurrection, through God s Word and all of worship, you will feel God s love for you and be empowered to live as God s child this week. Today s Focus What should we think about the day they went to Jesus and said to Him: "Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You." And when Jesus answered, "What is it you want Me to do for you?" Today let us regard James and John and their audacious request with far more seriousness than we may want to at first. Let us regard James and John as if they were us and realize that we haven t been listening and taking to heart what God has been saying to us. Is there something you d like us to pray for today? There are yellow Prayer Request cards at the Usher counter. Please hand your request to an usher before the service or hand it to them during the offering. They will give them to the pastor to include in the prayers for today. The Lord s Supper is celebrated on the 1st & 3rd Sundays /month. We joyfully share our conviction that this is The Lord's Table. We receive the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, together with the bread and wine in a manner our human reason cannot understand. (Real Presence) By communing together with our Lord and one another: - we express a common faith that Jesus is Son of God and Son of Man - that Jesus is our Savior and only way for salvation; - That Jesus offers us His Body and Blood in a mysterious yet real way - that Christ's sacrificial death assures us of the forgiveness of our sins; - and that God is strengthening us in this Sacrament to live a more godly life and to amend with the help of the Holy Spirit, those areas not in conformity with God s will. - We declare these statements because it is our concern for people to not be hypocritical between their faith and practice. Those who share these convictions are welcome to come and celebrate the blessings of God's Table at the Altar. Persons unable to approach the Altar may be communed in the pew, please notify the Pastor or Elder if you wish this service. The white wine in the center is denatured (alcohol removed) wine. MIDWEEK 5 March 25 th at 6:30 pm continues our journey down the road to understand the Lenten Lies, we will consider some of those lies as we also consider the answers of Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Our theme for Midweek 5 is Entertainment is Always Good Luke 23:4-9.

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE In America, we removed the religious moral compass from our children and now we are shocked when some sad soul murders his classmates. We removed morality from our youngster s education, and we are surprised to see high schoolers sexting. This is why we say we can do no better than to listen to the Lord. Rev. In our family, in our church, and in the world at large, Jesus calls us to follow His example in self-giving. We can only do this if we are connected to His self-giving in faith. SALVATION ARMY FOOD SHELF Remember the needy when you are shopping! This past month 71 lbs. of food was donated. Food as well as household supplies are needed at the Salvation Army. Thanks! 7 Catechesis Note for the Week Jesus Christ, True God and True Man Jesus Christ took on human nature without ceasing to be God. He is true God and true Man. When the time had fully come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman Galatians 4:4 The promise of a Saviour that God had made to Adam and Eve as they were expelled from Paradise was fulfilled: I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel. (Gen 3:15). From then until the moment when the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14), The origin of the Incarnation is God's love for mankind. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him (1 Jn 4:9). The Incarnation is the supreme sign of God's love for us, since God gives himself to us through the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity coming to share in our human nature in the unity of the Son's divine Person. The Incarnation is the mystery of the wonderful union of the divine and human natures in the one person of the Word. The Incarnation of the Son of God does not mean that Jesus Christ is part God and part man, nor does it imply that he is the result of a confused mixture of the divine and the human. He became truly man while remaining truly God. Jesus Christ is true God and true man" The Incarnation has a saving and redemptive purpose, as we profess in the Creed. who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man. Christ said of Himself that the Son of man came to seek and to save what was lost (Matt 18:11), and that God sent His Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved by Him ( John 3:17). The Church defended and clarified this truth of faith during the first centuries against the heresies which denied or misrepresented it. As far back as the 1st century some Christians of Jewish origin, the Ebionites, held that Christ was simply a very holy man. Adoptionism" arose in the 2 nd century, maintaining that Jesus was the adopted son of God: that Jesus was only a man in whom God's strength dwelt. It was condemned in 190 A.D., by the Council of Antioch in 268. The Arian heresy, by denying the divinity of the Word, also denied that Jesus Christ was God. Arius was condemned by the Council of Nicaea in the year 325. Today we confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God subsistent from all eternity and that in the Incarnation He assumed human nature in His one divine Person.

8 Today s Scripture Readings Jeremiah 31:31-34: The Old Covenant was a promise of grace through faithfulness to the Law of the Lord. The Old Covenant was broken by the children of Israel. Only Jesus could keep the Old Covenant, and it is precisely His faithfulness unto death for us whereby He inaugurates the New Covenant in His blood. The New Covenant proclaims that all is finished and completed in Christ. The New Covenant proclaims forgiveness - the very message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which redeems, justifies, and sanctifies us. It is by this New Covenant that we all know the Lord, from the least to the greatest, because He forgives our iniquity and our sin He remembers no more. Hebrews 5:1-10: The High Priests in Old Testament times were able to have compassion on the people for whom they offered sacrifices and prayers because they, too, were beset with weakness. This is an important lesson for pastors today. If they don t know and understand their own sinful weakness, if they don t receive the ministry of grace for themselves, how will they be able to minister faithfully to fellow sinners? As the Old Testament priests did not take this honor upon themselves; they were called to it. So also Christ, did not honor Himself, but was called by the Father into an eternal priesthood, after the order of Melchizedek (the King of righteousness), in order to sympathize with us in our weakness by bearing our sin and to offer the final offering in His own death upon the cross. Mark 10:32-45: We cannot make atonement for our sin by our own suffering and death. Only Jesus can make satisfaction for us. Only He can drink the cup of suffering and be baptized with the baptism of death for our transgressions. And yet, we will share in His suffering and death through our baptism into Christ and through the Holy Communion. These wonderful Sacraments give us the freedom and joy of salvation in Christ, but they also carry the promise that we who confess the name of Jesus will be called upon to suffer ourselves as a testimony to our faith in the One who suffered and died for us. It is sometimes in the suffering and persecution we patiently endure that we are the greatest servant of those who do not believe in Christ. Next Week s Readings Palm Sunday Zechariah 9:9-12; Psalm 118; Philippians 2:5-11; Mark 15:1-47

9 AS WE GATHER In order for us to get the full impact of the Gospel Lesson for this Sunday, we need to pay special attention to what Jesus says before the confrontation with the disciples "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise." The disciples didn t seem to be listening. So it behooves us to check if we are listening.
