The first is the call issued by the Lord to the prophet Amos, the shepherd and a dresser of sycamores (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out two by two (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God destined us for adoption (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and places of work. Let us be inspired today to say yes to the call we hear once again through God s living word. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. 4 PRAYER FEAST DAY OF BLESSED SOLANUS CASEY Father Solanus Casey ( ), whom Pope Francis declared blessed last year, will be remembered on the first ever celebration of his feast day on July 30, This longtime Capuchin Detroit friar is only the second American-born man to be honored with such a distinction. 5 FELLOWSHIP OLA MOVIE NIGHT Woodlawn on July 21 at 6pm in the Lower Hall Our OLA Sports Club will be sponsoring our next movie night. This movie drew strong reviews when it hit theaters earlier this year. The movie is a courageous, true story about the rise of black football superstar, Tony Nathan. The love and unity of his team ultimately wins the hearts in a newly desegregated South. It s a beautiful, inspiring movie especially for our junior high and high schoolers. Join us for the movie, pizza and popcorn after the 5pm Mass. FUN FAIRE 2018 Angels in Paradise September 7 & 8 Our Angels in Paradise Fun Faire Silent Auction Team is busy getting ready for the big weekend. The Fun Faire is our biggest fundraiser to help enhance our children s learning and enjoyment at OLA. We need your help to make this event a huge success! The Brothers, through their representative, Brother Henry Gaither, SC, are asking for your prayers and financial support. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are religious educators who staff schools and other establishments in over 30 countries. Your contributions will especially benefit young men who are preparing to enter religious life and needy students in the African countries of Kenya, Lesotho, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
