Our school can redeem the Boxtops for cash. Please give your unexpired Boxtops to Tracy Jamison. Thank you! Ash Wednesday Soup Supper A soup supper will be served before our Ash Wednesday worship on February 10. The meal will begin at 6:00 pm. If you would like to contribute soup or other items, there is a sign up sheet on the ushers table. Easter Flowers The Ladies Aid will be purchasing Easter lilies, tulips and mums for the altar. If anyone is interested in helping to purchase these flowers a freewill donation will be accepted. Please make checks out to Elfi Lee and give to her, or put it in her church mailbox by March Flower Chart is in the office on the door by the mailboxes. If you would like to celebrate a special time in your life by beautifying our church altar with a gift of flowers, please sign by the week of your choice. In the foyer, we have some children s busy bags hanging from hooks that you are most welcome use in church. If your child becomes restless during the service and you feel you both could just use a little break, you re welcome use our nursery. Ask an usher to lead you to the nursery. If you need a private place to feed your baby, there is a chair downstairs in the women s restroom along with a changing table. Most of us have or have had young children, so you re with caring people who understand what it s like to have little ones. SOLO ANTHEM (Eva Van Egmond) This Is My Beloved Son SERMON CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. FAREWELL TO ALLELUIA M: Brothers and sisters in Christ, when we next gather for worship, it will be Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. On that day we will begin our solemn journey to the Savior s cross. While the joy of faith remains undiminished throughout the year, our rejoicing during Lent is muted and quiet. For centuries, therefore, the Christian churches have omitted their most jubilant songs during this season, including the word alleluia, which means, praise the Lord. Now for a time we say farewell to alleluia. We do this to prepare ourselves for the quieter days of Lent. The alleluias will return on Easter dawn as we gather to shout our praise to the risen Lord. Alleluia, Song of Triumph Alleluia, song of triumph, sound of joy that cannot die; Alleluia is the anthem ever dear to choirs on high; Saints adorned in robes of glory join the great angelic cry. Alleluia we are singing, voicing hymns in pure accord, With Christ s holy Church united, justified, redeemed, restored, And with all his faithful people raise our songs to praise the Lord. 6 11

8 the virgin Mary. As our substitute, he fulfilled all of your laws in our place and died the death we deserve because of our sin. Blessed are you, O God our Savior, for you have gathered us here to remember Jesus sacrifice on our behalf. In this meal you give us his true body and blood, which paid our debt to you and assures us of your forgiveness. For all of your undeserved love toward us, we give thanks and praise to your living and life-giving name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
