1 Service of Worship Second Sunday of Easter April 23, 2017 Eleven o clock in the morning Bridging Faith and Learning Jesus appears to Thomas, by the Jesus MAFA Community, Cameroon In today s Gospel passage, the risen Jesus appears to his disciples and later shows Thomas his scars so that he might also believe. The apostle John writes this so that we may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing we may have life in his name. King David rejoices in song that those who love God can rest secure, even in death, while the apostle Peter declares that those whose faith in Jesus survives the trials of this life will receive a glorious inheritance.

Today s Guest Preacher Today we are pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Taylor as a Sterly and Pelham Wilder, Jr., Distinguished Guest Preacher. Dr. Brown Taylor is a New York Times best-selling author, professor, and Episcopal priest. In 2014, TIME magazine placed her in its annual TIME 100 list of most influential people in the world. Her first memoir, Leaving Church, won a 2006 Author of the Year award from the Georgia Writers Association. Her last book, Learning to Walk in the Dark, was featured in TIME magazine. She is a graduate of Emory University (B.A., 1973) and Yale Divinity School (M.Div., 1976). She has served on the faculty of Piedmont College since 1998 as the Butman Professor of Religion & Philosophy and has been a guest lecturer at Emory, Duke, Princeton, and Yale. Valarie Kaur Talk Valarie Kaur is a civil rights lawyer, award-winning filmmaker, and Sikh interfaith leader.
