2 Welcome to God s house today!!! A special welcome to visitors and guests; we are pleased that you have joined us today! If you have no church family and if we can be of any help to you please call the pastor or speak with him after the service. We invite all guests to sign the Guest Register or the visitor s card in the pew. We pray that as we continue to celebrate Christ s resurrection, through God s Word and all of worship, you will feel God s love for you and be empowered to live as God s child this week. Today s Focus Our texts today speak of the heart of the matter from God s perspective. The Old Testament lesson is God s giving of the Ten Commandments. Paul's message is at the heart of the Christian faith as he proclaims faith in Jesus Christ crucified and risen as God's sole means of redeeming all creation. The Gospel lesson is in keeping with John's view that Jesus' coming into the world created the moment when all must decide between following the light which Jesus represents or the darkness which separates humanity from God. Is there something you d like us to pray for today? There are yellow Prayer Request cards at the Usher counter. Please hand your request to an usher before the service or hand it to them during the offering. They will give them to the pastor to include in the prayers for today. The Lord s Supper is celebrated on the 1st & 3rd Sundays /month. We joyfully share our conviction that this is The Lord's Table. We receive the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, together with the bread and wine in a manner our human reason cannot understand. (Real Presence) By communing together with our Lord and one another: - we express a common faith that Jesus is Son of God and Son of Man - that Jesus is our Savior and only way for salvation; - That Jesus offers us His Body and Blood in a mysterious yet real way - that Christ's sacrificial death assures us of the forgiveness of our sins; - and that God is strengthening us in this Sacrament to live a more godly life and to amend with the help of the Holy Spirit, those areas not in conformity with God s will. - We declare these statements because it is our concern for people to not be hypocritical between their faith and practice. Those who share these convictions are welcome to come and celebrate the blessings of God's Table at the Altar. Persons unable to approach the Altar may be communed in the pew, please notify the Pastor or Elder if you wish this service. The white wine in the center is denatured (alcohol removed) wine. MIDWEEK 4 March 11 th at 6:30 pm continues our journey down the road to understand the Lenten Lies, we will consider some of those lies as we also consider the answers of Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. 3 AS WE GATHER God says, "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments"(exodus 20:5-6). God Himself establishes His covenant in the context of His commandments; then God turns around and fulfills them through the mission and crucifixion of Christ. This is the incomprehensible grace bestowed on generations of Jews and Gentiles who confess Christ as Lord and Savior. SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY Today we begin a 4 Sunday study called. Build Your Kingdom Here. The first lesson confirms that the quote All for one and one for all! Is as true for Christians as it was for the musketeers. WED MORNING BIBLE CLASS at 10 am noon. We will be continuing our study of Genesis chapter 15. A NEW WEDNESDAY STUDY A new study on the Epistles of John will be coming soon. This is an excellent time to see if you are true to the Doctrinal, Social and Moral tests. 5 CONSTANT SEEKERS 16:11 Our next time of prayer will be Monday, March 16th at 6:30 pm in the Koinonia Room. If you cannot join us, please be a part of the group by praying individually at home. LUTHERANS FOR LIFE Christians do not permit the lifestyle modeled by the world to limit their compassion, but rather they imitate Christ, who willingly gave of Himself to serve others. Please bring your own rubber gloves, rags and buckets; we ll purchase the cleaning supplies. We ll keep a coffee pot on. Let s make it a party!! WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!! There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. STEWARDSHIP John 2:16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a house of trade." The Lord s House is not a place to sell, but a place to receive and a place to give. It s not a place for our schemes and plans for the Lord s gracious giving and our faithful sacrifices in response. 7 SALVATION ARMY FOOD SHELF Remember the needy when you are shopping! Food as well as household supplies are needed at the Salvation Army. Thanks! Today s Scripture Readings Exodus 20:1-17: The Lord gives the Ten Commandments to teach us what is good and right in the eyes of God and to show us our sin and how much we need our Savior Jesus Christ, who has fulfilled the Law s demands for us. 1 Corinthians 1:18-31: The center of the Church s life is the preaching of the cross of Christ for the world s salvation, a message which unbelieving self-righteous man considers to be foolish, but which the Christian knows is the power of God for salvation. John 2:13-25: Jesus cleansed the temple because the era of Old Testament sacrifices had come to an end and because the faith by which so many offered those sacrifices was not a faith in God s undeserved mercy. Far too many worshippers performed the Old Testament sacrifices out of a faith that believed that their acts of worship merited God s salvation. God s Divine Service in the Old Testament was to be performed out of faith in God s grace in the coming Savior who was the source of salvation in the Old Testament Divine Service. The works righteous Jews objected to Jesus teaching on the grace of God and they challenged His authority to teach this way and to do the things that He did that proclaimed this grace. By what authority do you do these things? they asked. Jesus answer is important: Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. The Temple of which He spoke was the Temple of His own body. In other words, the authority by which He preached the salvation of God by grace and not by works, is the authority of His own death and resurrection. Jesus death and resurrection for sin destroys any notion that a sinner can save himself by his own works. Next Week s Readings Lent 4 Numbers 21:4-9; Psalm 107; Ephesians 2:1-10; John 3:
