Mel Gibson s war drama Hacksaw Ridge (15) tells the story of pacifist Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield) during the Battle of Okinawa. A tribute to faith, valour and the courage of living out one s convictions in the most horrific of war circumstances, as a combat medic, and for which he was awarded the USA s highest and most prestigious award The Medal of Honour. Tuesday 14 th November: 7pm at Methley Methodist Church - METHLEY MOVIES A Good Year - Failed London banker Max Skinner (Russell Crowe) inherits his uncle's (Albert Finney) vineyard in Provence, where he spent many childhood holidays. Upon his arrival, he meets a woman from California who tells Max she is his long-lost cousin and that the property is hers. He discovers a new laid-back lifestyle as he tries to renovate the estate to be sold. All very welcome. Thursday 16 th November: from 6.45 pm at Parkside Methodist Church, Leeds Road, Outwood - Film Night. Refreshments are available from 6.45 pm.- Film commences 7.15 pm. This month's film is 'The Zookeeper's wife', a true story of how husband and wife, Jan and Antonio Zabinski, rescued hundreds of Jews by hiding them in Warsaw Zoo during WW2. Admission free. Everyone welcome. Friday 17 th November: 10am noon at Rothwell Methodist Church - Charity Coffee Morning with raffle and stalls in aid of Children in Need. Friday 17th November: 7pm for 7.30pm start at Trinity Methodist Church, Netherton - Film Club showing Hidden Figures (PG) the story of three brilliant African-American women at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Saturday 18 th November: 7.30pm at Horbury Methodist Church Exceptional Multi-instrumentalist, Simeon Wood - The Wonderful Tour. Tickets 10, refreshments included (children under 12 free) from John or Anne All proceeds to go to the development fund. Saturday 18th November: 3.00pm at Normanton Methodist Church - Christmas Bazaar. Various stalls, light refreshments available. Saturday 18 th November: am at Parkside Methodist Church, Leeds Road, Outwood there is a Community Coffee day in aid of WAKEFIELD HOSPICE. Coffee/tea 1.00 with free refill. Toasted teacakes 50p. Variety of stalls; home baking, books, bric-a-brac and a display of old photographs of local people and areas. Why not come along and look at them? You may see someone you know! Different every month. Everyone welcome. Saturday 18 th November: 10 am till 1 pm at Walton Methodist Church - Christmas Fair. There will be Cake, Craft and Gift stalls. Sunday 19 th November: 3.30pm at Micklegate Methodist Church - Good News Afternoon, Worship, prayer, a time of sharing concerns & good news, a time of Bible Study, followed by a faith tea. All are welcome. Monday 20 th November: am at Parkside Methodist Church, Leeds Road, Outwood we will be open for Coffee (or tea) and Company. If you live alone, are lonely and would like a chat with someone, why not drop in for a free cuppa with biscuits and a chat. Friday 24 th November: at 7 pm at Walton Methodist Church - Beetle Drive. Everyone welcome. Admission 3 including refreshments. Saturday 25th November: 7pm at Ackworth Methodist Church- a Christmas Concert by Featherstone Male Voice Choir, Tickets: Adults 6, Children under 12-3, Family of 4 (2 Adults and 2 children) Refreshments and Raffle. For tickets please contact: Iris or Kath Saturday 25 th November: 2.30pm at Lofthouse Methodist church - Christmas fayre. Christmas gifts, cards and decorations, tombola and cakes stalls. Buffet tea. There is no pressure to pray out loud. All very welcome Saturday 25th November: 9.00am at Micklegate Methodist Church - Men's Breakfast. Allows men to meet together in a relaxed atmosphere to share breakfast & fellowship. Cereals, porridge, bacon butties & toast, washed down with tea/coffee -- all for just 2 followed by extra fellowship around the sink. All are welcome. To 4.45 pm at The King s Way, Ossett - Advent Preparation Afternoon A variety of simple crafts for all ages to make and take home. Refreshment will be on sale. At 5.00 pm. Saturday 25th November: 10am 4pm at Trinity Methodist Church, Netherton - Fair Trade ADVENT FAIR: Come and buy artisan goods, food, teas, coffee, paper goods, charity Christmas cards, decorations and much more. Chapel Cafe is open all day. All profits are used for development work amongst some of the poorest communities in the world. Fair trade goods from Traidcraft and other fair-trade organisations. Saturday 25th November: commencing 2:00p.m at Trinity Methodist Church, South Elmsall - Christmas Fair. Admission 1.50 includes refreshment and free draw. Thursday 30 th November: 7.30pm at Central Methodist Church, Pontefract - Circuit Evangelism meeting. Children, Youth and Families. Come and join us for bowling and meet other church children your age (eight years old and over): Xscape, Castleford Friday 24 th November 6.30pm 8pm. 10 for two games & burger. "Primitive Methodism in East Yorkshire" is the title of a lecture to be given by Dr Priscilla Truss of Leeds University at a meeting of the Wesley Historical Society (Yorkshire) at Horbury Methodist Church on the afternoon of Saturday, February 17th, Circuit members will be welcome to attend and take the opportunity to inspect the new Church and re-furbished Hall. The third annual Joined Up Conference for youth, schools, children s and families workers will take place on Saturday, 10th March 2018, 09.30am-3.45pm at St Thomas Church, Philadelphia, (Gilpin Street, Sheffield, S6 3BL). Another generation is looking for answers a rich young career woman, an angry gang leader, religious fanatics, activists, crooked bankers, a surprising refugee and the bloke who bought some seriously expensive jewellery. Despite their differences and social divisions, these characters want to meet one extraordinary person. Jesus has arrived on their street on the lookout for trouble looking to do something about it. Four young evangelists two women, two men piece together the startling story of what happened, just now, on that street. It s a wild ride through issues of life, death and miraculous street food. Gospel Street' is a powerful mix of theatre, music, comedy and spoken word a collaboration between award-winning writers, including hip-hop artist Testament. Riding Lights is doing what it does best: bringing everyone together to hear some good news with wisdom, laughter, energy and insight.
