In one California city, it is illegal to have two indoor bathtubs in one house. Clean water, a precious commodity when the law was written, is now readily available, so the law seems silly. But the human value of protecting and preserving precious resources is still around, evident in many conservation laws that seem sensible to us. So it is with the laws of religious tradition. What Jesus scorns today is others attitude toward ritual laws, an attitude that becomes nearly idolatrous when laws are observed for their own sake. Jesus teaches that observation of external ritual laws is of value only when they are emblems of our internal disposition toward the will of God. Our whole lives must follow the one ultimate law of God: to love God completely and to love neighbor entirely. Roman Catholicism is a tradition rich with customs, traditions, and even laws. As we continue to listen to the voice of Christ, we must always look into our own hearts and underneath our ritual practices to make sure that love of God and love of neighbor are what we prize above all. 5 FRATERNITY FUN FAIRE 2018 Angels in Paradise Friday, September 7 from 6pm 10pm Saturday, September 8 from 2pm 10pm The Fun Faire is this coming weekend! It is our biggest fundraiser to help enhance our children s learning and enjoyment at OLA. OLA MOVIE NIGHT Saturday, September 15 after 5pm Mass in the Lower Hall Join us in viewing a film that helps kick off our Capuchin Franciscan Way initiative at OLA! Solanus Casey explores the heroic life of Father Solanus Casey who was relegated to doing more than being a simple doorman in his monastery. God would transform the role his superiors assigned to him, giving him a far greater significance to be continued even beyond his earthly life, that of a prophet, healer, and intercessor. CHILDREN S CHOIR All students, from any school, in grades 1st through 6th are invited to join the OLA Children s Choir. This choir will sing at the 10am Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month beginning September 23rd. Rehearsals are every Tuesday and Wednesday (they may attend both if desired) from 3pm to 3:40pm in the church. Rehearsals will begin on September 11th and 12th. Cub Scouts is currently for boys in 1st - 5th grade. Boy Scouts is 6th grade until the boy's 18th birthday. The first Boy Scouts meeting is scheduled for September 12th at 7pm in the Lower Hall. The first Cub Scouts meeting is September 17th at 6:30pm in the Upper Hall. We welcome you and your family to join the fun!
