1 Service of Worship Palm Sunday April 9, 2017 Eleven o clock in the morning Bridging Faith and Learning Entry into Jerusalem, ca Our service begins with a procession of the palms to recall the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, fulfilling an ancient prophecy of the coming Messiah. The palms we wave reflect the fragility of the celebration since a mere five days later, the crowd s adulation turns to hatred. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul declares Christ s humble obedience on the way to the cross, as we are invited to walk with Jesus this Holy Week.

2 The congregation is invited to reflect silently during the prelude as a time of prayer and meditation. The Chapel welcomes families with children. Today s Offering All of today s cash offerings and undesignated checks will be used to support the Chapel s Mission of the Month: Partners for Youth Opportunity. PYO is a multi-year program that provides academic support, economic stability programming, community-based mentoring, and community engagement opportunities to 100 Durham youth who receive free or reduced lunch, are first generation immigrants, or have a family member who is or has been incarcerated. PYO works with students from their 8th grade year through their second year in college. The program model is based on having extended, trusting relationships with students and their families, and providing them with targeted, impactful program services. By leveling the playing field for low-income youth despite individual and environmental risk factors, PTO is helping them to achieve their educational and vocational potential. St. John Passion The Bach Cantatas series concludes with a free performance of the St. John Passion, 3 p.m. on Holy Saturday, April 15. Parking is available for $5 on a first-come basis in the Bryan Center Parking Garage. Vehicles with an ADA pass may park in the Bryan Center Parking Lot. 7 The Congregation at Duke University Chapel The following Congregation opportunities are open to all. Christian Education Classes Resume There will be no classes on Easter morning, April 16. Classes for all will resume April 23 at 9:45 a.m. and will conclude in time for worship. Families Moving Forward Volunteers are needed to assist in providing dinner and childcare on Monday, April 24, and Tuesday, April 25, from 5:00 7:30 p.m. Families Moving Forward is a shelter for homeless families.
