Michael OLA School collecting coats and jackets for SVdP Our Lady of Angels CAPUCHIN Franciscan A VISIBLE GOD We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult public life at his baptism by John. Today s Gospel reading tells us of his first sign, providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. 4 PRAYER WALK FOR LIFE - ROSARY WALK Saturday, January 26, :30 am: Mass with Archbishop Cordileone at St. Mary s Cathedral 12:30 1:30 pm: Rally at Civic Center Plaza The Vatican has declared an opportunity to obtain a plenary indulgence for those participating in the sacred celebrations related to the Walk for Life. Pope Francis has also given a Papal Blessing, which will be imparted by Archbishop Cordileone at the Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral before the Rally and Walk. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK OLA School will be kicking off Catholic Schools Week on January 27th with a Mass at 10am followed by an Open House, Science Fair, and Art Fair from 11am-1pm. We look forward to seeing our current school families, perspective families, alumni, and parishioners at this event. It s a great way to witness the amazing work of our school students, faculty and staff. HEALING MASS FOR WORLD DAY OF THE SICK Saturday, February 2 at 11am St. Mary s Cathedral (1111 Gough St., San Francisco) The Mass will include anointing of the sick, blessing of the caregivers hands, and a blessing with Lourdes water for all. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS Saturday, February 9 at 10 am St. Mary s Cathedral, San Francisco All couples celebrating 5 year anniversaries (5, 10, 25, etc.) and all couples celebrating more than 40 years are invited to attend. Michael will be discussing the book, Francis: The Journey and The Dream which was given out at Christmas. He will explore some of the themes in the book and how we can enrichen our own lives by walking the path of St. Francis. Information will be published as is if OLA is not notified. OLA KINDERGARTEN APPLICATIONS OLA is currently accepting applications for Kindergarten for the school year. Applications can be found on the school website (ola.community) or can be picked up in the school office. Applications are due by Thursday, January 31, 2019.

Please register at CAFÉ OLA January 27 All of our parish and school families are welcome to join us for our monthly Cafe OLA + Community Service to honor Human Life and Dignity. In addition to participating in Saturday's Walk for Life, we will be hosting an OLA Rosary for Life from 9:30-10am (betw een the 8:30 am and 10:00 am Masses), and our monthly Fill-a-Crib event from 11:00 am to noon (following the 10:00 am Mass) to collect Diapers + Depends, knot over 40 blankets for underserved moms-to-be and our elderly, and enjoy cookies from around the world. Students can check out school websites to sign up for Community Service Hours. Many thanks in advance for your generous donation of diapers and Depends during the month of January). Collection bins are set up around OLA campus or bring them to the event! PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE Thursday, January 24 from 6 7pm All families interested in learning more about our preschool or are interested in applying for our school year are welcome to attend. PRESCHOOL FAMILY FUNDRAISING EVENT Wednesday, January 23 All parishioners are invited to participate in the Preschool s upcoming fundraiser. Maverick Jack s restaurant at the corner of Broadway and California has offered to donate 10% of the proceeds they receive from anyone mentioning OLA Preschool! We encourage you to get the word out to friends and family about this event. Thank you! CATHOLIC IDENTITY POSITIONS Our Lady of Angels is actively looking for a dynamic full-time Catholic Identity Parish Director and part-time Catholic Identity Tri- School Liaison to continue the Franciscan movement begun by St. Francis of Assisi 800 years ago to help a new generation of families reclaim our Catholic faith from strong cultural forces to keep family life centered around God. MINORITY COLLECTING COATS FOR SVdP OLA students are currently collecting gently used coats and jackets for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. We will be collecting items now through January 27th.
